Easy, Normal or Difficult?
Which do you START on? Why? Why not the others?
I personally always start on normal, I play for a while and if I'm getting my ass handed to me, I play on easy and work my way up. I usually never start on hard, but if I beat normal and it was a fun game, then I go on to the next difficulty. |
Same here. I guess I just view myself as a "normal" guy..
|
ditto
|
easy....I like to feel superior mwahahaha
um, yeah, same here with the starting out with normal deal. |
Depends on the game...If it's got a complicated interface, or lots to track, I'll start easy until I get a feel for what I need to do, then crank up the difficulty. Battlefield, Warcraft, I put on easy till I had all the keys down, then went hard.
If it's a simpler game, I'll go with normal, unless I'm not chanllenged, then I'll crank up the dificulty again. |
Normal to start.
Then I switch to hard pretty quick. RTS's I almost always do on hard since the computer needs the cheat advantage. |
Seems like i'm in the majority also, 99% of the time I start on Normal.
|
Easy, then if it's too easy and I'm still early into the game, I'll quit and start on normal mode.
|
I haven't rented games in a while, but if I knew I was only going to have it for three days, I used to start on Easy then- that way I had a good chance of finishing it. On my own games, I always start on Normal. Rarely if ever will I try hard, even on replays- Viewtiful Joe is an exception.
|
Always start on normal, never play on easy.
|
Normal. If it's worth playing through again then i'll try hard.
Then, if it's HALO, i'll try it on the hardest level and give up by the third mission. |
Where is the "Bone Crushingly Hard" option?
I try and start on the hardest option possible myself... |
I always start with normal.
Its pretty stupid to start with easy cuz you'll lose interest in the game faster. same could apply to hard too. |
Always normal because thats what the developers intended for you to play.
Easy is just for people that sucks in video game. Hard for people that are looking for an challenge. |
pretty much what most have said here already.
i start on normal. then play again through on hard. |
Normal..hence its name
|
Easy, because I'm a pussy.
|
I play on normal at first to get a good meter of what the harder game would be like, then crank the bitch up.
|
Most of the time i start off with normal but every now and then when i get a rental i start on easy.
|
I usually start on easy to get the feel for the game , and maybe even beat it that way. If i am still interested when either of the two happens I will bump up the skill level until either I get my ass handed to me, or beat it boring.
|
Hard : because i (think) am a fucking hotshot :D
Unless with some games, where the (ultra) hard mode is used (ironically) to defeat the purpose of a challenge, and makes it absurdly difficult (enemies who hit with 100% accuracy, for example). Fortunately there isn't too much of that. Although most of the time you'll find that it's a relative thing, in which your own abilities/skills and risk taking will readily adapt to the given difficulty you've chosen. Although t's only a game afterall  |
I usually start on easy and most of the time that's just right for me. Don't know why, but as much as I love gaming I rarely get good at a game even if I find it fun enough to play a lot.
|
with rentals I go easy, unless I know it's a game where you don't get the full experience if you play on easy...that fucking pisses me off. so I bust out the walkthroughs for those types of rentals.
I usually just start out with normal and if the game has replay value, go back and do it with Hard. Like Resident Evil, MGS, some FPSs. |
It depends on the game. If it's a story-based game, I'll play on easy or normal because really I just want to get through the game. I never play a story-based game a second time though.
If it's something like UT or Quake with a multi-player mode, which I want to get good at, I'll start on normal or hard and progress to the higher levels as I learn the maps. |
Usually normal, unless there's a reason to play it in hard mode.
Sometimes games will give you different endings or secret options based on what difficulty level you complete it on.. usually I'll go through those again on hard mode. Other than that, unless I'm completely addicted to the game to the point where I WANT to lose or want loads more challenges, I stick with normal. |
I start the game on normal, just to see how well I can do it. If it is really easy, I will know that I am superior to most others that play the game. Then I go onto hard. Once I get my butt stomped in that, I go onto the easy mode to feel really godlike. Goddesslike. Whatever.
|
I would always go straight for normal. If the game is worthy of a repeat and the "hard" option is there, I would then play on hard mode.
|
Easy, because I'm a n00b gamer :p
|
i'll start on easy for a couple of levels or whatever depending on what i'm playing. then i'll just start over and get it on in normal mode.
it just helps let me get a feel for a game without worrying about the difficulty and such. |
Pretty much the same as the original poster, Normal to start and see how it goes.
|
Easy, then if I own everyone and get bored, start again and go to normal. Clock it, if I liked it, go back on hard.

I have a friend who starts games like Starcraft and Warcraft on Difficult so that when he can pick up strategies as quickly as possible for when he plays online.

Best of luck to ya :) |
Difficult, as long as saving the game is not completely disabled. Otherwise, I choose normal.
I find that I get alot more out of a game if I play hard. It takes longer to beat, and I get more into it as I progress. However, lately I have had very little time for any sort of gaming, so I've been sticking to Normal, at least in the last couple of games I've played. |
I tend to go with easy, only because I tend to get discouraged if I come up against a wall, then I might not play the game again.
|
Easy, most games does not allow me to change difficulty half way through the campaign. So if I get to a boss I can't beat. Then I will have to start all over again on easy.
|
Normal, because that's the difficulty the game was origianlly made for.. I only run difficult when I played through the game a couple of times in normal.

Easy because I suck at single player games...
I don't know what it is... but I really suck when playing against AI... in fact, I suck at pretty much everything but FPS's online too :( |
