Diablo II alternatives?

I really feel like playing a simple point and click RPG with not too much emphasis on the story. Just hack and slash. I know there's Sacred but I heard it was very buggy. Any other suggestions beside D2?

I haven't played it, but I've heard that Divine Divinity is alot like Diablo, and a very underrated game. I would imagine by now it would be a bargain bin game too, so it wouldn't cost you much to try it out.

Dungeon Siege, although it is a bit more hardware intensive.

Yep I have to agree that Dungeon Siege is just hack and slash - but it is great fun.
I have just completed Knights of the old republic and that is very good. But it is not a total brain dead hack / slash like DS.

Sacred. Yeah it's a bit buggy but they are releasing patches nearly every week to fix crap. And while it's a bit buggy, even the unpatched version of it is a great game to play.

Definitely recomend Dungeon Siege over Divine Divinity for simple hack and slash RPG.

Divine Divinity.. well... monsters don't respawn so too much time backtracking through empty areas to do quests. It's an OK game but for what you're craving I think Dungeon Siege will hit the spot.

In fact, what really interests me isnt the hack and slash per se, but the items hunting. ANY game of that genre NEEDS to have a good items hunting system. Keeping playing in the hopes of finding better items is the whole reason for D2's success and addictiveness.

I just bought Sacred this weekend and I am really liking it so far. It is true that it can be a little buggy, it doesnt seem to manage memory very well and gets choppy if you play it too long... I just take that as a sign to take a break and quit and come back.

To their credit they have patched it a number of times already and have a new patch coming in the next week or two which is supposed to fix alot of the problems.

i'd have to agree with people here that sacred is the closet game to D2 i have played

though it is very buggy
though ascaron is releasing lots of patches, so it should be good

if you do play i recommend a wood elf/dark elf currently, as they seem to be the most powerful characters atm, game needs some balancing heh

Well I much as I hate companies releasing games that aren't finished, Scared is pretty sweet. I don't know about naybody else but it seems to work better in single player over multiplayer?? Are your horses supposed to disappear after you save?? That always makes me mad! But still for a Diablo fan there is no better!
