Favorite old Sega Genesis game?
Alright everyone. What's your favorite Sega Genesis game?? I remember it was a cut above the graphics of the SNES and came with that game called (I do believe) Legendary Beasts.
My favorite game was called "Phantasy Star". LOVED IT!!! There was another game that I can't remember the name of that was cool and it was cool as hell!! You walked around (Side scroller) and fought people with a sword. There was a lot of blood as you fought and it was kewl for the time. :) BUT...Phantasy Star was definitely my favorite game of that console. |
Comix Zone
By the way Gjeff, could you tell us when you're going to be making "Favorite game for (Insert name of console here)" so I have a week to think about it? ;) |
Duh, Sonic!
The best was when you could have the second player be Tails. |
Was it "Altered Beast?" Or was that another? Hm...
I think my favorite was Toejam and Earl, but that might also be because I always played it with my older brother... at this point, I honestly don't even remember if it was any good :p |

Actually I just came up with this thread because of my thinking about "Phantasy Star". It would be good to know if others feel the same way. |

Skitchin'...you were on roller blades and raced by grabbing on to passing cars bumpers....wasn't on the market too long before the do-gooders threw a fit and got it removed, but i do have this system emulated on my pc and play it every once in a while

NBA Jam Tournament Edition
Oooooooooooooh my! He's on fire! |
Shaq-fu :D :p
|
Beyond Oasis.
|
Landstalker. Never beat it, and its haunted me ever since.
|
This game called gunstar heroes. You could mix weapon types to get the most badass weapons possible. I remember the laser one with normal bullets got you a homing device and you just walked with the shoot button down and owned everyone. Good times.

|
I burnt out my Speedball 2 cartradge I played it so much
|
Guys.... I can't believe you've all forgotten....
ROAD RASH !!!! Hit those popo with your club! |
Shining Force - easily the favorite game of my childhood. My best friend and I would stay up all night playing it, as it was our first experience with an RPG kind of game, and we were fascinated.
|
Phantasy Star II was one of my fav games on the Genesis also - that's why I picked up Phantasy Star Collection for the GBA - you should check it out. It has Phantasy Star I, II, and III on the cart - and they're absolutely perfect. They look just like the genesis versions. I guess it was a waste for me since I have a Nomad and the genesis carts anyway, but at least I get those 3 on one and I can play PSIV on my Nomad.
|
NO WAY!!! :( though...I don't have a GBA. I have a PS2 and that's it. ARG! If they put it out for the PC...I would be all over it!!!
Send me the link anyway though!!! I'd love to take a look at it! :) |
Im in the Gunstar Heroes crowd also. That game rules. Brilliant design, awesome bosses and geniune frantic gameplay.
|
I think all I ever played were Madden football, and NHPLA Hockey. I also played NBA Jam, but I could kick anyone's ass in the first two mentions. When they first came out with the adapter so 4 could play, I think we played hockey for over a day straight!

I'm a lil' shocked that nobody's mentioned this excellent puzzle-game: Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I'm almost stunned that Contra: Hard Corpse hasn't been named. Last, I'm flat-out disappointed that Boogerman hasn't been nominated a minimum of 25 times yet. ...Okay, I lied about that last one, but Boogerman's a fun game nonetheless. Check it out sometime if ya get the chance. |
Altered Beast and Golden Axe, hands down. (Don't forget the 32x edition of Doom)

Shadowrun all the way motherfuckeres! And Flashback the quest for Identity and Mutant League Football

Echo the Dolphin Streets of Rage 2 All the Sonic games I apologize for nothing. Not even Echo. |
SHADOWRUN!! remember hacking, and the weird colored blobs were nodes?
Ballz, Boogerman, and Desert Strike :D |
Never played Echo the Dolphin weirdly enough. Even though they touted that as being the next gen in graphics.
|
Road Rash, Ghouls & Ghosts.
|
OMG, I forgot about World Series Baseball! That game rocked.
Oh, do any of you still have and play your sega? I still do a little, but my kids play some of the games now. |

|
Wasn't echo the dolphin supposed to be a breakthrough in graphics?
|
shadowrun was my favorite by far, i still have my genesis and shadowrun because i love it sooooo much
|
DArn......I really miss my Genesis. I know I can buy it on Ebay or something....but I don't have time to play with my PS2 now so....would be a waste.

I loved Earthworm Jim (both of them) and Vectorman. Eternal Champions got us through the Blizzrd of '93. However, the game I could still go back and keep playing was Target:Earth.

What was the whole point of Ecco by the way? Was it an adventure game? Were their enemies that you had to fight?
|
Desert Strike
|
Desert Strike....DAMN good game!
|
phantasy star 4
the best genesis game, and still by far one of the best rpgs out there. |
Hmm...i'm trying to remember Phantasy Star 4. Don't think I played it. I think the last one I played was the 3rd one where you got to play through different Generations of the characters. It was cool as hell!!!
What was 4 about? |
I always loved the game faery tale.
|
SKITCHIN!!!!
best sega genesis game by far plus you could plug it into the top of Sonic & Knuckles and play the bonus level |
What's "Skitchin"? Also...don't remember "Faery Tale". Was that an RPG?
|
Quote:
EDIT: LIAR! I get the "No Way!" message :( |
Hey hey hey!!!! What's Skitchin!?!?!? :)
|
Skitchin is kind of like road rash, except you race on rollerblades and you can grab onto the back of cars (skate+hitch=skitch) to gain extra speed. And you can pick up weapons like whips, chains, boards, cattle prods, etc. to knock out your opponents.
The soundtrack was awesome for a genesis game and it was pretty much like road rash, except I liked it a lot more than road rash. |
Shining force hands down for me.
maximum carnage is a close second |
Gjefflin...Yes, Faery tale was a RPG. You were one of three brothers and you wandered around a land and battled skeletons wraiths and such

if you wait long enough you need to do some key combination... maybe select + some other buttons... or select just wait, maybe it will tell you but trust me, you can... any game that has that little yellow thumb grip you can use to play a secret level in S&K trust me |
Hmmm, the yellow tab Carts were all EA Releases... I don't get why EA and SEGA would do such a thing... I'll look into it though, tis very interesting :)
|
"What was 4 about?"
heh, it's been a while... but... it's called "the end of the millenium" it's sort of the final chapter in the ps series (at least in this time/galaxy) Dark Force is back, and you face a new, greater evil. Takes place on algo, with the main character Chaz being a "hunter" in training. You travel to many different planets in search of answers. Some old favs are back and there are lots of hints at the previous games, including a big statue of Alis in one of the towns. Esper Lutz makes a surprising comeback ;) GREAT soundtrack, phenomenal. GREAT graphics, with comic book style cut scenes. Very entertaining plot, and characters you really cared about. It's also pretty long, id say longer than FF6 or CT. Lots of good extra missions and sidequests. Beats the pants of the previous 3, especially PS3 which was made by a different company. GET IT GET IT GET IT! |
Ah.....oh Dark Force. Amazing. VERY good game.
|
Flashback the quest for Identity was the coolest game of all time when it came out.
Phantasy Star II was great except I never got to see the end of the game. I was 1 room away from winning and the stupid game save had a glitch and wouldn't let me finish. Lunar: The Silver Star was the best Sega CD game out. I've been trying to buy it on Ebay for years without luck. They want too much for it. Last but not least: EA Sports games. EA became a powerhouse due to Sega and the Madden Football series was the best.l |
Phantasy star II had a glitch? That's weird. I finished it and really loved it. Perhaps it was just a cartridge problem.
|
I paid $100 for my Phantasy Star IV cart - it's a real piece of art. I never finished it though - but I load it up occasionally on my Noman - just wish I remembered what I was doing in the game :(

NHL 97!!!
NBA Jam and paperboy |
Noooo, Paperboy's claim to fame is solely Nintendo-based. Any Sega version must hang its head in shame.

Mortal combat (with red blood SNES version had green blood)
