Star Wars: Battlefront
Is anyone else looking forward to this game? This game is looking incredible now. For those who do not know what this game is, it is essentially EA's Battlefield games inside of the Star Wars universe, you don't control any main character of the Star Wars storyline (Some will however appear as non-player characters that you or your enemies can summon to wreak havoc on the battlefield), but you control a footsoldier/droid in the Republic, Imperial, Alliance, or Separatist forces.
You can read up more about the game on the game's just-launched webpage: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swbattlefront/ |
Yeah, that game looks bad ass. I just wish it supported more than 16 players on box though....
|
They say it will support 32 on a LAN, Carn. I'll be getting it for the PC, though -- I just hoping it isn't a steaming pile like about half the SW games LucasArts puts out.
|
I played this at E3 and it's awsome. Never really got excited about any Star Wars games but this one is a blast.
Picture yourself in the ewoks forest trying to knock down some at-st's. Lots of fun :D |
I'm looking forward to this, for the PC of course. I can't wait to play as a stormie!
As a side note, I really don't get how/why they decided to make this a console game first, or even at all. I was under the impression that most battlefield games had huge maps, and that they were more fun with a decent amount of people, i.e. 20 or more, which doesn't seem possible on the Xbotch (or maybe I'm still bitter about the whole Halo fiasco, and therefore have a deep internal hatred towards the xbox, but really, fps are a PC genre, as rpgs and fighting games are console genres). |
Halo fiasco??
|
rpgs.....are console genres????
Are you out of your mind?!?!?! That being said.... I haven't played it and I've only seen a few demos, but the idea of playing on some of the maps based on places in the Star Wars galaxy has got my fanboy blood pumping something fierce. |
Alow me to modify or explain some of my statements:
"RPGs are console games", I meant things like Final Fantasy, the Hack//Sign series and Dragon Warrior... not the games like Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, KotOR, etc. (Those seem to be platform transcending, at least in KotOR's case) The Halo 'fiasco' is what most PC people think of it, at least those who followed the game since it was announced (I still have like the first video ever on a pc gaming magazine disc somewhere), only to have it switched to xbox only, then years later (after initial unveiling of the game) get a crappy port with terrible performance and NO CO-OP mode. Sad sad sad. |

Oh yeah, PC people got fucked.. I was looking forward to it for PC but then I bought an Xbox so that eliminated the problem for me...
I don't even think Halo2 is going to come out for PC at all.... |

Here's a link to some previews:

Here's IGN's look at the different factions you can play as:
Rebel Alliance Separatist Republic Galactic Empire |
The Galactic Empire is so badass.
Stormtroopers are the shit. |
I am somewhat disappointed that all the sides are almost exactly the same, but I guess balance is hard to come by without that. I also think the rebel troops look like ass in those screenshots, but I'm still pumped. Pumped, I say!
|
Well, each side does have distinct "special weapons" that it can call in. Like a Jedi or Sith who'll fuckin' slaughter the playing field or give you some kind of bonus against your opponents. So the sides aren't entirely the same, but I agree, they kind of "run together." But you can't have one side be super-fucking powerful and the other completely suck (despite how it might seem in the movies) because that leads to major balance (not having fun here) issues. It's a necessary evil that the sides tend to look and play similarly.
