Most Emotional Videogame Moments
Every now and then a developer/publisher will get together to create a truly emotional experience in a videogame. Now's the time to remember them! Any time you've resulted in a strong emotion while playing a videogame can go here. I'll start:
*SPOILERS*

Chrono Trigger - When Crono dies (before you knew he was coming back); the first time Lucca turns on the screen that shows how Lavos nuked the world.
Final Fantasy 7 - The big one. Aeris dying! Probably the most emotional scene in any videogame.
Metal Gear Solid - When Meryl is being shot by the unknown sniper and Snake not being able to do anything about it. The entire ending sequence of MGS as well, especially when Naomi talks about Foxdie.
Final Fantasy 8 - When the two Gardens face off against each other with the main characters being strewn all over the place throughout the battle.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - At the end when all of the characters from the game come back together, transforming within Alexandra to beat the end boss as one.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - The entire last quarter of the game when everyone is out to kill Tommy. It seems that every person that tries to fuck him over just makes him a bigger badass. The end of the game was really exhilarating.
Feel free to name as many as you want, but tell why you think it was emotionally compelling! -Lasereth |
*********SPOILERS***********
DEFINITELY Aeris dying in FF7. Not so much n individual moment, but all of FFX was emotional from the point on that it's revealed that Tidus is a dream, and the ending, as he disappears and Yuna runs to hold him and instead runs through him is VERY emotional. |
Alys dying in Phantasy Star 4, as well as the ending.
|
The only time i've ever been impacted by a game was when Spoiler: Chrono dies... my jaw dropped!
|
The Death of Aeris in Final Fantasy VII
The Promise to Rinoa by Squall in Final Fantasy VIII The Death of Crono in Chrono Trigger The End of Final Fantasy X Death of Grey Fox (Ninja) in Metal Gear Solid - Not sure why it is, lol. The Slaughter and Destruction of Nibelheim in Final Fantasy VII. It's kinda late so I can't really think of any more right now but if I do I'll be sure to edit them in |
Quote:
Also the end where Naomi narrates about finding something to live for... SPOILER In Mafia when Tommy is finished telling his story and is an old man... just the whole ending sequence... I don't think I've ever been floored by such emotion before (in a game) I was not expecting him to die. I don't what it was about Metroid Prime but the whole game felt very emotional, perhaps it was because of the scanning and finding out about a Lost Civilisation that fell despite trying so hard to retain itself in the face of technology. Once I destroyed Metroid Prime I had the greatest satisfaction a game could ever give me. Damn good idea for a thread Lasereth! EDIT: Damn it, I have to go play Twin Snakes again now! |
Sniper Wolf's speech/cutscene in MGS was excellent...deserved an Academy Award.
But I'd have to say that my most emotional moment was Aeris' death - not because of the fact that it happened, and it wasn't emotional when I saw it - but when a person I knew told me and ruined everything. That emotion, unsurprisingly, was frustration. |
SPOILER
In starcraft when tassadar? crashes that ship into the zerg overmind. |
Every time in Super Mario World, when I would jump of Yoshi to gain an extra jump, or save me from falling to death.Yoshi just fell calmly down to oblivion. I alway felt very bad. :(

/back to TWIN SNAKES |
The entire last hour of MGS2 was a herky-jerk experience for me. The entire simulation thing was a major blow to me and probably anybody who played the game. It could only be compared to the kind of revelation that one experienced by watching The Matrix, it was some major shit.
Max Payne 1 and 2. I dunno, that entire game is a shitstorm, and you really end up feeling sorry for Max. That guy just can't catch a fuckin' break. For once, I'd like to see Max go on a vacation, eat a cheeseburger, and get laid. Is that too much to ask, that Mr. Gravelthroat get fucking laid without some psychotic inner circle mob fucker coming after him? Also, some lozenges wouldn't hurt him either. |
How about in Final Fantasy 4 when Tellah kills himself trying to fight Golbez. It was kinda sad, even if Tellah was a pretty crappy character.
|
its not so much that chrono dies as it is that you are SUPPOSED to lose the battle... seeing that loss for the first time really pissed me off. ;)
|
*sigh* That's what I get for living under a rock for .... a long time ... shouldn't have read the parts about Chrono Trigger.
Anyways, someone else mentioned the ending of Mafia and I just wanted to agree. That game is so much better than GTA it's not even funny - what a wonderfully done story, and the game's practically cinematic. The ending was awesome. |
I'd like to add some more, most brought on by others in this thread:
*SPOILERS* FFX: When Yuna and the gang tell Tidus that the summoners have to die after they've fought Sin due to the Aeon forces. Tidus just went apeshit. Very very emotional. The ending was really sad too. Good one to those that mentioned it! All of Sniper Wolf's scenes (especially her death scene) in MGS. Quote:
I couldn't have said it better myself about Metroid Prime. The more I think about it, the more I think that it's possibly the best game ever made. When I got done with Metroid Prime I didn't feel like playing videogames for a while because I knew I'd never get an experience that rivalled Prime. Learning about the history of Tallon IV and the Ancients while getting powerups and technology from their past to help avenge their deaths was simply amazing. By the end of the game you felt like you were really on Tallon IV trying to save the planet. Keep'em coming! -Lasereth |
man, you all mentioned games that I own, good memories :)
thanks for this thread. :) |
the destruction of the world and ultimate reunification of the heroes in FF3/6

The end of crap Disney video games. That's gotta be an uplifting experience if there ever was one.
|
Jimmy realizing he's lost Carrigan..
|
Two moments in BGII:
When you find out Irenicus stole your soul, and when you are dragged into hell after Irenicus dies for the final battle. |
Final Fantasy Legend II when dad dies the first time
|
KotOR Spoiler: when you find out you are Revan
|
How about in Mario Bros when you find out that Princess has been taken to yet another castle?
|
"How could I forget about that?! I still remember the feeling I had when that happened...I couldn't believe what I was watching!"
and remember that whole little island thing with the hut and that fish thing? |
The two most impacting moments were Sniper Wolf's death scene, and when Aerith died in FF VII
|
When I finished NFS: Underground and realized I'd put so much time into a game for abbsolutely no ending at all.

The ending of FFX, when Yuna runs through Tidus.

Pashaw!,you should all know that the most extreme moment in vidoe game history,is when the dog chases you and knocks you off your bike in Paperboy. :)

...Okay, seriously now, I'm gonna go with Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker's scene where Spoiler: you first get to see Hyrule in the black-n-white vision...then when you pull out the Master Sword, it brings to life all those baddies and all hell breaks loose. |
That fight and all the "Brutal Maze" things where there are 40 goblins or keese around you is like the damn Burly Brawl.

also from ff4 when rydia(sp?) got lost from the ship i was devastated. I did think i would get her back. I was so happy when i did. and when cecil fought his dark knight twin. it was pretty emotional. also the stuff people said about crono trigger and ff6 and ff7. also the end of ff tactics. man i love videogames....*sniff* |

haha, yep. I didn't expect much, but DAMN. Worse than those Silent Hill endings :) Emotion-wise, the Silent Hill games have always kept me real up in the air. You are scared shitless, hoping to beat the game in a record time so you don't have to play it anymore. That's emotion :) SPOILERS Crono dying in Chrono Trigger The ending of Final Fantasy VII - that was some good shit Whenever the "One-Winged Angel" theme busts in during the final boss battle with Sephiroth in FFVII - can't be beat. Just a badass, apocalyptic feeling. Anything with Max Payne, as Blitz said. That guy needs a break. Bad. Mind-fuck: In Jak II, when you find out the kid in the future is actually you.... Medal of Honor (first one, for PSX) - all the levels in that game bring back emotions. Being honest to God frightened of Nazis (being undercover) can get to you. Very nostalgic. Great atmospheres that brought on emotions. MGS - The ending speech by Naomi and the choir theme. Incredible. Agreeing with Blitz again, the "mind-fuck" sequence at the end of MGS2. Fighting all those damn Rays. And fighting along side Snake! Very emotional. You got to fight along side your favorite videogame character. Finally beating the fucking Water Dungeon in Ocarina of Time. I think I walked around school with a smile on my face for a week after that. Gran Turismo (first one) brings back massive memories, especially since I played it to death during that summer. I was too young to get a job (by about one year), so PSX was my friend. I played Gran Turismo to DEATH. Any time I think of Gran Turismo, it brings back a flood of emotions of being poor, walking to Roses out of boredom, and the excitement of getting turbo kits on my Mazda RX-7. Final Fantasy VII as a whole is just one big emotion-fest. Any area in that game makes my brain go crazy. Resident Evil: Code Veronica for Dreamcast. It felt like I was the only person who got to enjoy the game, since no one actually had a Dreamcast but me and Lasereth. The game was so damn long, too. Just felt like it was "my" Resident Evil game. Splinter Cell: Sniping Nikoladz in the damn head. I was PUMPED on that for a long time. And the "lights out" moment a few minutes before that. Very emotional, didn't know if it was the right thing to do or not. Fifth freedom! The first time I played World of Warcraft. Just running around and seeing how massive the world was really got me. The beautiful graphics and environments still "WoW" me now. |
in bubble ghost whenever you pop your bubble and the ghost does a little backflip and like crosses his arms at you. i justed want to bash his little face in.
|
here's one.....
Every time I get away with the enemy's flag in Houston Vehicles or Miami Vehicles in Tribes2. The snipers in that game are just unreal. So much that you'd think they were AimBotting or something. Go for the flag and RUN (no ship waiting) and... damn its intense. |
mine would be when aeries was killed in ff7
and when aribeth love was excecuted in NWN most personal was when my @ died in nethack dungeon lvl 15 :(:( |
The game is UT, CTF in Facing Worlds. It's has been a long brutal game, many lives have been lost, but finally the game is tied and next point wins. I make it into enemy’s base, all my teammates that covered me are now dead, I get the flag and start running back. Most people die before reaching the half way mark, picked off by snipers or hit with a group of rockets, but not me, I’m running and jumping, dodging fire left and right. One or two close calls from a rocket leave my health close to none. The Keg O' Health respawns right in time for me to grab it! Once I make it past half way mark, base is closer then ever, but victory is still far away. My heart starts pounding, while rockets and machine-gun fire are flying past me. By the time I reach the opening to my base, my health begins to drop fast. The enemy is gaining on me, but I must persevere, victory is closer now more then ever. Finally I see our flag around the corner just a few steps from my teams victory. Then what do I see out of the corner of my eye? A rocket, but not any ordinary rocket, this one is from a Redeemer! I make one Final leap to the flag. I watch the rocket as it zooms right past me, smashing into the ground right in front of me. A huge explosion! My base cleared of all life. All is over, I was so close... so close. As I lie there in bloody chucks, watching the enemy grab back his flag and snatching ours, hearing the vicious taunts from them. I think to myself, damn, I love this game.

MGS, the death of Vulcan Raven. When all the birds come to feast on his dead body...That still gives me chills.
Oh, and Aeris too. |
Eternal Darkness, when Alex finally beats Pious for the third time. not very emotional, but it at least killed my curiosity.
|
MGS: Sniper Wolf's Death... I really like the music and the whole noble death thing...
|
Star Control 2, when you show the Yehat the fact that the Shofixti have returned and the Yehat realize they've been fighting an injust war for terrible reasons and decide to rise up against the empire -- awesome.
Fallout 2, when you get back to your village with the G.E.C.K. at last only to be too late. Skies of Arcadia...lots of things. It was almost as well-written as FF7. When you get back to Pirates Island to find your family's been taken, when you rescue them from the arena, the time you have to fight Ramirez and lose, when you're running from Galcian on the train -- awesome game. Anyone who has a GC should check out SoA Legends, if you didn't get it for the DC. Finally Shenmue and Shenmue 2, again, just about everything. When you rescue your gf and ride home on your motorcycle, when the man who killed your father gets away, when all the money you worked for goes missing and you don't know what you're going to do, and when you realize you're up against 60 guys and your friend comes and the two of you have to fight them all together...awesome! Great thread idea. |
SPOILERS~
At the end of Hitman:Silent Asassin, you kill the villain, your best friend dies, and you're forced to leave your home forever, all within twenty seconds of each other. When 47 walks off into the distance with that super-pissed look on his face, realizing that the whole world's rejected him... well I do get a little lump in my throat.. |
when you first see the SJ Sathanas in Freespace 2. Holy god.
Also, the destruction of the (orion class ship which i can't remember the name of) And the loss of the GTVA's last hope: the colossus. christ, Freespace was a kickass series. |
o i have to agree with the ff8 one.... that is a amazing secne gives me chills to this day
|
The final scene of Bungie's Marathon Infinity. The player finds out he's a god. Woot.
|
I'd have to say many of the scenes from Xenogears impacted me emotially.
If you've played the game, you should know what I'm talking about. |
as a young kid finishing Streets of Rage 2.. the ending with the music really made me feel like i accompllished something and i almost teared up. really
|
I agree that Final Fantasy X and the Max Payne stories were just quite sad.
Still playing Mafia so haven't seen the ending yet, but wasn't too surprised when I read the spoiler; the storytelling in Mafia is excellent and the sad, realistic ending fits the bill. |
The river is too deep to ford. You lose:
110 Bullets 1 Wagon wheel 2 Oxen Dummy (Drowned) Lucky (Drowned) |
I have that game. Right here. On my desktop. I'm playing it now. But my oxen pwn =)
|
The 1st time a face hugger got me playing the Marine Campaign in Aliens Vs. Predator. Damn near shat myself.
|
IMO, you get loads more value out of MMORPGs.
I played FF11 for like 5 straight months and I still didn't get halfway through it. I've NEVER played any RPG for that long ever. Even games like Chrono Trigger that had awesome replay value.. I don't think I ever spent more than a month playing it. Singler player RPGs are good if you just want a short game (compared to MMORPGs) that you can enjoy and be done with within a few weeks. MMORPGs almost always have something new. 40 hour quest your first time through.. and each time after that (since you know everything) is shorter. If you have New Game+, then it's 10x as short. |
Baldur's Gate kinda killed that trend. Even on my fourth run through, the fastest I've been able to do it in is around 20 hours =) I just love wandering around doing shit, though.
|
Quote:
also the end of Septerra Core, the end of Warcraft 3 and it's expansion, the end of starcraft. Ill post more if i think of any |
Only time I got emotional playing a game was the 2nd british mission in Call of Duty, when that dramatic music started playing near the end of the German counter-attack. I don't know, it was just THE right time for it.
|
buddyhawks, ever play hte user made campaign for freespace 2 called Derelict? It's as good, if not better than the original. Way fuckin cool.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Sweet game that didn't even HAVE an ending. I felt SO ripped off.
I also have to agree with the FF7 Aeris scene, as well as Crono's death. I also remember back in day when my characters in Final Fastasy 1 (NES) "grew up". I felt like I'd really accomplished something, that I'd somehow evolved with my characters :D |
Quote:
I was totally affected by that. Thats the thing about this game it totally brings you in. |

One more occasion I have to add: The last mission, where you need to pretect a fleet mixed military/civilian ships to the jump node before the GTVA could seal it up. The fight was long and difficult. Every few minutes a new fleet of shivan capital ships would jump in on you. Then 15min into that mission, you are suppose to be 2 clicks away from the jump node (if you havnt read the storyline), then suddenly you superior briefs you on the intercom "This star has just turned supernova, you have 1 minute to get out of there" Suddenly everything ties in, how the ancients where destroyed, and why where you fighting shivans in the gas field. However after realizing all that, you make a run for it. Diverting all power into the engieen and hitting the afterburner. Time was counting down, and you are getting closer than ever. Then right before you could get to the node. Time counts down to 0, the cut sceen sets in. Awesome, awesome stuff. |
FFFVII for sure. Everyone loved her so much. *tear*
|
Max Payne 2, the final line in the game "I had a dream of my wife... it was good."* That... fucking... rocked... It just felt so powerful and deep, incredible stuff.
*quote may not be exact |
yea, man. freespace owned.
i liked all of bosch's stuff too, all his little cut scenes were so interesting. as for the ancients... and i'll mention it again, try and get a hold of the custom made campaing "derelict" absolutely fantastic. also, i really disliked aeris. so i was sort of glad to have her out of the party. Tifa owned her any day of the week. |
Both Final Fantasy games, VII, VIII got me near tears :X
|
All the units have been lost, all that is left is one peon. He got lost somehow gathering wood in the near-by forest, while his whole base was destroyed by a swarm of Chimaeras, and Mountain Giants. All the gold is gone, but plenty of lumber remains. The peon gets a small prayer from a dying shaman lying on the floor. He picks up his pick, and runs towards the enemy’s base. He follows the tracks from the mountain giants, and his pace quickens as the foot prints begin to fade. Run little peon run. Through the vast fields he runs, charging ever so valiantly towards the enemy’s strong hold. There is a small clearing in the forest. The peon can barely make out what is there, the fog is thick. He pushes onwards, now the base is in site, charge little peon CHARGE! Boulders being flung from every direction! He dodges left, and then right, he can see the Hero in front of him. A Mountain Giant steps in the way. The peon runs underneath his legs. He raises his pick in one valiant effort to destroy the hero! Running at the hero as fast as he can, a giant log swings in front of him. Barreling down upon him, connecting with a smash! The heroic peon falls. Mockingly the Demon Hunter stands above him laughing. The peon gives him a small smile and released his grip from his pick, joining the rest of the thousands of peons in the other world. Wondering why the battle is not over, the Demon Hunter realizes there is now a hidden base some where. Damn those Orc. Now the search begins for the hidden base, muhaha, ohh wait... what do you mean I'll be reviled to my opponent?! aww man.
Maybe I exaggerated a little bit :o , but that game can get pretty emotional. |
These are my picks:
-FFVII: Of course, Aeris's death scene. -FFVIII: The whole outer space thing. With Squall having to save Rinoa from perpetual freefall. Especially when they're in eachother's arms floating in space. Intense. -FFIX: At the very end when Zidane comes out from under the cloak and Dagger/Garnet runs to him and pounds on his chest with her fist while crying because she thought he was dead. -FFX: At the end, when Yuna is at the edge of pier whistling with all her might. The poor dear :( -Xenogears: Well, a lot of it is intense. But I'd have to say the anime scenes with Elly, and on the last disk where we go inside of Fei's head. -FFXI: Whenver I die and freaking loose 500+ exp! ARRGG! :) |
The cinematic on Halo when you beat it on Legendary. A marine and an alien standing next to each other as the Halo explodes. The marine looks at the alien and says "Hold me." and they hug.
|
Gimmie a break. Diablo 2, when you return to Tristram. It is very sad cause Griswald is a zombie and everyone but Cain is dead. I know I felt a sinking feeling in my heart. But when you find Wirt dead, you're so happy that little bastard died! That swing of emotion was great.
|
Anything from FFVII, FFVIII,FFIX,and of course FFX. VII&X > everything
|
**Spoiler**
The last cinematic scene in the first Diablo was pretty distrubing for me. The entire hell level was slightly distrubing with bodies everywhere being tortured, then you have this huge battle to beat Diablo himself. When the fight is over and you're victoriously watching the final cinematic, you see your warrior pick up the soul stone where Diablo has been trapped and just as you're coming down from the intense battle, the warrior shoves the stone through his own skull. It completely caught me off gaurd and disturbed me for a few days. I still feel those disturbed emotions when I think about it, that's great game design. |
I've played FFX about 3 or 4 times and the whole damned game is pretty emotional.
But after reading this thread it seems I gotta pick up FF VII and FF VIII. I love RPGs that really bring you in. |
Resident Evil: Directors Cut (PSX)
When you play that chick (Jill I think?) and your in the room with the shotgun on the wall and after you pick it up and are about to leave the ceiling starts coming down on you, becuase picking up the shotgun set off a trap, you think "oh crap im going to die".. then out of no where barry rushes in and saves you. I only picked the chick to play that game becuase she starts with a pistol and the guy (Chris) doesn't :D |

That one time megaman landed on the spikes and exploded... man that made me sad, those megaman games definitely are tearjerkers.

Don't forget when General Leo dies. I tried in every damn way to save him, but in the end Kefka got him every time. :( Also, numerous things from Fallout and Fallout 2. I nearly died laughing when a Rad-Scorpion cricitically missed me and hit itself in the leg, killing it . On the other hand, when I lost dogmeat, it was the opposite - it was depressing, because I couldn't just load [I saved over my earlier save accidently after dogmeat died]. However, my happiness returned when I saw dogmeat in Fallout 2 [hidden location], and I again laughed a lot when I saw the Holy Grail secret scene. Overall, though, I had many emotional responses throughout the duration of the two games. [In conclusion :p] All emotions were present, though mostly at different times. PS I totally agree about the thing with yoshi. Poor guy, getting dumped every time just to save Mario! |
Quote:
I agree 100%. For a RTS game, the story line for Starcraft really grabbed hold of me. And add on top of that the fact that Tassadar was one of the few characters who seemed to be consistantly 'good' throughout the game, showing him piloting the carrier toward the overmind was emotional stuff. Also, in Brood War, DeGaulle's (sp?) ending cinematic was also good stuff. Damn, all this is making me want to reinstall and go back through all the Starcraft missions. Also, someone mentioed Skies of Arcadia. Another 100% agree, tons of good moments in there. My favorite though has to be when you are in the Blue country (can't remember specifics any more) and the battle royale breaks out between the two fleets. I'm sure there were tons more I can't remember now. |
Alot of the WC3 scenes, where the prince gets taken over bye the liche king and kills his friends/family,
and FF7, i played it for two weeks straight when the girl i was madly in love with told me she was a lesbian and would never love me like that. To heck with chicken soup, the soul needs video games. |
^agreed with a vengeance

When Alex takes Dyne's sword in Lunar SSS
|
There was this time when I was being chased by this yellow duck looking thing. And then I grabbed the sword, which was shaped like a ->. Just when I got ready to stab the dragon, the black bat came and stole it from me.
Damn that black bat!! |
Haha, your post reminded me of this (hover over "e-mail" to see). It's pretty humorous.
|
I gotta go with the Max Payne peeps on this one. The story and gameplay compelled me enough to play through both versions 3 times. Max Payne 2 Spoiler: The third time through Max Payne 2, the ending changes and Mona survives getting shot in the back. That made me happy.
And the big KOTOR 1 Spoiler: You're Revan!Made me shudder. |
Aeris.
Also, when my battery died on Zelda 1. ARGH! |
another vote for FF VII - Aerius' death and the very last scene (flashing back to the beginning).
|
Each and every moment in System Shock 2 when Shodan would talk to you. Creepy shit. Also, being low on ammo and knowing that the door you're in front of holds some baddies in check, yet you must go through. That was the first game to ever make me not want to play, yet I kept going. That was an incredibly atmospheric game.
Runner up would be in Resident Evil 2, playing on a 5.1 surround sound system. Having completed most of the police station, thinking it is safe to walk around, and then the licker leaps through the one way mirror in the interrogation room. Holy fuck that scared the crap out of me. The controller flew from my hands and I proceeded to die gruesomely. Also the first time in the game you see a licker. It is crawling on the outside of the window and disappears from view. Great games, those. |

Why do they have to kill Fenix, not once, but TWICE??!?!? And they always seem to kill off any damn Protoss hero that's not an ass. I also loved the intro to SC:BW and the ending to BW with Du Gualle in both scenes. In addition, any Fallout scene really got to me, really beautiful game  |
Metal Gear Solid Three. Five minutes into the final boss fight. You think sniper wolf gives a good death speach? Beat MGS 3. I was damn happy when I won.
|
The first time you play through Earthbound, you really don't have any idea exactly what you're going after. You know that you need to complete the Sound Stone's melody in order to defeat Giygas, but you don't really know how it's going to work or what exactly is going to happen when you finally do play the song in its completion.
The payoff is excellent. Ness enters his own mind and destroys his doubts, his apprehensions, his past failings that nag and persist and slow him down. The entire Magicant sequence was the most thrilling part of the game, I thought, from when you're first trying to figure out where you are to the final climactic sequence in which Ness realizes his own power and you see his HP/PP sliders going berzerk and his stats increasing like crazy. I can't help but admire the fact that APE did all this long before a cinematic game was even technologically possible. All they had were 16-bit sprites and a flimsy synthesizer and they can still get my blood pumping more than Sephiroth's stab or Malak's revelation can. (Darth Malak, that is. I just noticed that he shares a name with a Final Fantasy Tactics character - another excellent game but I can't quite isolate any one moment of it that impacted me as much as the Magicant sequence of Earthbound.) As for Fenix of Starcraft...I think most of us knew that he was going to come back as a Dragoon. That's the Zealot's reward for nobly sacrificing himself in battle. I wasn't so sure he was going to get whacked as a 'goon but the fact that they saved the Zerg campaign for last gave them the freedom to kill off any Terran and Protoss hero characters they wanted to...which they did. |
Silent Hill 2 had a bizarre emotional ending Spoiler: ... when you find out that James killed his wife and she didn't really die from cancer. The whole game he talks about how in love with her he is, how SH was "their spot" and you can tell how it was killing him inside when he mysteriously received a letter from her.. desperately trying to find her through the whole game. Then to find out that he went nuts and suffocated her - wow, that's pretty twisted. I think that really kicks in at the end as the apology letter his wife wrote to him is scrolling on the screen. Depressing fucking ending.
|
phantasy star 4-
the death of alys and the ending (everyone going their seperate ways) oh, and i never really liked aeris, so i was pretty glad when she got sliced. |
The whole Suikoden series (I, II, III and hopefuly IV too, it got out yesterday!) really does it for me. I can't even name a speicifc moment, the storyline is so well done that you really feel the characters, both in sad and exciting moments.
|
Oh, and about
Quote:
|
Half-Life:
--Walk into a room. Hmm, nice and quiet in here. Then you hear the black ops running around. Freaks me right out. --If you get killed by an alien grunt and just sit there for a few seconds, it'll walk up and start eating your corpse. --Damn freaky administrator. Always showing up. Being a freak. --The 3 big... knife heads. in the missile silo. The last 15 minutes or so of Metroid II took me through an emotional rollercoaster. I felt a great sense of accomplishment beating that. The ending to Secret of Mana. Especially significant because I always played as the sprite. Bionic Commando: Take that, ya lousy Hitler knockoff. Someone's already mentioned GTA:VC, that was a great ending. Phantasy Star IV had a lot of great moments. Alys is also my favorate character, like, ever. Shining Force. The ending was pretty good. I don't think I've ever seen a better credits sequence either. Blood: A lot like Max Payne, sort of. You've already lost, but there's something to be said for revenge. Theif: From when you get your eye taken out to the end. Most of the walled city was also damn scary. The opening of Descent 3. They pull you in, cut you out of the drifting ship, and just dump it in the sun. They can't do that! That's my ship damnit! :( Doom II. I forget what episode. The earth is evacuated except for you and all you can do is sit there and wait to die. Then they throw in some more lines of text that totally ruin it. Also, theres not a lot of videogame bosses I find scary, but Cyberdemons are one of them. Wow, that's a lot. Well, I'm a geek. :p |
