Splinter Cell 3, yes that's right, 3

If you followed the E3 coverage on the net you would've heard about this one, Splinter Cell 3 is coming out this Christmas. Holy fucking shit. When I heard this I thought, "Hell, part 2 was brilliant how are they gonna pull off a sequel within a year?" After seeing a couple of brief videos I knew the improvements were massive but I still was a liittle weary... that is until I saw this video:

http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault...k4_kikizo.html

I can now truly understand why SC3 picked up so many "Best of E3" and "Best Graphics of E3" awards. I've been so spoilt with great games this year, it's like being in heaven.

I'm guessing this'll be Sam's final outing on the current generation consoles but I'm not sad about that, it's a trilogy now and fits perfectly... Though I can't wait to see Sam and his Shadows on a game designed around Next Gen Consoles and Hardware (imagine SC designed with 6800 features OMG).

Alongside Solid Snake and Samus Aran Sam Fisher is one of my favourite gaming characters ever, I wish more developers would create such bad ass and cool characters like these.

Holy hell, check out those graphics when Sam is going around the lighthouse at the end. Best. Graphics. Ever.

I have a couple kind of off topic question.

Should I get Splinter Cell for my GC or PC? I have not played any Splinter Cell games and do not know which platform it would be better on. Which would it look better on considering lighting is a key factor in the game? My PC specs are AMD 1800+, 256 ram and a GeForce 3 64 megs. I know that is crap, but Halo, and Unreal 2 worked on all high settings, just so you know. Also, should I play part 1 first before 2 or does it not matter, should I just go straight to 2?

Thanks for your help

My personal opinion -

Get it on the console, and again, just my preferance, but 2 was far better than one. Unless you are crazy about the storylines in these types of games, I'd just start with the second one.

That video was awesome as hell. I haven't big a fan Splinter Cell but after checking that video out, I might have to look into 3.

Thanks,

PC versions usually boast higher quality graphics, unfortunately for Splinter Cell this wasn't the case, it's actually dumbed down. The X-box version is by far the superior followed by the NGC. Personally I thought part 1 was the better game especially due to a stronger storyline but part 2 has moments where you'll drool all over your controller.

Thanks for the info guys.

Is the graphic quality worse than GC on PC even on all high settings??

It doesn't matter how the PC version is with the graphics on high because you'll have to spend a pretty penny to make your PC do that. I'd just get a console version (preferably XBox)...I've heard that the console versions control better than the PC version anyway.

Right you are Las, the controls are WAY better for console than on PC. Doing the whole, scroll up, scroll down thing to change the speed Sam moves blows. I'd much rather control it with analog.

I'm in the minority but I quite liked it, obviously though the pressure sensitivity of the controllers is far more suitable. SC 1 is one of the few games I've ever bought for two platforms... actually, might be the only one... nah, there's probably something else too.

Graphics? Splinter Cell has no graphics! You play it with night vision all the way!

Night vision = black/white/pixels ....

or perhaps I haven't finished?..

Console versions are still to be announced, quite annoying really 'cause I'd rather play it on my X-Box but will still get it for PC anyway.

Hot game. I don't own a Xbox currently, and I've always been an 'Xbox hater' but once Halo2 is released, going off all the raves, I'll need to get me one. And this just adds to the 'must have' list.

It's exactly the same video that was posted just before you. Did you even look? On the other hand, it is faster to download.

This game is going to kick so much ass it’s not even funny. My only concern is how it will perform on my PC. SC 1 and 2 ran flawlessly on all high settings, which was a huge surprise for me considering I have a low end machine. Now I’m concerned because SC 3 is running on a new engine and my PC may not be able to handle it the way it did 1 and 2. Are there any guesses as to minimum requirements yet?

I'm looking forward to it, I'm kinda skeptical about 2 Splinter Cells in 1 year though, seems kinda rushed even though development on Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow were started at the same time. I'm kinda hoping they push the release to the beginning of January. I might be too busy with many other games if it comes out this year.

In response to the thread title, was there ever any doubt? Tom Clancy's game company is great at churning out sequels.

When a game goes to E3 that doesn't mean the game is coming out this year, E3 is a like a Car show, show off your concepts so they will fix stuff maybe make the graphics even better, then it will be released, I'm saying spring 05'

I HATE fps games on console computers. Mouse/Keyboard setup has the absolute best control for FPS's. If you watch someone play SOCOM and a guy play CS you'll see what I mean... movement and accuracy aren't even close.

You can't compare SOCOM (3rd person shooter) and Counter-Strike (1st person shooter). Besides, there is no better option (keyboard/mouse or controller), its a matter of preference.

Like omega2K4 said that your can't compare CS to SOCOM, but if you haven't played Splinter Cell on Console before you can't weather they suck or not!

I played the first Splinter Cell on XBOX I didn't like it so I don't play it, but I don't bash it.
