Nintendo and Xbox? Together?
Hey guys, I was just reading in one of my brother's magazines that Nintendo may help Xbox with the Xbox Next architecture. The question was asked if maybe Nintendo was going to take the Sega route and get out of the console business and stick with making hand helds and software.
I was wondering if you guys may have heard anything..and what you may possibly think about it. I really don't have a dog in this fight, as I own all three consoles. But I think that Xbox+Nintendo would give you a load of great titles. And bring the two companies strengths together. You know, Nintendo's great games (some kid oriented) with Xbox's great architecture (and darker more mature games) I think this would be a great move! Um...I could be alone though...

One rumor I heard was that there was a new plan afoot for the controllers for XBox2. Something along the lines of the NES handhelds, that gave you little screens on your controller. (ie. You can use it in Football games to pick your plays so your competitor can't see).
I just im'd a buddy that works at Xbox to find out. He just turned his system to "away", so if he answers when he get's back I will let you know.

I read something on IGN earlier today about ATi and IBM developing hardware for both companies, and that it had some suggestion that they were related. But I can't find the damn webpage that had it.

Hmm. Sounds like an interesting mess. Xbox and Nintendo collaborating to take on Sony would be a real revolution. Although, the two have conflicting visions of what the gaming future should be. Hell, Iwata of Nintendo accuses Microsoft for trying to push the next gen consoles on to the market too fast, but we'll see what the rumor mill plays out.
EDIT: IGN posted this article earlier today (June 15) about what's going on. http://cube.ign.com/articles/523/523...html?fromint=1

I've always been a huge fan of Nintendo, growing up with it and all. X-Box is my second favorite current system, only behind the Gamecube. I feel like, while the PS2 has its strong points, is generally over-rated (notice that this is strictly my opinion...no hatin').
I'd love to see Nintendo and Microsoft team up on Sony, but not to crush Sony. Instead, I hope they have the fiercest competition between themselves, which would create more great games for us in the future. Then, it'd only be two main systems again instead of three like it is now, which makes it rough for more hardcore gamers like myself to play all the greats. Quote:

They would have to work very hard to convince the Japanese consumers to buy an Xbox-Nintendo console, 'cause from what I've heard, the sales for the Xbox over there are dismal.

Nintendo, afaik, are working by themselves. IBM and ATi are working on the hardware architecture, the Big 3 don't really need to work together. Microsoft was Nintendo's real rival for this current gen, and if Nintendo keep going the way they are now I don't see any reason as to why they won't blow the X-Box 2 out of the water.
And fremen, X-Box sales in Japan are about 500-ish a week =D

Sorry, but nintendo is NOT going the Sega route..
I'll quote my gamer zine... after I find it. I'm having trouble finding it... regardless it was the president of Nintendo stating that the only way they'll stop making consoles and game is if they go bankrupt... which isn't about to happen any time soon. So... something tells me Nintendo is staying Nintendo. ---------------- Hulk I also heard that X-Box just doesn't sell as well in Japan as it does here... sure it probably sells, but not as big as everything else there.

In the week where the GC outsold the PS2, the PS1 outsold the X-Box, 800 to 500 =) The Japanese are notorious for ignoring everything American though.

I read that Microsoft was actually offering to help Sony and Nintendo with game development software, not Nintendo help Microsoft or Nintendo and Microsoft teaming up. The plan is to make game development be easier, so less time is spent on it and more time is spent on a game's creavitiy.

The problem with that is that Nintendo already reputedly has the best dev kit around =)

If that actually happened, a little part of me would die. I think that Nintendo will always be making consoles, because people will always buy them. Nintendo may not be top of the line, but deep down, people associate the name with quality and ingenunity, and will continue to buy their products. Nintendo usually sells at a slower rate, but they will be selling old products long after they come out with new products, as well.
I don't think that will ever, ever happen. They will just shut down completely before that happens, like the quote says.

The GameCube was created soley with games in mind, the X-Box is a PC in a crate =) The developer kit is just what the companies give the people that make games for them. Because most X-Box devs are used to the PC platform, they naturally find it easy to create an X-Box game. Nintendo still give out the best kit and support their developers more.
