Got an X-Box for free...need help fixing
Well my uncle game me his old x-box since it would freeze while loading games. I believe it's a dvd-rom problem since it's a really early xbox. I was looking at drives on ebay...what should I get and whats a good price?

I'm going to tell you what I tell everyone. If you don't mind fucking a store over, just go to the store, buy a new xbox, put your broken xbox in the box, and take back your broken one. With a receipt, you'll get your money back. Easy as pie. If you feel bad about it...I guess you're fuxored. Otherwise, new xbox for you.

Yea I do that all the time with all sorts of shit, but at most large stores they scan the consoles serial number which is no good if you try to return a broken one, as Mr. Deflok said.

You could always buy a brand new one and open it up carefully and replace the drives and reseal it carefully of course. Most people don't know how to open xboxes properly so you may fuck up. Good luck!

Check http://www.xbox-scene.com/ for reviews of DVD-ROM drives for the Xbox, as far as replaceable Xbox drives go, I think the Samsung 616t is the best, you will have to make sure on that though. You can't just put it in the Xbox, there are some modifications that need to be done first.
