Has anyone noticed something about the last half of 2004?
I sure as hell have, and I'm sure many of you have as well. Bltzkrieg's old thread reminded me of this specifically:
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...hlight=11%2F15 Now, on to the goods... Doom 3 Half-Life 2 Halo 2 Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Gran Turismo 4 Fable Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Burnout 3: Takedown ATV Offroad Fury 3 Star Wars: KOTOR 2 Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within Jak 3 Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Need for Speed Underground 2 Resident Evil 4 GoldenEye 2 Mario Tennis World of Warcraft EverQuest 2 The Sims 2 This is what I speak of. All of these are competitors for Game of the Year. Every single fucking one! It's rare that you get two or three games competing for it...and now this. Most of these are coming out in November, though a few are spread out (GTA: San Andreas, Fable mainly). I honestly can't remember the last half of a year looking this good since the PSX/N64 days. So who wants to loan me $1000? *EDIT* Apparently there is some confusion. All of these games are coming out in the last half of 2004, as the title suggests. These aren't guesses either...all confirmed. -Lasereth

Where did that list come from? I don't think ATV Offroad, Jak 2, or Mario Tennis should be on there. Hell, Mario Tennis is just a touched up N64 port.

In fact, Fremen, only one game on that list doesn't have a pre-existing franchise, and even then, Fable is a Peter Molyneux game. As exciting as the list is, I find it depressing. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any game of the year contenders besides Far Cry that didn't already have a long history or big name running the project.

You guys are acting like being a sequel is bad! Or being a sequel means it's not exciting! Many of the games on the list are sequels, but that doesn't mean it's not HUGE news that they're coming out. The fact that they're sequels means nothing...what matters is what game they are. Metroid, Half-Life, Halo, GTA, GT, Jak, Ratchet and Clank, Splinter Cell, MGS, RE...the list goes on and on! How can ya not be excited about a year that has new editions of the greatest videogames of all time? It's not like sequels to these games suck.

I'll be picking up Fable tomorrow and that should keep me busy till Halo 2 and that one will keep me busy till Kotor 2. The only other game I would like to actually buy would be Paper Mario 2. I've got no time for WoW these days, as much as I want to get into it I can't justify the time needed to play any mmorpg anymore. GTA-SA I will hopefully be getting that one in a trade..I no longer have a ps2 so I can wait on that one I figure. Either way, it's a good time for games!

I don't get what you guys are saying, or why you insist on the attitude that most of the games on the list here don't matter just because they're sequels. ALL of these games are fucking HUGE continuations in franchises that are well-established, and successful, both on a critical and a financial level. The BIG DEAL with what's happening here is that 23 HUMONGOUS franchise games are coming out during the rest of this year! Most of them are, according to every respected gaming site online, coming out in the November timeframe! This is an incredible time for gamers, unlike anything we've seen before. Any true gamer should realize that this is the most exciting time in the entire gaming industry in the past 4-5 years!

Man I have the whole second half of November off just for this. With Halo 2 and WOw and EQ2 coming out there is a month gone for me right there. Not to mention Fable which should be at my house when I get home. Damn I am gonna be a busy man. Well busy in the sense sitting in front of my TV playing a video game.
