Why would that change now, after all those 'suprerior' competitors came and went without any fuss? And remember, this isn't the sequel to the GBA. That's still in the works. The new system that will coincide with the N5 will very probably blow the PSP out of the water.

Indeed. Plus it plays all existing GBA games, so number of titles sure as hell ain't an issue.

i have also just been informed that the PSP will play movies........but not dvds. yeah, thats right. any movies that you want to watch have to be first put on one of those UMD discs. and as far as that goes i dont think we'll see anybody start selling movies like that.
and then i also found this article.... Quote:

Well, you can, but you need to buy the minidiscs for the movies. There's a movie watching thang for the GBA, so it's not a new innovation from Sony.

problems with the DS. THe guy in the video says "great 3-d engine, great 3d graphics", but lets face it, psp looks a thousand times better....anyways, also, who wants to play metroid with a stick? i mean, you point at the bad guy, and he dies, there is no aiming, just shove the stick in his face....its cool they have come up with new ideas, and i think the touch screen will be really cool and fun, but i dont want to play metroid prime with a stick, anyways, how do you jump if your left hand moves, and your right is holding the pointer? Psp has an analog stick, that sells me right there.

I'm sold on the DS. There's a few things I'm worried about on the PSP: size, the screen being scratchtastic, and battery life. Not to mention proprietary movie discs and such. The DS already has a library of GBA games, most importantly MY library of GBA games, and if it has backwards compatibility, also Flash GBA carts for all your retro NES gaming needs, too. Now if those emulator kids figure out a way to use the WiFi with some old NES games, that's pure hotness.

This is the kind of shot that scares the crap out of me with the PSP:
The main reason I love my GBA SP is the size. Grant it, the DS will be larger, but for integrated Wifi and the like, I know the size has to increase....But, this doesn't easily slip into my work bag. |

Well I have to say that both handhelds should be awesome... but I will have to agree that if the PSP's only advantage is its extra power, it is not going to last. The Gameboy has a ton of support for it... and thats not to say that the PSP is not going to be great but I think that relying on graphics alone will become its doom.
That said I will most likely buy both as soon as a good game comes out for it.

I have no plans on getting either one of them; I'm sure they'll both kick ass, but I'm not really a hand-held portable gamer. The only thing I really wanted to say was this: N64 was awesome, in my humble opinion, so the DS sounds good to me, plus it strikes me as more innovative.

but i did some searching of my own and found some. their is no doubt that the PSP is impressive. but i do have a concern. trying to show that much detail on a small screen will do wonders for the eyes. imagine playing Halo or Metroid Prime or GTA3 on a 9 inch screen. that would suck ass.....now half the size again. i know that my eyes would be killing me in not too long at all. what kind of movies is this thing (psp) going to play?
is it a proprietary format where movie studios are going to have to make a psp version of their film? is it going to have a pc interface to write files to it? divx? mpeg2? if sony thinks that people are going to buy movies that will only play on their psp... i think they're sorely mistaken. hopefully there is some way to watch the movies you already have by re-encoding them.

Fanboy comments aside, I think the PSP is definitely a superior console. No need to call me biased, look at the screenshots. Look at the specs. Look at the screen size. Look at the features. The only things that the DS excel in are the touchscreen, and the fact that games will run faster on cartriges than on the CD media that PSP uses. Nintendo also has its popular franchises to milk while the Sony/PSP doesn't really have any big name franchises to milk. I guess we'll see how it turns out after they're both out... I think nintendo will be safe as long as they keep releasing pokemons and remakes of old games that have already been made. |

Although its true that NDS is not an N64, it is considerably cheaper than PSP, plus it can be used as a palm type computer. Also, PSP will be MSRP $699 USD, and NDS MSRP $299. So now that you know the prices, you can decide again.

I wonder how one will be able to mod these systems. Those zany modders are always coming up with some insane methods
GBA is easy because you just make a 512 meg flash cart and store the ROMs on it. GameCube has the Phantasy Star exploit. These two systems will be interesting.. anyone know if the DS is a cart or a CD-based system?

I think they're both going to pnz and will probably buy both of them. I've always loved me some handheld gaming and I play my GBA almost everyday.
DS and PSP how I love thee let me count the ways. DS: 1.Touchscreen: Best idea ever. 2. Wireless onlineplay: I know PSP has this too but this is a big plus considering its coming from Nintendo. Does it mean they will be bringing some Gamecube games online too? I hope so. PSP: 1.Graphics: All I have to say is wow. 2. UMD: The DS cards are supposed to have a large capacity but they probably won't be as large as this. Conclusion: I want them both. |

Hmmmmmmmmm.
PS2 games on a little handheld, or on my HDTV? my buddy has a Sony handheld dvd player.. it barely gets through 2 average-length movies on full battery. And it doesnt have a cpu, graphic processor, or wireless connectivity Until I see some battery-life stats, and how many original titles it will have, DS plz
