Silent Hill 4
Lots of updates from E3!
Updated screenshots: http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/608/608237/imgs_1.html "Hands On" review: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/513/513572p1.html There's actually a readable health meter this time! Man, thank god, because it was near impossible to gauge your health in 2 and 3 with the whole "flickering image of you where you're currently standing". Items will be accessed via a method similar to that found in Metal Gear Solid.. active and on the same screen. No more flipping between menu screens and whatnot. All due out in Sept!! Thank god... the wait from SH2 to SH3 was way too long. |
My brother and I made an interesting observation. Doesn't the girl look a little like Heather from SH3? Only less drugged out looking, darker hair(from the blood?), and a broken arm?
Maybe we're just seeing things. |
Yeah, looks like a cross between her and Maria from SH2.
|
I watched the old SH4 trailer a few months ago and almost shit my pants. It looks scary as hell! I've only played the first one, but I watched Redjake and Blitzkrieg beat SH2 and SH3. I'm sure 4 will be a quality game if it's anything like the others in the series.

They're all quality games, they all (for me at least) have had really, really disappointing endings.
|
First and Second SH were just amazing games.
The third was a disapointment overall for me, I hope they try somthing different for this one. The second was probably my fav so far. |
thank you for those links Stompy!
I can't wait to try it - especially with those new features! :D |
why are they so grainy? I know all of them had slight grains, but some of the screenshots look horrible. I hope they touch it up some.

I've read from a few sources that the "grainy" look is actually a part of the game and is used as an effect to make the game that much more eerie.
Kinda looks awkward, but I think it'll turn out good ;) If I'm not mistaken, the same guys who directed/produced 2 are making 4, so I expect this one to be the most terrifying yet. |
I saw the trailer a while ago, and the only thing I have to say is : "I am scared, hold me...."

The "grainy" thing you guys are talking about is added for effect. And believe me, it adds EFFECT. It gives the game a grungy atmosphere as if you are really in a deserted town. I loved it. You could turn it off in SH2 and SH3. I left it on because it was so much better that way. |
Personally I though SH3 was the best of the lot, I know I'm in the minority but seriously, how could the blood room not fuck you up?
Whoever designs the creatures in this series must have been to hell and back, my god the things you see in here are incredibly terrifying... oh, and the sound... fuck... |

Ah God. The static radio. Bad memories man, bad memories. Almost as bad as the groaning zombies in RH.
|
You guys are making me want to replay them over again! I dont have time for that kind of dedication :P

fucked me up quite nicely..... |
Haha, good to see I wasn't the only one turned into a quivering bitch when walking into that room :)
Check out the new trailer for SH4: http://www.gametrailers.com/gt_vault...nthill4_5.html Not really a spoiler but read this after you watch the clip... Spoiler: Those guys hanging from the ceiling slapping each other made me almost go to sleep with the lights on |
that is some fucked up shit Mr. Deflok. holy crap. I quit halfway through the video.

It's going to take me 6hrs. to download it and I'll be damned if I quit watching it halfway through. :D |
Hm, thats just one thing I never understood about these games.
I found them as a fun experience, completly different from the rest. But I never saw the fear and scaryness, the creatures and whatnot in the game are to "fake" so to say, to produce any fear for me. I think if they were to start having more human-like creatures, doing some very sick things, then it may strike a nerve, otherwise, its just another game. |
Is it just me or did that sphere thingy towards the end look like the engine from Event Horizon in Mr.Deflock's clip ?

Those roving wheelchairs are creepy. :D
I also liked the two-headed handwalker. This thing has unbelievable graphics. I felt like I was watching a movie. Thanks for the link, Mr.D. |

I dont see anything remotly scary. :( Maybe I'm to brainwashed with this stuff allready to no longer be affected. |

I've found that the people who aren't frightened or at least disturbed by these games are not taking them seriously. I mean no offense, but if you can't get IN to the game, then it's certainly not scary. Like one of my best friends. He thinks the games are FUNNY. I was like do you even know what's going on? He skips past the cut scenes and videos and everything. He doesn't read the text. He plays with the lights on and plays music on his computer in the background. Of course it's not scary :) If you delve yourself into the world of Silent Hill, and play with the lights off, and read everything the game gives you, and explore everything without just running through the different areas, you will be scared. I promise. If you aren't scared by it, you aren't taking it seriously :) |
:/
I would have to disagree with you on that, while it may be true on other people, I do take the game seriously, I do play with the lights off, and I spend countless wasted time just exploring forever. I'm a RPG freak, exploring and reading the details is one of the most fun traits. Surely there must be other people in this world that WHILE taking the games seriously dont find it remotly scary. I've been scared more in games that are not even ment to be scary. Having random shit popout while in a stealth mission, things that get so quiet you wouldnt ever expect that next. This game essentially prepares you for the scares and thrills before you even see them. I guess thats what it comes down to for what I need, random scares out of the cold blue in a game that isnt ment for it. That or spiders... fucking things.. must die. |
One more point I'd like to add to RedJake's post is that you need the volume up, just like Lasereth mentioned before, the sound is the scariest part of the game. It really helps if you've got a Surround Sound setup, hearing the clanging metal from behind you with the footsteps from upstair above you is terrifying.
And Destrox, to each his own, I love the fear that envelopes me in a SH game, but as you said when shit pops up out of nowhere, I'm never phased by it, kinda become a cliche to me, in the same sort of way SH can't be scary to you. Kinda. |

Damn, that trailer is in-tense.
I started with SH3 and quit about 1/2 way through because of course I got fed up with the camera angle issues. Walking into rooms with the camera staring down at my scalp from high up and to the left while being attacked was not cool. The atmosphere was tremendous though, very very immersive and scary. Looks like Ill be giving SH4 a try though based on the trailer. |
HOLE LEE SHAT!!!!
Just grabbed this out of a used bargain bin at my local EB, to hell with the election results, I cast my vote I am gonna go play this shit NOW!!! |
Dude it rocks, I'm up to the last area but haven't played it in a while, will have to finish it this weekend.
The game is truly terrifying but feels a lot different from the previous titles in the series. |
Dude... the game scares the bejesus outta me, i decided to stop playing it, totally freaky ass game, yea i don't need that shit, i gotta bad heart... or something
