They killed Mario!!!

is it just me or does Mario Sunshine fucking /suck\? i played it for like... ten minutes. the graphics are neat but the camera is _horrible_, the story/acting is obnoxious and it's.. just... horrible.

i feel molested!

juanvaldes 05-12-2003 09:49 AM

It's HARD.

Ganguro 05-12-2003 11:00 AM

it's just you.
It's a hard game.. i got to the part where you get yoshi, and there is something about Delfino hotel and got stuck. I havent played since january, but i really want to finish the game.

Don't get discouraged because you cant pass an area.. there are buttloads of things to do in that game, because it's a non linear storyline.

g.f.p. 05-12-2003 09:37 PM

New to this site...love console gaming though...

Anyway, my friend who si pretty new to gaming was blown away by Mario Sunshine. Of all the games I have, it was by far his favorite. I think we all had our expectations set a little high for Mario Sunshine. Taken away from that, while not as groundbreaking as other titles, it's still pretty fun.

g.f.p. 05-12-2003 09:39 PM

Oh yeah, and to my knowledge, no game has ever had water as realistic looking as Super Mario Sunshine.

Pyrate 05-13-2003 04:23 AM

Dust off the ol N64 and you will surely resurrect Mario..

The greatest vg chara of all time!

Kadath 05-13-2003 06:57 AM

I don't know, I borrowed it from a friend and played it pretty intensively for about a week, but I started to get frustrated with the game's mechanics and gave it back. It is incredibly deep, though. I think it was one of those games, like Pikmin, that you either love or despise.

Gambit 05-13-2003 07:15 AM

I think Mario Sunshine is one of the best gams on GCN (behind Zelda and Metroid). I never did get to finish it though, as it is HARD AS HELL!! which I liked. It was something I could beat in a week.

Bah! SMB is ass. The combat game is not as good as SSBM, target is okay, but gets old, and the other games suck ass. Ass! SSBM is where it's at. Get as many friends as you like, rotate the winner(s) out, drink up.

g.f.p. 05-13-2003 10:19 PM

Oh yeah, SSMB was all I played for about 4 months. It took me forever to learn to land that Jigglypuff-fall-asleep move, but now I'm unstoppable. I can't wait for the next one.

I thought Pikmin was great, although I didn't like it at first.

I didn't quite get the idea behind Pikmin, but I played it for a few days and enjoyed it enough to keep on playing.

That being said, I can't get into Sunshine. There is no joy. I played the level with the giant electric manta ray for weeks and never beat it.

It's pretty; It's original; and it's way too fricken hard to enjoy playing.

WhoaitsZ 05-14-2003 05:19 PM

and also, bear with me, the control scheme is a bit too fucked up for my lack of hand strength. it's almost imposible to do the L moves while trying to play Mario.

Metroid Prime is much easier, cuz you can handle it a certain way..

anyhow, it does sound like i'm trying to find an excuse, but the disabled bit is really , truly, a burden for this game.

speaking of which, i wish more games had a button configuration. one or two changes would make it soo much simpler for me..

ThatOnePerson 05-17-2003 12:49 PM

I loved Mario Sunshine, it was good fun and challenging. i hear they are making a more traditional(well, more like mario 64) game for the gcube called mario 128... thats what i hear anyways.

Mario 05-18-2003 05:39 AM

I own it and have never played it. It's my wife's and she enjoys it, although she has not beat it yet. It looks okay, but I didn't realize it was that hard of a game.

CyCo PL 05-19-2003 10:28 PM

I think sunshine is a great game... I don't know how you can say that the camera is horrible, you can practically control every aspect of it with the C stick.

FuddMan 05-25-2003 06:26 PM

The camera can take a little getting used to, but its nice being in control of everything once you know what you're doing. As for story and acting...since when have Mario games had a plot?

I don't own GC, I'm loyal to Sony and Sega thank you very much, but you have a point about Mario never having a plot.

In the originals for like Super Nintendo it's just you hit start and you run around hitting boxes for 'shrooms and plants then you step on little walking caramel cubes and go into a castle.

Speaking of the flowers and mushrooms, has anybody else noticed Mario is based around drugs?

IckUber 08-11-2003 02:34 AM

Mario is awesome. Learn to play.

GakFace 08-11-2003 10:52 AM

I wanna play SSBM online.. so I can tear you guys apart :(

IckUber 08-11-2003 04:24 PM

Mario is an amazing game, learn to use a camera, it gives you complete freedome. Try it longer than 10 min.

H12 08-11-2003 04:58 PM

I love Mario Sunshine, but the only complaint I have is that there is practically no reward after you collect everything. It's even worse than Mario 64's reward (although I liked the useless gold sparks that'd follow your triple-jump, and there's nothing wrong with 100 lives or flying around the castle).

mrquackers 08-11-2003 06:23 PM

It was the complaints about the difficulty of Mario Sunshine (among a few other titles) that has prompted Nintendo to announce they're going to make their games easier across the board from this point forward.

Whether this is a good thing or not remains to be seen.

IckUber 08-12-2003 02:31 PM

I think the harder the better.

mrquackers 08-12-2003 05:57 PM

I don't agree IckUber. While I don't want games that are for drooling mouth-breathers, I think making a game exceptionally difficult cuts off the industry to the majority of people. Too many games today ratchet up the difficulty level for no good reason, cutting out casual and mid-level gamers.

H12 08-12-2003 06:28 PM

That's where multiple difficulties can come into play; I've always been a firm believer in those options. Besides, the only thing really hard was getting all the Blue Coins, and that isn't required to beat the game.

I agree. IMO it's one of the saddest things about games today. They are all to easy (for the most part). This is spured by the idea of easier game = faster beaten = proud gamer = done with game = go buy new game.

Or maybe I'm just cynical.

NeverBorn 08-12-2003 07:19 PM

I heard it was decent, but tough

Bootsie 08-12-2003 08:49 PM

I don't like his squirt gun

t3m3st 08-12-2003 09:20 PM

its not an issue of the game being hard
it's just mario 64 with the squirt gun
i feel like i've already played this game

AntHackerX 08-12-2003 09:27 PM

Mario Sunshine was a great game.

The problem that you are having with the camera is a problem of not being able to control it properly. You have to make the camera an extension of yourself. Its different than any other 3-D Platformer in that aspect. Leaves the camera almost 100% in your hands. Sure, may be annoying to some, but it gets fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

:)

CyCo PL 08-13-2003 04:48 AM

Sunshine wasn't really that hard, there's just certain little parts of the game where you have to try over and over to beat them. But guess what? They're all possible, and they're not that hard if you can learn from your mistakes.

What fun is a game if you can just breeze through the whole thing anyway? There have been points where I wanted to throw the controller at the TV, but it was rarely because of camera issues, because I have *complete control* over the camera with the C stick. It was mainly stuff like not jumping quick enough, or late enough, not bouncing off a wall in the correct angle, etc.

hahaha 08-13-2003 02:28 PM

I havent played sunshine, but i know that mario64 was awesome. I dont think nintendo could screw mario up that much.

Agreed, except the camera does cost the occasional death in my case. *shrugs* No biggie, anyways; I feel like the camera's excellent on the most part, but it can't be perfect in every situation of the game. Like I believe I've already said, the hardest part about beating the game is collecting every last Blue Coin there is, and that's pretty much for perfectionalists only. For people who wanna just beat the game, I think its difficulty is excellent, and if anything should be just a touch harder (just make Bowser something more than a really REALLY RREEAALLLLYY easy Final Boss, and I'd not complain about the difficulty anymore, excluding my Blue Coins gripe).
