My Early Thoughts on Madden 05 (yes I have game)
After the agony of being at work and having the game at home, I finally got to play a little last night. First off, this is a very good game. But with that said, I wasnt blown away by anything. Graphics are better. The stadiums are improved and the atmosphere is better. Player wise, the use of light and shadows is the biggest improvements. To me the game is brighter and more real looking. Its not a big difference, but you will notice little differences as you play.
Gameplay. This is the most important part of the game and the only part to me that really matters. You can add all the flash you want, but the game still has to play worth a darn to be worth anything. This is definately a defensive game. Its not like NCAA which they dumbed down the offense. The DB's are insanely better. If a DB is within 5 yards, he is making the play. Several times I thought my TE was open on a streak and every time the LB made the play. You just have to play smarter, period. If you dont know x's and o's, you will struggle. Reggie was saying how NCAA is all about field position. Well wait till you see madden. Sometimes, you are almost happy to punt, hoping you can step your defense up and get better field position for the next time. Running game is much better than NCAA. Guys hold blocks and you have to find the holes. The defense also needs to call the right plays. You run quarters, you arent stopping the run game. Defensive Playmaker: The biggest question is will you have time to make the changes. From my first games, it shouldnt be a problem. Going back to the x's and o's of the game. You have to be smart when changing your defensive guys. If you make a guy blitz, you can very well leave a guy wide open with no one around him for 15 yards. You need to playmaker with the understanding of what the rest of the defense will do. One problem I see that might come up is dropping everyone back into pass coverage. If you want your D-line to play a zone, they will. I ran it one time just to see and I had no one rushing. I see a lot of guys going this when its 3rd and 10 because you know they arent running so drop everyone into coverage. With 11 guys playing pass coverage, it might be a challenge to find a hole in the defense. Online play: Exactly the same as NCAA as far as menus and set up. Gameplay is smooth as silk and no problems. But there were like 3 people on the server so that is still something to wait on. You cant challenge plays. YOu can use alternate jerseys. Only problem is you cant see what your picking. You can pick alternate #5, but no idea what it is. So youll have to memorize offline and then use that online. Falcons had 13 alternates. And only home can change jerseys. Ill write more later.... Leave questions or comments and Ill do my best to answer them. |
