Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War

I'd like to hear what you guys think of this game.

My friends have been playing it together since it came out and we love it. But, I can see it getting old pretty quick.

The graphics are amazing for an RTS allowing you to zoom in on facial features with stunning detail with a full 3d camera.

I also played 40k the tabletop game, and it mimics the tabletop game amazingly. Rather than harvesting resources like every other RTS game, you control parts of the map and as long as you control them you get a rate of income that allows you to purchase new units and upgrade your current ones.

The only thing that I could say I don't like are the units and races they left out of the game. I would love to see an expansion soon that would include the other units and a few other races and more multiplayer maps.

the only thing i've ever heard on this game was a quick mention on techtv. i did some googling and only found rules for the old board game and the history of it's creators, companies behind it etc. do you possibly have a link to a site that has some screen shots and info on it? from what i remember, it sounds like a very intense rts. i would love to give it a go if i could find out more about it.

I like this game a lot. I never played the original table top version, but my friends that have say that it's a pretty good conversion (as good as can be expected). If you are interested there is a great demo out with the single player tutorial and one of the levels from the single player campaign. It's worth the download just for the intro movie, which is magnificent.

What kind of comp do you need to run this?

I don't play online, so my only beef was the campaign was short. Only 11 missions and you only play the space marines. The end of the campaign leaves the story WIDE open for an expansion or something...let's hope they do one I want to play more!

Bought this after playing the demo, its a cool game, although whether it was worth $50 is debatable. Single player campaign at 11 missions is insanely short, and while the cutscences are ok, it doesnt come close to say, Warcraft 3 or Starcraft in drawing you into the story. Skirmish and Multiplayer modes suffer from a lack of map choices, theres about 20 maps total, and they dont feel that different, add to this theres no campaign editor to speak of as of yet(not sure if they're making one).

The game looks great and plays great, but both single and multiplayer just feel... lacking.

about expansions, relic has a tendency to release free full sized expansions for games available to download, i hope they really do this with this game. I just got the game and I love it. the ultimate units are awesome as all hell.

I really hope this game gets a large multiplayer following because its so damned cool.

I only played the Beta, but god what an incredible fucking game. I tell you its worth $50 just for the multiplayer aspect. I, too, am a WH 40k fan and I am saddened by the lack of variety in the races. They did choose the "Core" races for initial release though. And yes, Relic has a tendency to release free expansions, but I feel like its more likely we'd get an affordable one, say $20 for this game (maybe I'll get my Tau). There is a lot of good work that went into the tweaking of combat for this game. It feels a lot like Unreal Tournament. Its got a Single Player mode, but thats not the focus. This game is about bragging rights. You must play it Multiplayer to get the full effect. And that effect is fucking nuts. The first time you drop a really big unit, The Eldar Avatar or the Chaos Demon, you just have to grin. Way fun. I am only waiting on my favorite opponent to pick up a copy then I have to purchase it as well.

For Starcraft fans, this feels like the sequel that has been sorely lacking all these years.

I play the table top game and play one of the races not out yet. I have heard from friends who have the game and have done research (I admit I have not) that people are already looking to make mods for the game that will allow play of the different races. I also realy like the detail they put into the game. I love zooming in and watching as an Ork gets ripped to pieces by a Dread in all its gorey detail.

I loved the single player campaign and the multiplay is awesome too. I got this from Amazon as a pre order for £19 and it really was worth the money
