I loved the series in the neo geo machines in the arcades, I loved them so much I even bought the damn neo geo pocket so I could own 1 & 2. Part 3 came out on XBox and I snatched it up.

The game is true to its neo geo and arcade counterparts (hard as hell), except one huge flaw...when you continue, you start at the beginning of the mission instead of where you last bit the bulllet. The games a beast in graphics and I can play it all day.

If you guys like 2-D shooters like contra, this games for you.

This is the absolute best post I could have come across today. Some friends have just downloaded MAME to relive the glory that is old school gaming, and it led to a discussion of some of our favorite games. Everyone agreed that "that one where you ran across and shot everything, and there were camels, too!" was one of the best games ever, but nobody could remember the name. That game was metal slug, and from seeing your post I am now about to head out and get MS3. Thanks quest1mark - you've made my month!

Metal slug is good stuff, theres neo geo emu's out there you can play the first couple too.

if you loved the first three, try getting metal slug X, dunno if you can buy or download it but ive seen it at the machines and plays dan nice happy hunting.

i dont know if i like the game so much anymore...hahah. ive had the game for about a week and ive been on the final mission forever! its soooo long and 5 men (i know i cheated) isnt enough! damn you snk!

Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3 are the best in the series. I can imagine Mission 5 getting sooooo frustrating though now that you start from the beginning every time you die :/ Weird.

Agreed, I rented this, and the starting from the beginning is nearly a game-breaking flaw for me. Other than that, excellent game though.
