Halo 2 Question Thread
Ok.. Played about 3-4 hours of H2 beta.. This is a build from early July so I can't say it is polished (or even finished!) but ask your questions if you wanna know.
DON'T repost anywhere else, I really don't want to get anyone in trouble.

Multiplayer or storyline?
How was the AI? If you could use two pistols in duel wield, how was the accuracy? Thanks...and your secret is safe with us!

I played both Multiplayer and Co-Op. No storyline. Sorry, can't really give any storyline info.
AI was pretty good. In Co-Op my buddy and I were able to pin down the covanent while the other flanked them. So while the AI was good enough to get them to seek cover, they didn't react well to a combined assault. Again, this is an old build beta so may not be fully polished. Dual Wield was pretty good. Not just limited to pistols! I personally didn't use the dual wield much as it wouldn't allow you to chuck grenades during dual wield. Also, you could mix and match guns for dual.

Mr. Deflok.
I guess I should clarify.. I did play co-op storyline but we skipped the storyline aspect (Jumped to like level 5 or so..) I don't really want to give what I know of the story away (that wouldn't be fair). Yeah, there were other Spartans on the map. Didn't last as long as my buddy and I...

What was the general framerate you experienced? I remember the original Halo would often drop framerate in order to maintain IQ, is this the same case for the beta of Halo 2?

Blitz.. I can't really say about the framerate because it wasn't a polished version and we played on a Beta box so debugging and stuff was running in the background. Sorry about that.. However, I don't really recall the framerate dropping very much even when we were inundated.

You say "inundated" do you mean you were overrun with graphical goodness or intoxicated in a more literal sense? I know this question might fall outside the range of the beta you were playing, sense you jumped right over most of the story line, but 1) are the controls just as perfect for H2 as H1? and 2) has anything associated with ilovebees.com's weird shit been going on in the game, as far as you can see, or is that something way further in the game?

Blitz.. I meant inundated by the Covanent.
Graphics aren't really polished at this point so I can't say a whole lot about them. To be honest, I think MS actually decreased the graphical goodness on the Beta so that people wouldn't be posting screen shots and such. Controls were total FPS and if I recall, damn near identical to Halo 1. I haven't played H1 in forever, but I jumped right into this without much learning time at all. (I am a huge FPS gamer) I haven't heard of ilovebees.com, and haven't read any of the posts there.. Let me know what weird shit they mentioned and I can let you know my experiences.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I'm pretty skeptical as to if you've actually played this. For starters, if you had played it then, then you would have had to have signed a confidentiality contract, in which you are violating that right now. Secondly, all of your points could very well be speculation from the E3 videos. And lastly, if you really have a friend that works at M$/Bungie... and you haven't heard of ilovebees, then that just confirms it.
Sorry, I'm going to need a bit more than hearsay and regurgitated E3 videos to believe you.

Well Church.. I hate to disappoint you, but I indeed played the Halo2 Beta this weekend. I didn't have to sign a confidentiality agreement because this wasn't a Bungie sponsored event, I was just at a buddies house that happened to have a copy of Halo2 Beta.
Yes, I guess my points could be speculation from E3 video's. Only problem is, I didn't watch any. I actually have 3 friends that work at Xbox or Bungie, and haven't had one discussion about ilovebees. WOW.. Go figure... Everyone has the right to believe or disbelieve anything I write. However, I have never bullshitted about doing something online that I have never done.. (Ok, except that one story about the 4 sorority girls... ) Ask if you want, or rail on me if you want. Personally I don't care. I know I have played the game and don't have to prove it to church or anyone else.

Hey burner, I'm not sure if you did this, but how is the crouching in H2? In the first game you had to hold down the left trigger vertically to crouch. I wanted H2 to be so that you clicked down once on the left trigger to crouch and Master Chief stayed crouched until you clicked it again. Do you have to hold it down, or can you click it once and then click again to come back up?

Hrmmmm That's a good question about the crouching. That always did really bug me in Halo. As a result I would avoid crouching at all costs. The crouch toggle would be much more effective. Care to mention this in public burner, or perhaps could I have a PM with the answer to this question as well?

Why can't we all know the answer to the questions? I would have liked to know as well.

Either way, you're violating a confidentiality agreement somewhere. If anything, you can get your buddy in trouble. But you seem to not care. Anyways, I've noticed that you have started to respond to everyone in PM's. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by doing that, except making more work for yourself. Why are you not showing everyone what you have to say?

Church: I am replying via PM because you did make me feel concern for my buddies position. Anything posted here could theoretically be searched via google. If I reply via PM it isn't. Besides, why should I share information with naysayers? People I have known and befriended on this board should get knowledge if they request it.
Marz.. I will try and fire a PM off to you soon. As Church mentioned it is time consuming, but somewhat safer.

Ok, well at least you're being careful now. Continue doing so, you haven't seen me asking any questions about the game yet, I have other more reliable sources.

Church.. What is your deal? I am trying to share some info with people that are really interested in the game. First you come in accusing me of lying, then you bring up the confidentiality clause like you work for MS, and then you call me an unreliable source? Seriously my man, chill out. If you believe, ask. If you don't, go away.

I too am very curious about the bots. A very small, one percent of me hopes they are not in there, because I will waste more hours than I can afford to on this game, and my girlfriend will hate me, and I wont go to class!
But, the other 99 percent says, bring on the bots! |

I just find it very unlikely that you have actually played the game, because M$/Bungie wouldn't legally let someone take a copy out of the building. I know this because I too used to have a friend that worked for Bungie when they were developing Halo 1. This game has been under such heavy guard that even beta testers have to test it in the building, with security, in a locked xbox. So there are two explanations for your posts. You are either just trying to act all elite, saying you played Halo 2 and bluffing through your teeth. Or, you were playing a stolen copy of the game. Either way, you shouldn't be talking about it.
I'm not buying what you say. This will be the last time I post in this thread, so you can continue with your "posts" at your will.

Stare.. You have PM turned off, so I can't share until you turn it on. PM me if you turn it on.
Dabossy.. What you want to know bud? I cut and pasted a BOOK for Booker, which I can do for you, but if you only want to know something specific let me know.. And yes.. It is a hater.. I wanted to snap a pic of me standing beside the TV when the title screen came up.. But alas my buddy said that would be going a little too far.

Haha I've played Halo 2 as well now, got a chance thanks to our website (www.nzgamer.com) and the Armageddon Expo we just had (www.pulpexpo.com).
We only played MP but to say it's incredibe is an understatement. We've got a hands on article up and I'll be putting up an article about how the entire event was later. |

Not that I could see, really, all we did was jump into Zanzibar and fuck shit up. We barely left the shore since we were having so much fun blowing up the Warthog and Ghost, not too mention propelling the Ghost into the Warthog then shooting it again so in a cataclysmic explosion both the Ghost and the Warthog fly into the air and throw all it's occupants high into the skies.... oh November, how far away you are...
