WOWC!!!

Who here's playing Beta? Anyone? I'm buying it when it comes out. Awesome game.

Compare to Guild Wars, Everquest 2, Lineage 2, City of Heroes, and any other new MMORPG?

I personally think WOWC kicks the hell out of L2, and I've played both. But not the others.

seretogis 09-26-2004 11:34 PM

"wowc"? What is that?

Bim 09-26-2004 11:47 PM

I belive he means World Of Warcraft. There are already a couple of topics on this already.

Just like in Magic: The Gathering, the "Champions of Kamigawa" block is officially called the ChOKa block, but everyone still calls it the CoK block. :)

Let 'em call it what they want.

XBOX Live cost to play online.....welcome to the new age of online gaming!

NOTHING IS FREE ANYMORE!!!!!

Apokx 10-03-2004 06:27 PM

Someone mentioned this earlier, but N-zone "gave away" 1000 beta accounts.

Weird thing is,the contest isnt on the website anymore, and I'm curious if anyone heard they cancelled it?(or if you won an account that way, please post it~)

pacaveli 10-03-2004 06:57 PM

i dunt own xbox for that reason, blizzard did free online play with battle.net for both starcraft and diablo, and old warcrafts, im thinking the game should cost like 100 bucks and that includes all online fee

Blizzard didn't host the servers for Starcraft and only hosted a very small amount of servers for Diablo 2. None of the Warcraft games require a server hosted by Blizzard. WoW is a bit different...since it's a MMORPG, Blizzard will have at least 25 servers constantly running. On top of that, every single player in WoW that's playing is constantly downloading from the aformentioned servers. It's basically like downloading a file constantly from Blizzard. Imagine 500,000 people downloading files from Blizzard at once. Now think of an Internet bandwidth bill for that. Blizzard's bandwidth bills must be astronomical. They host every server for WoW and allocate unlimited bandwidth for each server. This is why there's a monthly fee. If MMORPG's didn't have a monthly fee, lag would be unbearable in-game and server support would be non-existant. Not to mention Blizzard has to pay their employees for their time spent on the game and keep a 40-hour per week tech support staff paid all year until the game is over. MMORPG's can't work without a monthly fee. :)

The contest is removed from the website because it's over. All 1,000 accounts have been given away. A lot of people on the WoW forums are using their NVIDIA accounts so I know they actually gave 1,000 accounts to people.

i am as much against paying to play a game online as the next person, and I love the Blizzard did the free Battle.net thing with Starcraft, Warcraft, and the Diablos, but when you begin thinking about MMORPGs, I know it is infeasible to think it would have a flat one time fee..

servers are too costly, and the only way to make up for that cost is to charge people/month who are using their resources..

it is just the nature of the beast, so to speak.

Ustwo 10-05-2004 05:27 AM

I got in the beta and never activated....

I just got over playing DAOC a great game they made suck slowly over time, and I really don't want to get my life/time sucked out of me again in another mmpog.

10k 10-06-2004 04:01 PM

Not in the beta, but played the stress test and had assloads of fun for the first time in a long time, in an mmorpg. Already have my copy of the collector's edition pre-ordered, can't wait for retail :)

bltzkriegmcanon 10-06-2004 04:12 PM

I've managed to continue playing through the closed beta. That game is awesome as shit. I love it. It's approximately 100x more enjoyable and 100x less frustrating than EQ. I could definitely see myself playing this game when it comes out on retail. I've probably said this several times over on this very thread, but it's incredibly fun and nowhere near as "grindy" as EQ was. Guess that's because there are so many damn quests that you can get involved in.

I am waiting for some definite words on PvP to come out.

So far it seems to me that they took a lot of "features" from other games, lightened them a bit and threw them into the mix. This could be a winner..but it could also go stale in a week...imo.
