Grand Turismo
Would anyone else join me in agreeing that Grand Turismo 3 is one of the most playable games ever?
![]() And another thing... has anyone heard much info on Grand Turismo 4?

Gran Turismo 3 is still my favorite racing game of all time. Maybe not the funnest at times, but its still the most addicting and time consuming/rewarding. All GT4 needs is online play and a slight graphical upgrade and it'll be ready to steal gamers' time again. I'd also like to see a damage engine implemented somehow, but it might take away from the Gran Turismo feel.

I played GT4 at E3 and lemme tell you it does rock, the physics have been completely overhauled making it more relasitic, the cars now have a broader range of years, from old nissans to new rx8 race cars, I tried out the Times Square level and man was it awsome, the detail on the scenery is insane! I cant wait for this game to come out!

I love this game. In the past few weeks, I've spent hours playing, and have a couple dozen cars, all fully upgraded. Just to give you an idea of how much I play, I got myself the money for an XJ220 by playing the first series in Amateur Level over and over, just to see if I had the patience to do it. I also have the Team Oreca Viper, Zonda, Opel Speedster, and CL600(CLK?) I never was very interested in cars until I got the original Grand Turismo, since then I've beecome a dedicate motorhead and racing fan.
In GT4, I'd like to see at least some body damage (just to see my brother's face when he goes around Super Speedway without letting up on the gas and intentionally slamming the walls to avoid braking,) realistic flips and rollovers, and maybe throw in varying track conditions (moisture, temperature for normal tracks, various levels of snow and ice for rally) |

They haev said that damage wont be in the game, due to the fact that to get it realistic and keep in line with the game would take way too long and be way to difficult to do.....gt3 introduced wet tracks, hopefully they will bring some other variances in too

Yeah, introducing a damage or crashing system would take a very long time to do if they wanted it perfect. Gran Turismo is a driving simulator, not necessarily a crash simulator (even though crashing comes with driving, of course). Gran Turismo's main idea is to make these cars handle just like in real life, but through a game controller. I like crashes in games and damage on cars as much as the next person, but I have to say that trying to implement it into a Gran Turismo game would probably mess it up. The handling is too good right now for them to have to rework it to add damage and crashing engines. I can't wait until GT4; it's looking really good right now.

Loved all the Gran Tourismo games... I even have fun just buying random cars and putting in upgrades just for the sake of doing it. I'm really looking forward to the GT4, especially since it's going to have online play and more cars than GT3 (Or so I hear). I missed having the tons of choices like I did in GT1 and 2 that really got cut down in 3.
On a side note, Mr. Self Destruct, I was very creeped out by your avatar and quickly scrolled past your post and didn't read it ![]() |

I think adding in a crash engine would make the game damn near impossible...no matter how good you are, it's pretty tough to keep all four tires on the road for the whole race, and the makers of these games are such perfectionists, that bumping into that wall on accident cause you didn't slow down enough on the last corner wouldn't just make you lose 3-4 seconds...it would take you out of the race....and i really don't wanna see a cheesy crash engine where you can head on a wall at 200 miles and hour and still drive.

I remember reading an article a while back about how game developers would love to put damage models in for cars in racing games but can't. Most auto makers won't license the car for use in a game if it is going to be shown damaged. They believe it could somehow hurt sales or something I guess.

One thing is confirmed for GT4, no damage, they physics designer said that they can't perfect the damage effects to a level they'd be satisfied with. Also there's the issue of companies not wanting to see their cars smashed up realisticly in a videogame.

Gran Turismo was my First Game for Playstation.. Then Gran T. II
Gran Turismo II is by far my favorite for game play! Yes the graphics lack but the fun was taken out of Gran Turismo III when they did away with the used cars. Like the Rx-7, and old hondas. That made it more fun! Supping up an old P. O . S after beating most of them game was the most fun for me. I hope Gran Turismo 4 is online! and Has a bunch of American and older Jap cars not only the new cars! N.O.S, damage, freeway racing, would all be nice aswell! Oh and Keep the body kit upgrades avaiable for all cars! GT3 lost that aswell... My 2 Cents...

Well, sorry everyone but I don't like it. I can easily understand how many people can enjoy the game, but for me, its just too darn realistic. I prefer racing games in which you can shoot missiles, drop bombs, and use weird things to your advantage. I play video games to escape the real world and be able to do wicked stuff. But hey, thats only me.

Perfectly understandable Eviltree, I too am not such a big fan of GT though I'll admit it's a good game.

From what I read of the E3 coverage for GT4, Polyphony rebuilt the physics engine from the ground up. Wow!
I cannot wait for this game to come out. In the meantime, I'm eyeing Grand Prix Racing(?) and Collin McRae 3 for PS2.

Gran Turismo 3 is a great racing game even though I think they could've added a few more things to it like more modifications, car damage, the ability to power brake and do burnouts for as long as u want and a two player street racing simulator. Also more custom work to the car's themselves like body kits, tail light's, exhaust pipes, decals, spoilers, and different exhaust sounds for different mufflers. I'd give the over all game a B+ I'd like to see a GT3 meets Midnight Club2, that'd be killer.
