Xbox doesn't recognize game discs????
Two days ago my Xbox began to tell me that it couldn't recognize the game disc, but I'd just open the cd drive and then close it and it would work. Now the Xbox won't recognize any of my games and it won't work at all.
Can I fix this, and if so, how?? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a Thompson drive, most of the XBOX's with that drive ended up crapping out. I had a launch XBOX, and by the time Soul Caliur came out it went retarded on me, ended up selling the Thompson XBOX and buying a new one, if you get a new one you should be safe with a Philipps or Samsung drive...

i had the same problem.
i bought a second hand xbox a while back. the dreaded dirty disc error haunted that xbox's existence. i've since bought a new xbox. all new boxes come with good drives now. but siccx is right. the thompson drives were pathetic. if a drive cleaner doesn't work. then (to quote Halx) 'replacement is the word of the day for you'.

Like they said, its probably about time for a new one. Although, to get anything other than a Thompson don't you have to have a mod chip installed, or load drivers for it onto your hard drive, which requires unlocking it? If you don't want to mess with anything like that, you could just order a new Thompson for about 50 bucks. That should last you at least another couple years. Maybe i'm wrong about the drivers or what not, though.
http://www.llamma.com/xbox/parts.htm sells every Xbox part out there. They also sell some new Phillips and Samsung dvd drives. Last edited by todd; 09-05-2004 at 08:33 AM.. |
