Diablo II alternatives?

I really feel like playing a simple point and click RPG with not too much emphasis on the story. Just hack and slash. I know there's Sacred but I heard it was very buggy. Any other suggestions beside D2?

I haven't played it, but I've heard that Divine Divinity is alot like Diablo, and a very underrated game. I would imagine by now it would be a bargain bin game too, so it wouldn't cost you much to try it out.

Dungeon Siege, although it is a bit more hardware intensive.

Yep I have to agree that Dungeon Siege is just hack and slash - but it is great fun.
I have just completed Knights of the old republic and that is very good. But it is not a total brain dead hack / slash like DS.

Never winter night!!

Sacred. Yeah it's a bit buggy but they are releasing patches nearly every week to fix crap. And while it's a bit buggy, even the unpatched version of it is a great game to play.

Sacred
Dark Stone
Lionheart
NWN
Nox
Blade and Sward

and alot more

I dont reccomend Dark Stone,I bought that game and really didnt like it.Alot of emphasis on needing food etc..

Classes weren't really balanced either...oh well.

panbert 04-18-2004 05:56 PM

Definitely recomend Dungeon Siege over Divine Divinity for simple hack and slash RPG.

Divine Divinity.. well... monsters don't respawn so too much time backtracking through empty areas to do quests. It's an OK game but for what you're craving I think Dungeon Siege will hit the spot.

Orodinn 04-19-2004 10:37 AM

In fact, what really interests me isnt the hack and slash per se, but the items hunting. ANY game of that genre NEEDS to have a good items hunting system. Keeping playing in the hopes of finding better items is the whole reason for D2's success and addictiveness.

Throne of Darkness...think Diablo with Samurai..good shit

Sacred is incredible! Lil buggy, but still way worth it.

Buk 04-19-2004 02:28 PM

I just bought Sacred this weekend and I am really liking it so far. It is true that it can be a little buggy, it doesnt seem to manage memory very well and gets choppy if you play it too long... I just take that as a sign to take a break and quit and come back.

To their credit they have patched it a number of times already and have a new patch coming in the next week or two which is supposed to fix alot of the problems.

Dungeon siege for mindless action, or if you feel like an online twist thats brainless but strangely addictive try Muonline
www.muonline.com for more info :)

hellkite 04-19-2004 06:57 PM

i'd have to agree with people here that sacred is the closet game to D2 i have played

though it is very buggy :(
though ascaron is releasing lots of patches, so it should be good :)

if you do play i recommend a wood elf/dark elf currently, as they seem to be the most powerful characters atm, game needs some balancing heh

Buk 04-20-2004 12:39 AM

I'm playing a seraphim and its cool as well. Vampiress looks very cool.

cradeg 04-20-2004 01:19 AM

to sacred the patch 1.16 is out ... atleast in german

cas305 04-22-2004 01:35 PM

Well I much as I hate companies releasing games that aren't finished, Scared is pretty sweet. I don't know about naybody else but it seems to work better in single player over multiplayer?? Are your horses supposed to disappear after you save?? That always makes me mad! But still for a Diablo fan there is no better!

Orodinn 04-22-2004 09:23 PM

Yea, Im playing sacred right now too. Its pretty cool. The world is freakin huge!!!!
