Playing Video Games on my Monitor... Recommendations?
Hello all,
I'm looking to buy one of those VGA adapters so I can play Gamecube games on my CRT monitor, but I could use some recommendations on which one to get and where to get it from... I haven't had much time to look for some online, but basically I'd like to keep the video quality as close as possible to playing on a TV, maybe even better/crisper/sharper/etc. I don't mind paying a little extra for a better adapter, but hopefully not something too pricey. If it can also be used to watch TV on the monitor, that would be a plus. So please help me out... Thanks in advance! |

I don't think you can get very bad with a converter like that, the trouble I had was finding one. But using an S-Video to VGA will look great (and a S-Video GC cable will only run you about $10).
I'm not sure if any can be used to watch TV on the monitor, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one out there (a TV card for a computer is dirt cheap though).

One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

Ah thanks for the suggestion.... hadn't thought about that..... Yeah, the S-video GC cables are easy to find, but what about those S-video to VGA cables? I'm seeing some on ebay for under $10, but will those work well? I guess I'm a little thrown off by the price....

Thanks destrox... that's one of the adapters i've been seeing online and it's been one of the main adapters i've been considering to get...
So you still use the PS2 AV cords though? Like I see that you can connect the adapter straight into your console, so I was wondering why it wasn't connected that way in your pics. But I'd probly have the same setup as yours anyways; I'd like to use my computer speakers as well... And just making sure, there's a port for the S-video too, right? I tried using my friends adapter with my GC and monitor, and while it played fine and the framerate kept up and all that, the textures were REALLY blurry. That's what I'm trying to avoid in picking an adapter, so how's the video quality of your adapter? Thanks so much, this is very helpful. |

Yeah it has S-Video, and the reason I am not using the Audio portion of the included cords is because it would then need a place for that audio to go out.
On the top part of hte card is where you would normally send the incomming audio outward. BUT, in my case That would have ment two times the amount of wires needed, so i just spliced the ps2 audio directly to my computer speakers. I definitly did it a diff way then normal, but this way all i needed was a 2 way splitter rather more cords then I allready have. Oh by the way, you cant directly connect that to your PS2, no matter what you need to use its AV cables since the port on the PS2 is that small flat rectangle thing, i just skipped a step with its audio is all.
