I'm getting this right now.
..and I'd like to say that I agree with Serpent. Fileplanet is a great service if you can spare $7 a month. I subscribed mostly for the 1.7 Mbps (although I've gotten up to 3.2), so all these exclusive downloads are just bonuses.

I just don't understand what Fileplanet has that everyone wants to download. I can't remember the last time I thought, "I wish this game-related download was going faster." The only large game files I've ever downloaded are patches, but the few games I'm playing now either haven't been patched in a while or are provided by someone else with a fat pipe like CS on Steam (suck as Steam might, at least it's fast and I'm not paying for the privilege; Fileplanet is not even an option for CS any longer). I've never felt compelled to download a trailer or demo. Even if I didn't already have access to the T:V beta I wouldn't mind waiting another week. In any case, Fileplanet/Gamespy would be one of the last companies to get my money.

It's just a company that offers convienence, fast transfers and other small perks. There's no need to get all worked up. Why would it be the "last" company to get your money?
I like the idea of having nearly any "gaming" file at only one location and not having to search for it or find official sites. But if $7 is going to break you, then I apologize.

I'm not getting worked up over anything, I'm just explaining why I personally would not subscribe, a differing opinion if you will. I'm not sure how else I should go about doing that without appearing worked up. Add some smilies? Don't take it personally. Now, Gamespy certainly wouldn't be the last company to get my money. That honor would go to SCO or Claria. Why don't I like Gamespy, because Fileplanet and the other GameSpy services have sucked since circa 1997 in my humble opinion, yet any time I get within a mile of a Gamespy site they constantly harass me to pay for them, Gamespy Arcade, exclusive "open" betas, etc. Yes, we all realize that $7 is not a lot of money, I just wouldn't pay anything for (warning: hyperbole ahead) nothing.
Anyway, T:V is pretty damn good and far better in beta than T2 was at release. Smaller maps, more intense action, fewer gimmicks and less reliance on vehicles than T2. The T1 base learning curve has been mostly dropped for new players, and anyone who's played a Tribes game before can jump right in and be pretty good. Definitely more offensive-minded than the previous games, but it's yet to be seen how the offense/defense balance will work out in competition. I think you can kind of draw a parallel between the progression of the Quake series and the Tribes series, and T:V is the Quake 3: Arena of Tribes (look, there's even a colon in the name). Most of the old T1 veterans seem to like it, but some T2 players who never really got into T1 are taking offense to it as it's definitely closer to T1 than T2 base. |

I played it over at a friend's place the other night. I literally spent like an hour and a half just fucking around with the grapple hook thing, that was fucking awesome.

I played alot of T1 and loved it, still play a bit time to time. T2 sucked ass, it lost too much of T1, was hell on slower computers, and just loading and registering it was a fucking nightmare (patches for weeks).

Well i must say that this is a fun game. I suck at it, but still fun. Actually i can do pretty well being light armor and going sniper CTF offensive.
It relies heavily on team work, each player fulfilling a different role. the jetpack and skiiing abitities are awesome, although it's a bitch to kill people when they're flying around. If you like the fast gameplay of UT2K4, then check this out. http://www.fileplanet.com/betacenter/tribesvengeance/

I still play T2 quite a bit, but just for fun. I use to be a total T2 freak (and T1), and without sounding a bit egotistical, I was pretty fucking good. Was in a number of clans, with equally skilled members. As for mods, I always looked at ones like Renegades or Warhammer as crap. No offense, Just isnt my style. I prefer non-insane weapons and more skill based killing.

Wow. I got the beta today and played for almost 5 hours. I'm stoked on this one. I played a hell of a lot of Starsiege and after I played Tribes 2 I felt that I was delt the ass end of a mule with that one. Vengeance however is kick ass so far. I like the smaller maps for a seriously fun game of ctf...I'm all about the heavy armor defense...goddamn did I miss that mortar cannon.
