Mega man anniversary collection anyone?
Anybody else going to get this? I'm actually looking forward to it. A bit of old-school side-scroller action with TEN games on one disk for thirty bucks. A wee bit of heaven, IMHO.
http://www.capcom.com/xpml/game.xpml?gameid=750068 A little linky to check it out. It may be a bit hard to go and play eight bit graphics again, but like I always say, "It's the game play that makes a game!"

I was almost furious when I clicked it and saw that it was on PS2, since I had understood that it would be on Gamecube. However, much to my pleasure, it's multi-platform.
I'm tellin' ya right now, that bitch is mine. I wish, for a lil' something to make this anniversary extra-special, you could carry powers over from, say, Megaman 4 to Megaman 2 as a bonus once you beat them. Oh well...I've got the roms to all of them, but dammit I need this, heh.

I'm definitely getting it on PS2. The gamecube controller is terrible for sidescroller games, especially megaman. The d-pad is way too small and the analog stick will cause a lot of problems in megaman 3+ where if you're just slightly holding down and then press jump, you'll slide instead of jump. Sliding off of a ledge instead of jumping off of a ledge almost always equals death. PS2's controller is way better than gamecube's controller in that respect.

Question: is there any particular reason why they aren't making this on the X-Box?

I'm wondering what Mega Man games will be on this collection. In particular, I wonder if Rockman and Forte and the "X" series will be on this disk. Rockman and Forte is IMO the best Mega Man game to grace the Snes.
Edit: Never mind, realized that mozilla didn't like the page. I highlighted and realized that the text said that only 1-8 and a two arcade games will be on the disk. I guess that means to Rockman or "X" series.

Rockman and Forte was just released for GBA, they wouldnt go rereleasing it in a collection so soon.
While it would cost a whole lot more, I would rather have the actual NES games and such, as opposed to some collection of ROMs. Still good tho, cuz i lost my copy of MM8. I think this collection marks the true end of the "MegaMan" label in the franchise. The "X" series still has life in it, with a PS2 RPG on the way, and that is why we shouldn't expect to see an X collection any time soon. Though that would be pretty frikkin sweet...

They've been saying that the original incarnation of Mega Man would be retired since way back when Mega Man Legends first came out... I wouldn't mind if future games starring the original stuck to the handhelds, if only to keep the character going. Speaking of which, I want another Legends game, if only for Tron Bonne.
One of the arcade games must be Mega Man Power Battles, which is primarily a series of boss battles in a row, but I can't guess at the other one. Wasn't there a kart racing-type Mega Man game?

I don't know if this will burst anyone's bubble but they released a collection not too long ago for the original playstation. I think it included Megamans 1-6 or maybe 7. ALot of people complained...seeing as the controls sucked and they did a horrible job porting the games. However, i'm sure capcom worked out all the kinks seeing as this doesn't look like a ploy to make MORE money. I love mega man though

I just got my EGM, and it reviews MMAC. Some bits on it...
--Scores: 8.0, 8.0, 7.0 (5.0 is AVERAGE, neither good or bad) --Good: Mega Man 1-4, 7, 8...Bad: Mega Man 5, 6 ---"Newcomers should stay away (''I can't duck? Or shoot up?!''), but for those of us who grew up with Capcom's blue bomber, 30 bucks for this high-quality collection is a steal." --"The only problem is that Capcom stuck to the basic Mega Man formula too closely---newcomers expecting drastically varied gameplay between each title are in for a surprise." Another comment in their review by a picture has just inspired me to create a new thread.

1-4 were the classics.. 5 and 6 were a bit different, but how can you hate a game when you can ride the weapon.. Star Missle.
Its an old school collection I have literally been waiting years for.

I've never played any Megaman games before, this looks like a good chance for me to get into it. I have nothing against oldskool, once I got Tennis in Animal Crossing I played that more than the real game =)

Just got the game guys; I'm just gonna say that, as an avid Mega Man fan, it's worth the $30 bucks. The end of Mega Man 1 is giving me hell right now though (where ya gotta kill Bomb Man, Fire Man, Ice Man, and Guts Man in a row)...but still worth it.

I just got mine today, and a word of warning to those who have both systems and are still undecided- the Gamecube version may have cooler extras, but the controls are totally counterintuitive.
For some ungodly reason, they decided to buck the tradition that's been in place since the NES days, and made B=Jump, A=Shoot. There's no option to remap them, either, and I'm having a hard time conquering 19 years of learned behavior. I was afraid of something like this... hopefully, I can still swap it out for the other version. I love you anyway, Mega Man.

If that was true of all of them, I wouldn't have any complaints. But it only works in Mega Man 8. They may have determined this layout was better for the GC controller, but there still should have been a remapping feature to personalize the buttons.
Bought a PS2 version, and sold my GC one on Ebay. I only lost a dollar on the deal, so it worked out alright.

I never played these games growing up and I gotta tell you, these motherfuckers are kicking my ass!
I can not get through a level on any of the games I've played so far. Luckily, I have Spider-Man 2 to soothe me with a little web-slinging.

Anybody got any tips on beatin' Dr. Wily in Mega Man 7? I can kill his first machine he has waitin' for me without getting touched, but that second one...what a pain! I mean, come on, he's dang near impossible. By extreme fortune and use of all my energy tanks, I got him a lil' below half energy once or twice.

I like how alot of the early mega man games were hard because of the stage themselfs and not so much the monsters difficulty. And then as long as you knew the pattern of the boss at the end it was ok. Only problem was getting the pattern down. Just wish they would have stuck with the level difficulty thing in mega man x series. Only hard thing now is in like mega man x7 where it goes to a crappy 3d

the controls are still my downfall.. its going to take a while to hold the controller right and to stop pressing what is now the wrong button.
If X works.. I'll try, but that'll involve holding the controller a different way, and thus.... more time invovled to get used to it. I hope it works though or else by the time I get it down here, I"ll be screwed when I whip through Mega Man X on my SNES... I take that back they had control configs in that one... Its cool and all, but they made a major mistake by not allowing you to change your controls. I kinda thought that was mandatory.
