Duke Nukem Forever Soon?
I've never been a huge Duke fan but I have to say that I am looking forward to seeing DNF should it ever come out.
Well, I'm at Gamestop the other day looking through their scheduled release book and DNF had a date of June 30, 2003. Just another useless date or something more substantial? Guess we'll be finding out in a few weeks. |
Don't assume anything until the developer says it. :)
|
I've come to the conclusion Duke Nukem Forever is never coming out, its just a corporate plot to keep ppl waiting for the perfect game. What's the point behind all this? Its to drive all FPS die hards insane!!! Halo 2 and Unreal 4 will be out before Duke comes out. Anyone remember the Duke Nukem movie in the works since '98? ^_^
|
Maybe if they say it enough times, it will actually become true.
<I>"Duke Nukem will be coming out soon." "Duke Nukem will be coming out soon." "Duke Nukem will be coming out soon." "Duke Nukem will be coming out soon."</I> |
bah... I don't believe it
|
no.
when they're ready is such an anal reply. they act like they have gobs of money they can sit on....hahaha...RIGHT! I suggest you hone up your Half-Life skills and get ready for Half-Life 2. It'll kick Duke's "not yet here" ass anyway. juju |
Duke Nukem Forever is coming "When Its Done" and any release date you read anywhere except at www.3drealms.com is a load of shit.
Personally I'd love to see the game come out soon, but I'm not actively waiting for it. Thats just stupid and its the kind of thing that ends up infuriating people. My advice for everyone concerning games that aren't yet released, FORGET ABOUT THEM! Until a game comes out it means nothing, just enjoy the games that are out. If Duke Nukem Forever is an awesome game none of us will care about the years it took to develop. At least I won't, all I'm concerned with in games is how much fun they are. |
You'll just have to wait forever (damn that was clever!)
|
yea i wish they would get on their horse with this one......dont they want us to buy it or what? i love duke, always have, i think the attitude gives the game a great edge to it that you dont get with the more serious FPS, anywho i will be busy playing Half-Life 2 by then. MUHAHAHAHA!!!
|
i have a feeling that it will be a great game, but not worth waiting over 5 years for.

http://www.3drealms.com/duke4/dnf2600.html It's on their website so it must be true :D Yes, I know that this was an april fools joke but this was the last thing that they actually announced, besides it has already won wired's vaporware of the year award for 2 years running... http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,57023-3,00.html |
Actually that is true, Joe really made a 2600 DNF cartridge, not that their is much of a game to it, it just displays Duke's head but its still cool. :D

Tip, I know the feeling. Like the movies, had it not been for their showing their half completed wares months to years in advance, people wouldn't have to get all riled up. CDV Germany (big-time game publisher) has delayed Breed and Galaxy Andromeda to high heaven and essentially has alienated the fanbase for both. Delays, more delays, and falsetto anticipation will be death to the well informed.
Nothing like a stiff drink when I think of that too much. Oh, and about DNF. My friend has been waiting for it "forever". Then again, he was waiting for it's competitor, Epic's Prey. Hell if I remember what happened to that one. |
Even if it came out right now it would probably still be underwhelming, and not just graphically. I have a feeling half-life 2 and doom 3 are really going to raise the bar for scripted singleplayer games, and DNF will still be stuck back in the "FIND RED KEY TO OPEN RED DOOR" days.
Really makes you wonder what they've been working on for 5+ years....especially since an E3 video from '99 or '00 showed a pretty complete looking game. I don't know, smells like another daikatana to me. |
i dunno... You forget that Duke 3d was probably one of the most incredible games of all time. the levels of interaction were hitherto unseen in a fps, and lets not forget that it was 2.5d =)
Above and beyond all of that though, the game was incredibly fun. The sound effects, the comments by duke, the "real world" feel, the funky weaponry, the brilliant co-op and deathmatch multiplayer... just about the only bad thing i can remember is the auto-aiming. So what im getting at is, well, 3drealms know thier shit. (and yes, they are sitting on piles of money, they got a significant chunk of the profits from Max Payne). I have full faith that DNF will eventually come out and be incredible. heh, funny... the acronym for Duke Nuken Forever (DNF) is commonly used in racing/athletics for competitors who Did Not Finish (DNF) =) |
I started gaming with Duke and I'm tired of waiting.
If the game comes out I may not rush to buy it. |
It will come out right after TF2 does. ;)
Honestly, delaying and delaying and delaying projects like this is a really bad idea, and you would think that game makers would realize this after Daikatana. Daikatana was stalled for years and when it finally made it to the shelves, it was underwhelming compared to UT and Q3 which were out at the same time. If DNF comes out after Doom3 and HL2 are out, it will be just as doomed. |
I'm looking forward to it, but my interest is waning. The big thing for me will be to play the game without any prejudices. I find that when people over expect on something, they think it's crap no matter how good it is. I don't want that to happen with me and ANY of the games to be released in the near future.
|
I just hope when it does come out it will be on the Unreal Warefare engine and not the old UT engine.
DNF will have a over the top and don't take me seriously kind of game play whereas(sp?) HL2 and D3 will have a scare you shitless and try to stay alive style. I like to see DNF come out soon but at this point I just don't really care. /me waits for my pre-ordered HL2 |
Wait a second here, werent people laughing when they joked that the geforce 4 would be out before DNF? Don't even bother waiting for it. By the time they're done it'll be a 60 dollar game with 1998 sytle Unreal 1 graphics.
|
TFPers unite! I propose we make our own FPS entitled Duke Nuken: Forever. Sure, it might consist of no more than than a point and click adventure game, but it s better than screenshots of what may or may not be of a game made using a version of an engine made by the same people who support games with characters known as DN.
|
I'll believe DNF is coming out when it's installed and I'm playing it, not before.
|
CNN had an interesting story about the problems between 3DR and Take Two a few weeks ago. From the sounds of things, there's no chance we'll see DNF in 2003.
|
Yea, I've been hearing about Duke Nukem Forever since like 11th grade in high school, and that was over six years ago. The screenshots from then seemed amazing back then, but they're the same screenshots we've got to look at now, and now they look antiquated. It's a shame it's taking so long, since Duke Nukem 3D had such a great story and main character and overall immersibility into the game. The depth and interactivity was unsurpassed up to that point. Doom had started it all, Dark Forces showed what could be done, but it was Duke Nukem 3D that really peaked 2.5d gaming. However, Quake put an end to that limited FPS engine, and we haven't looked back since (ok, we had Shadow Warrior, but that paled next do Duke 3D).
If they rush to get Duke Nukem Whenever out the door just to make a game for the sake of having one, we'll get another Daikatana. Admittedly, Doom 3 and Half-Life, and even Deus Ex 2, are going to be impossible to beat if DNF is using an old Unreal or UT engine and Duke 3D's "find the key" and "find the secret switch that's impossible to find" outdated styles of gameplay. Games like Half-Life and Deus Ex have shown what the future of FPS are. |
Duke Nukem is SO going to be the next Daikatana
|
sorry to smash ur hope
but this will take forever (personally, i think they ll cancle the project eventually) |
All i'm asking for is a Duke game that you don't have to run on DOS is that too much to ask for?
|
bahaha
...vaporware and by the time it actually comes out it'll only have nostalgiac value for us geezers that remember the first 3 games (cause really, whose actually played manhattan project?) |
hahahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAH AAAH AHHA AHA HAHHAHAHAH A
coming OUT??? yeah as if... maybe when I finish grad school ... it was announced before I went to college... so it only makes sense... |
Lookup Vaporware in the dictionary and it says see Duke Nukerm Forever.

The fact that DNF will come out after HL2 and DoomIII is enough to call it a failure before it even comes out. I mean it's gonna have to be damn good to compete with those games. Either that or wait another year  |
just thought I would stop by to laugh some more... damn!
|
|
The demo was fun but way too short! just a week from Tuesday left!
|
It looked good to me.
I might be interested enough again to actually pick this up. I see it still has the t&a. ;) (watch the uncut clip on youtube) |
Once this ships.... what are we going to compare games with retardedly long development cycles? We're going to have to come up with a new paradigm.
|
The demo opens with you pissing into a urinal and then picking up logs outta shitters.
It's a CONSOLE port. This has nothing to do with the original development. You can carry a total of 2 weapons at a time, and it has quicktime events. It's beyond mediocre, it's confirmation that there is no god. If this is what you want out of a PC game I hope you die in a fire. |
