Brothers in Arms Announced

http://www.brothersinarmsgame.com/pressrelease.asp

Quote:
UBISOFT AND GEARBOX BREAK INTO WWII GAMES MARKET WITH BROTHERS IN ARMS, A REVOLUTIONARY NEW MILITARY FRANCHISE

San Francisco, CA ? April 13, 2004 ? Ubisoft, one of the world?s largest video game publishers, today reinforces its strategy to dominate the war games market by announcing a long-term deal with award-winning developer Gearbox Software to publish a new military franchise: Brothers in Arms?. With its breakthrough squad-based combat mechanism and unprecedented realism, the first game in the series is poised to revolutionize the WWII genre when it ships on consoles and PC starting Holiday 2004.

?The WWII theme is one of the fastest growing segments of the military shooter market and we believe that Brothers in Arms is the ideal title to expand Ubisoft?s new catalog of war games,? said Yves Guillemot, CEO and President of Ubisoft. ?We were blown away by the immersive and realistic combat we experienced when playing this game and anybody who knows the reputation of Gearbox Software will understand the magnitude of this deal.?

Created by Texas-based Gearbox Software, Brothers in Arms is the most realistic and authentic WWII shooter ever. While other WWII games have sugarcoated the war experience, Brothers in Arms is based on a true story and will immerse gamers into the gritty, uncensored and emotionally-charged side of war. The game puts you in the shoes of Sgt. Matt Baker, a D-Day paratrooper squad leader, and asks you to lead the squad as you balance their lives with the success of the mission. The true stories and historical events you experience on your perilous journey take you through real battlefields meticulously recreated from aerial reconnaissance images, US Army Signal Corps photos and eye-witness accounts of war-torn Normandy. Players of all skill levels can battle their way through this intense experience because of Brothers in Arms innovative and accessible command and control system.

Now that just looks purdy. Me wanty!!

It does look VERY nice, but I'll honestly have to think twice for buying yet another WW2 game.

Hi,
Wow, that looks very good and very environmental, but why is it always about the Americans? For God's sake, let us play some more Russians or even British! And would it kill a company to develope a German FPS?
*sigh*
Thanks,
Manga

Have you played Call of Duty? If not, why the hell not?! You get to play as the ruskies in it and their missions prove to be the greatest of them all. I'd also like to play as a German but Political Correctedness would disallow that.

I wish some Canadian missions would be avaliable in these games, we were in these wars as well, playing as a German would be great, but like Mr.Deflok said Political correctness will never let that happen.

Poor Paul Martin, and they checked the speech and it had Normandy written down, he had a bad brain fart, at least Chretien knew history even if he was hard to understand.

Try out Freedom Fighters! It's post WW2 and the Russians won the war, now they've invaded the US! Great stuff.

I agree there needs to be some Canadian missions (hell we were a huge part of the Italian campaign and also played a big part in Europe) but I doubt any publisher would put it in a game. I hope this one has call of duty style gameplay, where you aren't Rambo destroying Nazi Germany single handedly. But the graphics are defiantly something to drool over.

Canadian Missions? Is that the one where you go hide in your igloo, cry about the US invading Iraq and then watch some hockey nite in Canada?

Sounds a lot nicer than being part of a country that is hated by 2/3's of the worlds population.

Alright you started it so many things to say so many mods to stop me, I will say this 1 thing and I am sorry grow the fuck up you ignorant piece of shit, my grandfather fought in WW2 you want to tell him he hid in an igloo I fuckin doubt it. I think it's the US crying about invading Iraq now unless you don't watch the news, I live in a house you ignorant (I'll edit myself), and we spell night like that not nite use a dictionary sometime, and like Mr.Deflok said:

thanks for defending my country against these ignorant (edit myself) it's much appreciated.

I wonder what would of been said if I said American missions could consist of unlawfully invading another country, dropping a bomb on 4 friendlies(Canadians), slaughtering a wedding party (Afghanistan), killing hundreds of thousands innocent civillians, forcing democracy down peoples throats could be another, then you could bomb a mosque and to top it off have a firefight in the holiest Shia city (Najaf), sounds like a hit game if it wasn't all real.

I agree that this game is going to have to have something special to get me to play it. And I think a game with a Nazi campaign would kick ass.

Hi,

Don't you talk to me about Call of Duty . I bought it the day it came out and played it to death. I agree, the Russian Missions beat all, but this is the only game in existence that I know of where you can play as Russians in a FPS game.
Quote:

If you want Canadian missions, do this:
1) Play any British missions in any game
2) Instead of British, pretend they're saying "Canadians"
Really, Canadians, as well as Australians, New Zealanders, and East Indians (to name a few) were almost identical in combat to the Brits. Canadians fought some separate missions, but for the rest they're about the same, which pretty much makes them boring to game developers' eyes.

PC? As long as there're no missions where you're part of an Einsatzgruppen massacring Polish Jews, I see no problem. The majority of troopers (perhaps Waffen SS aside) fought for much the same reasons as British, Russians, or Americans. That being for their country. I'd love to play a game as Germans and Germans alone, as IMO they are the most interesting part of WWII. Their weaponry and tactics were extremely unique and innovative, making them one of the best developed military powers of their time.

I always find it amusing that Americans played a relatively small role in WWII and yet they always get the glory in Movies and Games (both of which just happen to come from a majority of American creators ).
Thanks,
Manga

Hi,
If this game is as innovative as it is supposed to be, it'll be mighty fine. Look at this screenshot:

I can just imagine picking off Falschirmjäger Glider teams from afar .

If he was joking it was in bad taste, if he wasn't he deserved what he got, and I appologise to the rest of the board for my rant, but there are 2 things I don't take kindly to being bad mouthed, my family and my country.

Still can't wait to play this game, just got into BF Vietnam, and I like it, but structured missions would have been nice, instead of capture the flag.

here is a taste of how cool the game actually is:

you can command up to 6 guys

the combat is pretty tactical and very difficult so expect a challenge

the levels are as authentic as you can get without breaking gameplay

the game will have roughly 20 levels, each one has its own objectives

there is a wicked tactical view that lets you look from above and scope out the battlefield in a limited range

I hope you guys all buy it

edit : and its not "just another ww2 game" you get to command your guys and that is the key gameplay element(so you must do it well to progress thru the game, this is not some run and gun bullshit. ) also... sci-fi futuristic aliens etc have been done to DEATH, even more so than war games... I think I've said enough
