Well I can't decide if i wanna buy an xbox or not, i have a PS2 but there are some games on xbox that i REALLY REALLY want to play. any ideas? =P i know this is totally objective at this point, but i just wanted to through it up on the boards....

00111000 05-17-2004 11:30 AM

Go for it. Spiffy price these days. Live is good also, once you mute all the dumbasses :)

absorbentishe 05-17-2004 11:44 AM

Oh just go and get it. I wanted an X-box, but my wife wanted a PS2, while I don't regret not getting the X-box, I still want one.

scavengertype 05-17-2004 11:50 AM

Get an Xbox for $150 ($125 used), put a modchip in there ($40), and you have the best media player as well as the best console gaming system money can buy. check it out:

Lasereth, how many of those are exclusives?

zxello 05-17-2004 04:31 PM

20 by my count

mcwoop 05-17-2004 04:49 PM

With Halo 2 coming out soon, it would be a wise decision to pick up an X-Box as well as Live as soon as you can. That way, you can get a good feel for the system before you wind up a red stain in Blood Gulch 2 sometime in the fall.

zxello 05-17-2004 04:53 PM

oh another thing i forgot to tell you guys is that im saving up for a motorcycle, and that would be like 300$ or so off my motorcycle fund ...... :)

It doesn't matter if they're exclusives or not. He's not trying to decide whether to get an XBox or PS2, or an XBox or a GC. He's trying to decide whether to get an XBox period. On top of that, I didn't say that XBox was better than other systems, I simply showed a list of games that are good for the system. I'm 100% against taking sides in console wars because it's pure bullshit. If a system has 5 good games then it's worth buying.

I'm gonna wait and see how the promotions start looking right around the Halo 2 release. Might get some nice bundles by then.

At E3 MSXB said that the marketing push behind Halo 2 is going to be mind-numbingly phenomenal, can't wait to see what they do!

zxello 05-17-2004 11:10 PM

well see i work for a company that i can buy an xbox now, get a replacement plan on it, and when the halo 2 promotions start up, just return my xbox and get the money back (within 2 years of buying it) so i can buy another......

I agree with Lasereth on this 100%. I just bought my XBox this past Friday and I love it, even if the only games I have so far are Halo and Fuzion Frenzy, which was free at Best Buy. Thanks to Lasereth's list, I have guidance in my future purchases, and I know that I won't be regretting any of them.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy. I'm just a guy who doesn't have money to buy every console, even if it does have five good games.

Jeff 05-18-2004 01:19 PM

Halo 2's the ONLY reason I'm considering buying an X-Box. I'm excited about it.

05-18-2004 05:12 PM

Xbox modding is the win. I can't imagine a day without xbox media center cranking out the tunes or streaming divx to my T.V. That, and the games. The xbox has a great line up off exclusive and non exclusive games wih some H U G E blockbosters on the horizon : B.C., Halo2, Fable and more.

clockworkgreen 05-18-2004 05:34 PM

Yeah, for some of us, it's just hard to explain to the new wife that there's this great thing out there that if I buy I'll never see her again at night for about 12 months...That's a tough conversation to start...

punx1325 05-18-2004 06:04 PM

Halo 2...it is all that matters. I have 3 games right now and still I am in love with it. Live makes it worth the extra money....

Dostoevsky 05-18-2004 07:38 PM

NotMinus beat me to the punch here but I'll reiterate.

You will be very disappointed with your decision if you DO NOT buy an Xbox because of the exclusive games on the horizon.

Halo 2, Doom 3, and Fable are three of the most anticipated games in Console history and they are ALL Xbox exclusives slated for the 3rd and 4th quarters of '04. I can't imagine needing any other reason (s) to invest in the box.

Grondar 05-18-2004 07:44 PM

I picked up an XBox a few weeks ago, and am really enjoying it.

There are a lot of great (and pretty recent) games that are just $29.99 (Crimson Skies, Project Gotham Racing 2, etc.) and also XBox Live compatible.

I always thought the XBox controller sucked, but I was just basing my view on assumptions and pictures. After I tried out an S-Controller, I find that I like it a lot, and that it isn't bad at all.

Halo is a fun game, and I am on the last level. I also picked up Crimson Skies and Project Gotham Racing 2, which are very good games also. I played Crimson Skies the most after Halo, and haven't played too much of Project Gotham 2 yet, as I want to get through Halo and hopefully Crimson Skies first..

I'm looking forward to Halo 2, Full Spectrum Warrior, Madden 2005 (online also this year), Forza Motorsports, Doom 3, and Fable.

It seems like a good system, and given the fact that it recently price dropped, it's a much easier decision to pick one up.

Take care.

Fremen 05-18-2004 08:16 PM

Can you play Halo by yourself?
Also, what other Xbox games are good single players?

Yes, Halo has a single player campaign/story. It's pretty good IMO, and isn't just deathmatches against CPU bots.

I've only played Halo, Crimson Skies, and Project Gotham Racing 2 so far. Halo and Crimson Skies are great single player games. Project Gotham Racing 2 is also a lot of fun, but it seems to shine online, as it has leaderboards, downloadable "ghosts," and more.

I rented Splinter Cell 2 and Madden 2004 last week, returned them tonight, and didn't play them once. It's sad really, but I just had an "off" week for gaming, and didn't real play at all, except for some Halo.

I've played Madden 2004 for PS2 and XBox (rented earlier also), and I enjoy it a lot.

If you get sports games, I highly recommend buying an Action Replay so that you can download updated rosters that various users make online.

Take care.

Fremen 05-18-2004 09:08 PM

Thanks for the info, Grondar.
I'm on dialup, so if I get an Xbox I won't be able to play online.
I liked the look of the commercial for Crimson Skies when it came out so I would definitely be interested in that.
I'm not into too many sports games, though.
I like racing, but I'd kinda like to get a title that has a free-roaming mode where you can go anywhere you want without the game stopping if you don't pass a checkpoint by a certain time.

You may want to check out MX Unleashed. It it a Motocross (dirt bike) game, that has both track racing and open/freestlye modes. The racing is more structured, but the freestyle modes allow you to drive around without limitation and just "have fun."

For reviews and information about the game, I recommend checking out the MX Unleashed page at GameRankings.

Take care.

Thanks. I appreciate it. :)
I used to like Exitebike. Hopefully it's just as fun. ;)

IMO, it depends if your computer is good or not.

If you have a kick ass up-to-date system with an awesome graphics card, I'd say save your $$.

Pretty much all of the good games for XBox are abailable on PC.

I agree with this. Doom 3, Half Life 2 will both be better for PC.

I'd highly recommend an XBox if you don't have a highend computer though. These games are not to be missed.

Mr.Deflok 05-19-2004 10:16 PM

I'm probably gonna get Doom 3 for both platforms, only because the XB will have Co-Op. Or at least I'll wait till a Co-Op mod for the PC version goes into development...

charlesesl 05-22-2004 10:05 AM

Dumb question: Is there any software that will allow the xbox access live for free?

sandeep 05-22-2004 12:26 PM

charlesesl, I don't know about that, but there is stuff like Xbox Connect that are ways to connect online with your xbox, without live.

You won't be playing on "Live" but like another set of servers online against other players who have Connect installed.

I think GameSpy also makes an Xbox tunnel software.

This is all from a few years ago, so I don't know if they're still around. Give them a google though.

Definatley get Morrowind GOTY, that is, if you can say goodbye to your wife, family and friends for the next month or two.

That game has stolen so much of my life.
