Blah, my store hasn't got it yet. Shipped today.
It looks great. If it doesn't get absolutely crap reviews, I'm picking it up. I hope it revives interest in the spaceflight fighter games of yore.

I have it and ripped through a bunch of the single player(btw, I got it for PC).
I have mixed feelings. The menu screens are pretty ass, but the maps are excellent. The AI is sometimes dumb and sometimes utterly dominant. I can't figure out how to build stuff as the pilot, and controls in general are taking some getting used to. Vehicles are pretty tough to use, but I guess they'll get easier. It's very confusing to switch to up is down when in a ship. The reinforcement thing is a neat idea, but there need to be other win conditions besides "take and hold all the points" and "kill all the enemy" because they end up being the same thing. That Gamespy arcade is the only connection tool for the PC is pretty disappointing. More bulletins as events warrant.

After a few hours of playing it I think its worth checking out. I have yet to play it on live (gamertag: CROSSOVA COM). I like the frantic pace a lot of the boards have. it wouldve been nice to always start with a team of 1 or two people. I have not played a board where I can use a starfighter but when I do ill let you all know.
The factors for claiming victory is cool. I think if they wanted to make it harder there shouldn't be reinforcements...just play with however many people are on the board/level. |

I'll pick it up tomorrow (if they still have any copies for the Xbox in), and I'll play with some of you on Xbox Live.

I heard the AI was one of the worst in..........the history of videogames?
Other than that it seems to be pretty awesome. I'm definitely gonna try it out. I hear the ships and vehicles control like in BF1942, so I'll have no problem picking it right up and playing.

I got it last night and played for about 6 hours. The game is very similar to BF1942, and plays pretty well. Your only real competition is the other players on live, the rest are just cannon fodder.
Single player is cool, but I recommend to play it on the most difficult level. I think it took me 2 hours to beat the game in easy mode. It is really fun gunning down the Storm Troopers and Rebel Alliance. Fun game, but I am a big Star Wars fan so I have to say I am biased.

Gungans? GUNGANS?
-Maybe- the developers could justify their presence with a genocide mode or something...but that's a strike against the game.

I played a quick game of it on the PS2 (blech, what horrible visuals) while I was trying to get a copy of the Xbox version today (Which they sold out of on Tuesday, and didn't receive the other shipment on Wednesday, so I'm getting it on Thursday), and it was great. Playing as a Droideka on Geonosis was awesome, the Heavy Assault droid was awesome too with his wrist mounted repeating laser and rockets.

It's not that bad. I've got it for PC and i think the AI is half-decent...definately not as stupid as in BF1942. This game seems more like an all-out war too, rather than walking around a lot looking for groups of people to kill >:-)

I tried the Xbox demo from the SW DVD's and was very impressed by the scale of the battles, having an AT-ST march beside you, you feel how large the mechanical monster is. I didn't have much fun playing however since I couldn't see any of my enemies.
Will grab the PC version tomorrow see how it goes. |

I played the Demo on the movie trilogy disk as well... it looks kinda like the game, but the controls, weapons, ect are completely different.
Anyway, played if for a while last night, and it's a pretty fun game - but, like someone had mentioned, it pretty much just comes down to killing all of the other side. My favorite battle is probably Hoth, playing as the rebels. There isn't really much that is more satisfying that taking down an AT-AT a la tow rope.

It was slated to ship earlier this week. We have it at Gamestop, dunno about other stores. It was supposed to be released alongside the DVD trilogy and a more platform-y Game Boy Advance game.

What I plan on doing is waiting to see the reply from the gaming community before I buy. "Gasp" some of you may say but let me remind you of the game Bounty Hunter. Yea i bought it for 50 when it came out and would never have paid .02 for the game if i knew it would be that bad. So just cause it says star wars, which I love, does not mean that it will be any good. I may be totally wrong, and if I am then

I've been playing it on the PC and with all the graphic settings cranked, it looks and runs great. I'm impressed with the graphics.
I think that the infantry combat if more fun than Battlefield, but Battlefield wins in the vehical department.

I still find myself frustrated. Single-player is almost pointless, because your AI just runs into the guns of the enemy. I'm on the Bespin mission and you start with 50 less reinforcements than the enemy, so you have to cap all the points to win. The problem is, I get the central point, make sure my guys are holding, and then get in a ship to cap a backdoor point, and suddenly my team starts giving ground and losing points. You have to be everywhere at once. I think I might have to play conservative where I get the central point and then go sniper to get the kill ratio to the point where my guys can be as dumb as they like and still squeak by with a victory. This game needs a patch and badly. It was rushed out for the dvd release and I am disappointed.

Saw a posting somewhere on the internet that talked about the SW DVD's replacing the Xbox dashboard with no conformation. What does it replace it with? Is it just an upgrade or does it replace it with a special SW themed dashboard? Does it only replace the dashboard while the DVD is in the drive?

I'm holding off on this one. Penny Arcade hated it. I noticed on the cover of the game they have a standard-uniform storm trooper running around in a battle on Hoth. WTF did that dude drop out of a starship or something? Sucks to be the guy that forgets his winter gear. Sucks to pay full price for a game that low balls you on the details too. They couldn't create one more damn skin?

I posted this on my Blog about the game... "...Then I picked up SW:Battlefront on PC... this has got to be one of the most boring games I have ever played! At first the graphics seemed impressive, what with the lovely bloom effects but quickly it turns into an uninspired, half-baked, unpolished Battlefield clone. Even being a fan of the films and thinking about how cool it'd be to be a part of some of those spectacular battles, it just doesn't pull me in. However I must commend them for creating a great sense of scale, watching an AT-AT walk past you an infantry unit is quite a sight..." It doesn't feel like Team Based action, even online, it's every man for himself... |

Yep, after playing it a bit more....
It's an alright game, I do not have X-Box Live, so I have only played single player/splitscreen. It is an ok game, but definately a rental - the battles become so agonizingly similar, if you have fought 1, it feels like you have fought them all. However, with X-box Live or for PC, the multiplayer may give it more play value...

Got it. Played it. Beat it. Loved it.
The graphics are right on target for what you need to enjoy the game. There are plenty of really good maps and, despite the AI's shortcomings, it is decently challenging. If you like starwars and games like battlefield 1942, you'll probably like this one. 4/5 stars for excelent representation for the starwars movies and a fun play. |

I'm not a star wars fan at all. but my brother is.. he has every star wars and star trek game made.. I've tried a few of the star wars games and they SUCK. This is better.. I actually played it on splitscreen with him for like 3 hours. It's not great but it's not bad either..I'd say it's worth getting, especially if you like to shoot things. Oh yeah it was on the PS2 console...

Great game. It is very easy to lose track of time when you're playing in huge battles online. This game actually makes you feel as if you're actually in the battle, not just playing as a character in it. There has already been a patch released for the Xbox version (Patch is availible via Xbox Live) that addresses some OptiMatch problems, with another patch in the works to address some performance problems also.
My only complaint is that the ground-based vehicles (AT-AT, AT-ST, AT-TE, AAT, Combat Speeders, etc) are too strong. Not with their attacks, but with their resistance to weapons. They take a long time to destroy, even with several people with rocket launchers firing upon them. The air-based vehicles (X-Wing, Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, TIE Fighter, TIE Bomber, Geonosian Fighter, Cloud Car, etc) are too weak, they are destroyed very easily, especially in air-to-air combat. Overall it is an extremely good game, definitely worth a purchase if you're a big online gamer. If you don't play games online, you might want to skip this one, because the single-player game is basically the online game, but without any challenge (human players).

Question for those of you who have it:
What does it take to play it / install it / run it? I am no software pirate, but I would buy it and hope that my wife and I can both play it at the same time. No need to both be online with others worldwide at the same time, but can we play together on our own network with two computers on one copy? I think it is BS that I would have to spend $100 to do this for this type of game and so I would not buy it then.
