PC gaming or Console gaming?
Alright everyone. Which do you prefer? PC gaming or Console (ie: X-Box, PS2...etc)
I prefer PC gaming because I like to watch TV at the same time while playing a game. Can't do that with a console. What do you guys think? |
Thats a tough one, I play both PC and Gamecube. If I had to choose though, it would probably be more PC. The only problem is having to upgrade the damn thing so often.
|
You have a point about the pc. I spent over 2k this past X-mas getting a state of the art box.

This question has been answered a hundred times on TFP, but may as well answer it again!
PC gaming and console gaming have advantages and disadvantages over each other. I simply play both to get the best of both worlds. Taking sides or playing only one or the other simply limits the gaming experience. -Lasereth |

has to be PC gaming for me; no televsion here and I do not want one anytime soon (or to be more specific this lifetime)
edit: just thought of the thread near this one currently and if there is an easy way that I can properly use my 21" CRT and ATI AIW 7500 card for a console then I would strongly consider buying one. |

would be nice to be able to play Half Life smoothly and not experience 'issues' like my current card always has transtioning whenever I try it. |
Speed_Gibson, you can easily hook up a console to a computer monitor (and get a very nice picture in the process).
The hardest part is finding one part. An S-Video to VGA converter. The only other thing besides the console you need is a S-Video cable for that specific console. After that you're good to go :) |

because i have limited play time.. i go console. |
Console.
Maybe it's my old-schoolness, but nothing beats having a controller in your hand to play a game. Nothing. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Well....actually..no matter what anyone answers, my favorite will always be PC gaming. I just love the double stimulation of playing a game and watching TV at the same time. |
pc games are way better, especially for a first person shooter. they are almost impossible for me to control on the ps2, but maybe i am retarded.
|
Fight Night 2004, very difficult to control without two joysticks.
SOCOM 2, a great FPS that can be played just as well as any computer FPS. (Personally my favorite "realistic" FPS out there). NHL 2004, just not as much fun without the analog control Next-Gen consoles can provide. Tecmo Super Bowl. Just isn't the same without the old NES controller. No, you are not retarded, you are just extremely close-minded :) |

EDIT: I still think FPS's are better on PC but they're still great on consoles |
I play RPG's on console, and idealy the rest on PC. Altho, my PC is a pile so I rarely get to experience all the graphical quality of the new games, so I need to resort to console to woo me with the ooohs and aahhs of technicolor.
Edit: PC's! PC's have WoW! Yayayay! |
I prefer PC's because my favorite genres are MMORPGS and FPS and for me nothing beats good ole WASD and mouse for FPS and WOW and EQ2 are coming to PC.
|
Thats a tough choice, I used to lean towards consoles because they had a greater variety of games (pc revolve around RTS, FPS and some spin-off of the D&D boards). After all the local arcades died out, I started to enjoy the competition online (sc and cs). After a couple years of playing online, I just got sick of all the cheaters, brats and punks. Now I prefer to play multiplayer games with people I know.

[/QUOTE I mostly play RPG's but I occassionally play FPS's as well. And I use the mouse to turn and the arrow keys to move. And yeah...perhaps it's cause i'm use to it but the joystick just seems harder to use. |
since i have a playstation controller, and x-box controller for my pc, and my pc is faster and has a lot better of a video card then the x-box or anything else will for a while, I have to choose pc gaming but console gaming still has a bigger variety of games
|
Well to add a couple of things that might have been said before.
PC games are good for some genres. FPS and RTS games come to mind. There are some good FPS games for consoles (Halo for example) but I don't think I would like to play Battlefield on a console, or Command and Conquer either. Consoles. Much more comfortable. Can recline on the couch and play with a comfortable controller. Great for Japanese Style RPGs, Driving Games, and Platformers just to name a few. I personally own all 4 (yes 4 I include the dreamcast still) of the consoles and I have a computer that has not been unable to play games at high quality at 1600x1200 even though its almost two years old now. One thing I would like to say. Some people I know like to say that consoles look better and run faster than any computer game... while this may be true in part they don't seem to understand that even HDTV quality games don't run at the resolutions that I play games on my PC. The PC kicks the consoles ass in terms of power but costs accordingly. |
Consoles all the way. PCs are really expensive to keep up to date. Consoles have a better fun to dollar ratio than PCs.
Plus consoles have more of the games I like to play like Japanese RPGs and fighting games. That's why I own every major console released since the playstation (including handhelds) and I rarely play games on my PC and mostly use it for web-browsing. |

Console gaming is for children. PC gaming is infinitely superior in terms of graphics and multiplayer over the internet.

All three console systems have online capabilities now, so that aspect isn't a disadvantage. The only graphical aspect that's inferior to PC games is the resolution. Console games have amazing graphics even when compared to PC games. Yes, the resolution is low, but everything else is superb. -Lasereth |

Half the RPGs on PC are out on the consoles anyway and vice versa, so the graphically more adult thing doesn't count. What RPGs are you referring to that are so adult on PC? Quote:
I hate that son of a bitch. I'm gonna track down whoever created that eye rolling smiley and punch'em in the face. It makes the person that's using it look like a little brat! -Lasereth |

That makes two people wrong in this thread! :) I have the facts to prove it. Some console gaming is aimed at children, but some PC gaming is aimed at children too. With games like Eternal Darkess, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, GTA, Fatal Frame, Gran Turismo, etc. out, it literally proves that consoles aren't for "children." My little 3 year old sister has a Clifford the Big Red Dog game on PC. Are PCs for children now? No, they simply have games for all ages.
Like I said before, the only thing PCs have over consoles in terms of graphics is resolution. All three consoles have online multiplayer as of now, so that can't be used against it either. Why do people have to say one is better than the other? Why can't ya just accept that both platforms have kick ass games? Does one always have to be better than the other? If ya play both, you get a better gaming experience, and that's all that matters to me. Taking sides simply limits the types of games you can play...and that's a loss for any gamer! -Lasereth |

PC games don't have better graphics (necessarily) or a better multiplayer. Just because you aren't "in" to console gaming doesn't mean it's for kids. PC has just as many "kiddy" games with bad graphics and horrific multiplayer as consoles do. Consoles have just as many "adult" games with good graphics and excellent multiplayer as PCs do. Get over it. |

And what I SAID was that console games seem to have their games more cartoony! Example....Baldur's Gate series on the PC. More adult. And then later on the consoles came out with a Baldur's Gate series that was more adult looking but the PC had it first. NeverWinter Nights on the PC....more adult! Let's see...biggest RPG's on the console...ZELDA!!!! MORE CARTOONY!!! Again not saying that one thing is another I'm just saying that consoles seem to come out with more cartoony style games then the PC does. AND I have a PS2 so i'm not just "saying" that. |

Console games don't lean more towards cartooniness, the console market just caters for a wider audience and proportionately provides enough titles per each and every type of genre.
Both console and PC markets are fantastic and I fully indulge myself into both worlds, just as any real gamer should. |
FPS/Strategy = PC
RPG/Combat (SF or SSBM) = Console FPS is a pain in the ass and requires less skill to play on console because of autoaim. Strategy is a joke on Console. RPG was made for Console. Combat goes either way but Combat has been more geared toward Console. |
PC for ALL my gaming. It used to be ALL console....until I played my first fps on a pc.
I like pc over the console for one reason, you can mod the games. If you don't like it, tear the game apart and fix it yourself. Or add something onto the existing game. Cool and fun stuff. |

If you won't play a game like Suikoden, Zelda, or the other badass games for console, simply because of the "cartoony graphics" as you call them, then you are missing out on some of the best games ever made.....
|
Let me also inform the console haters that the gameplay makes the game, not the graphics. The push for better and better graphics has been in many ways bad for gaming because many games have relied on amazing graphics with simple games that are easy to beat.
I've never thought console RPG's were better than PC rpgs. |
I prefer console gaming. It allows me to relax in my bed or couch while playing :D
|
All the above!
PC, XBOX, PS2, Gamecube, NeoGeo. (i still have my gensis and original NES, SuperNES, SegaCD, N64).... I am a gamin' freak. ; ) |
