I think there are other threads about this, but I enjoyed the game immensely.
I mean come on, it's Doom. I think people expected Deux Ex or something out of it, a really intelligent thriller sci-fi thing, but come on! It's Doom! I wanted zombies, hell spawn, machine guns, chainsaws, and loads and loads of excellent level design. And that's what I got. I loved it. One of the funnest first person shooters out there. I think back to the original, and how it made me feel when I was playing it, and I have a similar feeling with Doom 3. Mission Accomplished.

It was pretty and amazing and scary and interesting and maybe the best 3 hours of gaming you will experience; then you will get bored with it.
That was sort of the basic problem as near as I can tell. Once you had seen most of the pretty things the game had to offer and learned the basic formula of enter room -> bad guys appear/come out of walls -> repeat, there wasn't much there. It is very well done in every other aspect though. It's probably worth picking up once the price comes down, or you probably would do fine to wait and see what other games come out using the engine. shrug. |

Yes, it is very pretty. However, I can't bring myself to complete it. As others have said, it starts feeling like a chore after a while.

Yeah I have put it down for the time being, just seemed very much the same... I was like... ok... so in about 2 min, something is going to pop up just as I turn the corner after grabbing important item which I will call variable t. Oh there he is, shotgun blast to the head, strafe to the side, another shotgun blast... back up.... one more blast, down he goes... ok now to find the next com disc... there it is, stop and listen... got the access key... ok lets walk around some more. It looks like it has been a while since anything big, so lets see... how bout some spiders, the vents in the ground look a lil messed up around here, ah look there they are...
Beautiful game IMHO though...

I just installed it a couple days ago, and played through the first couple missions, it is very dark I find myself using my flashlight too much. I havn't gotten too deep into the story yet, but I'm not expecting anything life changing from it, just another fps to me. I do find that dissapointing though, the original doom was excellent, why? IT WAS SIMPLE! point, shoot, vent frustration! in my opinion the fps genre has become overcomplicated, I was hoping doom3 would be an exception.
