Just a warning: Lineage 2 doesn't play on college networks. The lag is usually 10-30 seconds. The packets are unsigned, so college packet sniffing programs will create incredible lag while trying to play. If you're on a college campus, good luck, but it's probably gonna be unplayable.

Damn you university connection! It has severely hampered my online gameplaying. Thank God, I'll be moving off campus next year.
I'll give it a shot anyway, I'm always up to play open beta tests.

Well it's a beta so don’t expect a smooth polished product. There are ALLOT of people playing and if there are 20 or more people near you the lag goes to hell. The world seems almost too small for the population; there are often not enough mobs around to satisfy all the people hunting.
The game itself is alright…the character development is a bit to linear for my tastes. You cant distribute points towards you stats and you cant mix character classes. The interface is a bit challenging. The only hotkeys you got are the F## keys, another words you are always in chat mode. So you gota do everything with the mouse…the camera controls are decent but could be better. The combat system involves selecting a mob, then clicking on it again to attack or cast a spell. There are already quite a few NPC quests going. They are the usual “kill this number of monsters”, “deliver these items”, “find this guy” type of stuff but still nice to have I suppose. BTW, their login screen is bugged. Their server can only log a certain number of people at a time and when it's busy you dont get any kind of message so it seems like there was no conection attempt. Just keep hitting the "log in" button and you will get in eventually. |

What exactly bothers you about it? Lack of story, graphics, fair play? I'd like to hear more!

To me, it was just incredibly boring. Character customization options are extremely limited so you have a world of nearly identical people running around xp grinding in order to buy armor. There is not a significant amount of mob-dropped items so clicking madly to xp isn't rewarding other than to see your little xp meter go up. Lastly, the pvp system had might as well not exist -- it's that moronic of a concept.

To a degree I agree with seretogis, but the artwork is simply beautiful, and the gameplay will keep you interested for a fair amount of time.. That is, if they ever get the servers running long enough for a fair observation of the game!! The 3 servers they opened OB with were packed on sunday to the extent that a sub-game was created- "Login"... Frustrating. Once in the game, it was packed. Oh well, a beta is for testing, but they definitely should have opened OB with more servers.

Has anyone found any of the lag on college networks to be happening? I'm downloading the client right now to give the game a shot, but I'm on a college campus. I've been able to play EQ and Shadowbane on this network with no lag, so are the unsigned packets something unique to Lineage 2?

I've been playing it on and off since the start. The lag shouldnt be that bad if you have a decent system as i am under the minimum requirements ( p3 733 64 RAM, cable ) and i only hit lag when i enter a town though it can get quite severe at times.
Character customization is very limited. Basically every race has 2 genders and each gender has 2 starting classes , either fighter or mage. There's a very limited bank of body parts ( face, hair ) so dont expect to look original. All the same gender/race combinations look about the same. Graphics are quite nice. I play on the lowest quality and i still find them decent. The gameplay is meh. Kind of a tedious leveling treadmill with limited benefits as you dont even get to use stat points, they go up automatically meaning your hp/mp/stats are the same if your the same race/gender/class as someone else. The pvp system is fun i find though. If you pk someone your name becomes red and your classified as an 'outlaw'. Your not allowed in towns anymore etc etc. You have to either get killed a number of times when your outlawed or wear off the tag by killing monsters for a certain period of time. If you die as an outlaw, theres a big chance for you to drop items upon death so expect to be looted alot. Anyways thats about it... it'l keep ya occupied for a while. If you make an orc on the siegheardt server send me a tell at 'Hamedo' and we can group if im on. |

I agree with the character customization though. There is definitely not enough difference in the way each character looks. -Lasereth
