Burnout 3. Anyone picking this up?
Burnout 3 will be in stores tomorrow (9/8), and already has received stellar reviews from online and magazine reviewers.
The game is online, and reviewers are saying it is much improved over it's previous versions. Reviews of the game can be read at the following sites:
The game is being released for both XBox and PS2. The reviews above are for the XBox version, but the PS2 version is apparently able to hold its own in terms of feeling of speed and particle effects. If anyone gets this game, or is considering getting this game, feel free to post your comments, reviews, or anything else related, here. Take care. |
After I've heard a few reviewers call it the game of the year so far, I'll most likely pick it up, even with a Gran Turismo 4 release on the horizon. Hell, one of the IGN reviewers said it might be the game of the year period, on top of San Andreas, Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, etc. If a racing game is THAT damn good, then it must be enjoyable. The only reason I'm not considering it is my backload of games I've to play already.

I’m in the same boat as you are in terms of having a back load of games that I need to play. Man, I have skipped out on so many games, some including sequels, that I have wanted to play. Off the top of my head I can remember, NoLF 2 ( I loved 1), Hitman series, Thief series, Silent Hill series, Far cry, DooM 3, and plenty more I would just love to try. Currently Madden is taking up all my videogame time as I have become completely obsessed. When I bought Madden I was about 3/4 way through suffering but than Madden took over and I have not played The Suffering since...shit, I think I even forgot the controls and story (or lack thereof). Oh well.
On topic though, I have only played burnout 1. Although I thought it was nothing extraordinary, it was a decent rental. The only major problem I have with it is the accidents are not realistic. Even though the rave reviews are for supposed physics, I still don’t buy it. How can a car going 200mph head on into another vehicle not get torn to shreds? In burnout, they only have a little fender bender and broken glass. Aside from that though, it is a decent game, just not all its cracked up to be, I can’t speak for 3 though. |
I'm going to pick this up new if I can get enough cash to get it anytime soon
|
Meh. I wasn't really a fan of Burnout or Burnout 2, they were okay for a few minutes, but then they got really boring and repetitive. Sure the crashes looked nice, but so did J.Lo in Gigli.

I am definately going to give this one a try - I simply love the concept of the game - nuthin' but crashes... and with the amazing reviews it has been getting, I need to give it a whirl.
|
My son is begging me to get it. I'm not so big into the racing type games, but I'll play it. With the reviews, and the whole premise, it must be good!
|
Isnt this Burnout produced under a different developer than the first two. Maybe that is why its so good.
|
same developer (criterion?) different distro, Acclaim being the previous and EA being the current.
i absolutely loved burnout 2, great multiplayer with friends. Just picked up 3, setting up Live and will be playing later tonight, ill let everyone know how it is (a buddy of mine already picked it up and is playing presently, said its fun as all get out) |
I've been playing it for almost a week now. One of my favorite racing games without a doubt. All of the negative reviews I've heard were from people who were huge fans of 1 & 2. It seems that their main problem is that it's not much different from those, which isn't a problem for me since I've never played them. But, like I said, it's awesome game.
I think it said I completed 92% of it already. Everything is fairly easy except for the races you go against the clock, especially when you're driving the Formula 1 car. That think is insane with the boost. |
It's hands down worth the money. I bought both Burnout and Burnout 2 but now own neither, however Burnout 3 is a keeper. It also more than makes up for another recent extra craptacular driving game that was third in a series.
|
I was thinking on picking up Burnout 2, but after all these stellar comments, I think 3 might be the way to go.
|
The Screen shots look good but I don't know if its worth the money to go and buy it...or should I just keep playing Underground waiting for Underground 2!
|
I've seen some video captures of the game. Looks friggin sweet! I might have to pick this one up. A store here has it on sale for $34.99. Hard to pass up!

Must be nice in Canada it is probably like 60$ |
This game is seriously worth the money. After having a nice long marathon play, something I haven't done since GT3 first came out, I found there were things I hadn't even bother with. The Road Rage sub-game is so damn fun, it just blows me away.. I constantly find myself flinching at on coming traffic, but cheering out loud when I push someone into a bus or something. I could go on for a while, but my Jack in the Box is waitting, and Burnout 3 can't play itself.
|
I saw the sNappies my friend sent to me
It looks crazy fun! :) But sad. I got some public examination coming up ! :( Bummer, have to wait then. |
I've been playing this game a lot over the past couple of days. It's a great game to play with or without a friend, and I definietly recommend picking it up.

Damn rape :hmm: I checked ebgames and it says 49.99(US) so it should be 59.99 but it might be 69.99..damnit! |
My roommate bought it, and it's insanely fun!
INSANELY FUN |
I don't own any consoles, but my friend has burnout 2 for his ps2, and we all love it. I have already told him about 3 and will play it as soon as he gets out and buys it.
Great game to play with a bunch of friends. |

I just saw on the channel of the devil, G4TechTv, that some Euro countries are considering banning this game as they're afraid young people will go out and try to crash.
|
I love burnout 2's crash game mode. It let my little brothers play a racing game with me and actually have fun doing it. And so far, all I've heard is how this game is so much better than the other ones, I'll just have to pick it up tomorrow and forget about my nasty physics work!

Concert was awesome then I came home and played video games till 4am, now I got to go to work  |
I picked this up today and I haven't put it down for the last 6 hours. I got 34 Takedowns in one race. Yay me!
|
Holy moly carwrecks Church! That's a good number o' takedowns!
|
Ya the most I got was 21..then the XBOX froze:(
|
wow. 38 races completed and only 21% of the game done. :D
|
Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, I'm going to check it out.

Ya I have only done 30....this is going to take a damn year to beat! |
Road rage mode is way too fun. Almost made me late to work today.
Just one more race... almost unlocked a new car! |
We just bought it yesterday. DAMN this game is FUN!!! I love the Road Rage mode a lot too. The first time I tried I wasted 13 people in wipeouts. So freakin fun!!!!
-Lasereth |
Yep. I'm addicted. I played about 25 races today (I raced until I got Golds on all of them). My thumbs are sore and I have a very good sense of satisfaction from wasting people on Road Rage mode. My high-score is 19 now! This game is like watching a high-budget action movie. My friends just sat there and watched as we took turns taking people out in Road Rage mode. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
-Lasereth |
Crap, now that I hear the opinions of people I trust about it I might have to buy the game... I might as well sell the house now.
|
I have now played the game for 9 hours...and I have only played it twice:)
I'm 65% done and well I have finished the Crash section now half done the race section |
Ha ha. I just got done playing for the day. I have ten hours on my file and about 65 gold medals (I don't just go on, I get gold medals on every race before I continue). I can't get enough of the Road Rage mode...I still go back to it to get a good laugh. My roommate actually watched me play with interest for about 5 hours in a row. This game is so awesome that people can WATCH others play for 5 hours and not get bored. :)
PS: My thumbs hurt very bad. And my index finger. :( :) -Lasereth |
Did anyone else have a ridiculous amount of trouble with the Classic Hot Rod race? I think it too me about 28 tried to get the damn thing. grrr!
|
I picked up the XBox version and wasn't really all that impressed, it was sure fun, but only for a little while and then I got incredibly bored.
The game is probably good it's just that PGR2 for me makes every other racing game look like steaming shizzer. Mind you, I felt the same way about the last super-hyped console game, Spiderman 2. I think I'm slowly turning into a Gaming Arsehole. |
I played Burnout 2 and thought it was heaps of fun...just sitting there with my cousin, some things in the game are juts like "whoa thats really coool....wait no! THAT's really cool!..."
|
burnout 3 rules! I had lost interest in most racing games, because they try to be so "realistic" and you end up having to be a perfectionist to get anywhere. finally a game rewards your recklessness, but pushes the difficulty in an entertaining fashion.
|
I've been playing a shitlode alongside Lasereth and BlueMax, and I gotta say this game is incredibly fun. Probably one of the easiest to pick up and play games since SSX Tricky.
|
I dont like how it's like driving a slot car.... You just accelerate and as long as you're not like perpendicular to the wall, you'll be fine O_o
It's still fun though. |
I wouldn't say that, I always have trouble while crashing into the wall at the slightest things.
|
Burnout 3 is cool, though some of the races have me trying over and over again (for a gold medal) for almost two-hours! This has happened about four or five times for me, and I'm just about half-way through the game. It's extreme!
|
*sigh* this game isn't available for PC right?
darn.. gotta get a ps2 or xbox :P |
I noticed yesterday when i was playing it that I was in Road Rage and me and 2 other drivers(comp) where all up against the wall and then boom we all exploded....I was WTF was that...it said I crashed but I hit nothing...that was wierd!
|
Yeah, that happens sometimes.
|
I find the time trials to be the most difficult, primarily because when you are racing other cars, crashes don't result in a loss. In time trial, if you crash, you pretty much have no shot at gold.
So you have to drive both fast and safely, and that can be difficult, but also fun.. Until it gets frustrating. :) |
Quote:
Any mistakes, and you miss the time for gold and have to start over. Only really frustrating thing besides those races is on Eliminator races when you're in first place the first four laps, but then magically you get in one crash and the other guy takes off and you can never catch him again! Grrr |
My roommate beat it with a gold medal in all 175 races in 3 days. He didn't do much else for those three days. :) I'm at probably 60% gold medals...I'll be fully complete soon.

Ya It's kinda like racing that Classic Hot Rod, what a piece of crap. Now I can't get past the Indy Car GP :hmm: |
