UT 2004, bought it today.

I caved and bought the CD-ROM version, as that was all I could find. I wish I had patience. lol. I wanted it on DVD, didn't care much about the headphones. But the game rocks. I like it a lot. Even the old 2003 maps seem better. (they are all included, that's why I had to install six CDs.) A whopping 6 GB install. Whoo-hoo!

tehblaed 03-16-2004 08:53 PM

Holy shit. I don't think I have 6 gigs to spare :/

Wyodiver33 03-16-2004 09:25 PM

Well, if you have UT 2003 installed, you can uninstall it, that frees up about 2.5 GB. Then install 2004.

Tetanus 03-16-2004 10:37 PM

I pre-ordered the DVD SE edition and it hasn't gotten here yet. Ah well.

Kllr Wolf 03-16-2004 10:37 PM

I am waitng for the DVD version. thank goodness i jsut installed a 120g HDD

EskimoDave 03-16-2004 11:04 PM

I knew I should have pre-ordered the SE. I'll buy it eventually. The Demo is still fun.

Vilkata 03-17-2004 12:02 AM

I pre-ordered the SE from bestbuy.com this morning for $30. They are out of stock now. I can't wait to play it. :D

KUGR 03-17-2004 02:32 AM

Mine should come via Fedex tomorrow :)

Too bad I am at school and it got shipped to my house :(:(:(

aarchaon 03-17-2004 05:00 AM

I'm waiting for my ADSL to be installed before I start downloading the demo. Fuck downloading a few hundred megs on a 56k connection. I still play the 2003 demo every couple of days.

Cardinal Syn 03-17-2004 06:25 AM

I just recently bought it as well. Picked up the CD-ROM on the 16th.

So far i am loving weapons play. I am normaly a huge instantgib fan. But thus far it reminds me still of 2k3 for the gib rifle.

Once again if you dont have over a gig of ram you will be screwed in the outside CTF maps. MY PC CHUGS with 2.8 512 ram and gefroce 4 card.

CTF reminds me of 2k3. Whihc i HATED..

ONS is quite fun with the right group of people.

DM- They have some really kick ass maps. LOVING IT!
TDM= same as DM.

LMS not many lms servers right now. But am a huge fan to.

Mutant is cool MOD as well.

I dont play the other mods.

Anyways it gets a 3 1/2 stars outa 5 from me!

Have fun playing. I normaly play as Cardinal_Syn or Judas_Kiss.

kutulu 03-17-2004 09:24 AM

I ordered Morrowind yesterday, I it will be a while till I go for UT04. 6 gigs? Damn that's a big game.

the_marq 03-17-2004 11:05 AM

I just got off the fone with EBGames here in Calgary. My SE is arriving at their store as we speak. I should have it installed as soon as I get home tonite...weeeeee!

I'll have to delete the demo and UT2K3 to shoehorn enuff HD space to fit this bad motorfinger in.

MEGAKILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have already discussed a TFP Clan?

denim 03-17-2004 12:59 PM

I've been playing the demo every night. Since I'm running a Mac, I can't get the final version yet. OTOH, the Mac version will only be available on DVD! Yes!

jujueye 03-17-2004 03:29 PM

I got lucky - a friend was on the list at Beast Buy, and they called him to say just 10 copies of the SE version were in. I flew over and bought his and mine. I'm with Wyodiver33, I really don't care much for the headset as at home I am using Sennheiser HD600 headphones. But having a DVD case instead of 6 fricking CDs will be nice.

I heard that most of the EB Games stores in town got the game yesterday instead of tomorrow, so they are sold out already on the SE version. Too bad.

The only thing that bugs me just a little is that if I remove the 2003 version, I won't be able to play on any 2003 servers. I suppose in a month it wont matter.

Can't wait to play some new Onslaught maps! What a cool game mode!

But seriously - I had to buy it:
$39.99, on sale for $29.99
$10 rebate on game if previous owner of 2003 version

Final cost: just $20 bucks. Damn straight. 6 gigs o' fun for $20 is really hard to beat.

I'm just installing the game right now as I type this; I think you are mistaken. I'm pretty sure I read someplace that you can play 2004 on the 2003 servers (maps and skins restricted of course). I'll confirm that in a few hours when I actually get the game installed...37 minutes so far.

Also, if anyone is intersted, the SE edition includes a DVD that has tutuorials to create stuff (levels, skins etc), and a video of the nerds at Epic talking about the game. So you if don't want those things don't pee your pants trying to get a hold of t he SE, tho the DVD install is way slicker than the 6CD route.

Finally, the $10 rebate everyone was talking about; it's only good in the USofA. Us Canucks get the shaft again, maybe we should have gone to Iraq after all. :)

kinsaj 03-17-2004 09:16 PM

Man... I'm so pissed at Best Buy.
They only got 30 copies... apparently they sold out in 10 minutes.
(This is all the DVD version)
I'm gonna check out Walmart tomorrow... I guess I'll pay the extra $10.

Bestbuy.com canceled my order because they over sold. :(

I'm gonna try my local Best Buy and Walmart today.

Destrox 03-18-2004 04:53 AM

Got my dvd in from fedex on weds, it comes in one of them metal box like covers, with a movie like dvd case. the headphones are actually to big for most anyones head, and are no comfortable.

But the game kicks as just like every other UT does.

Btw, its only 5.2 gig, not 6

"only"?

Hercules 03-18-2004 08:32 AM

Ohh yeah. Got my SE from fedex Tuesday morning. :D

the_marq 03-18-2004 09:02 AM

Great game. Can't say enough about the game play, however I have one complaint.

It takes FOREVER to load levels. The specs say min RAM is 128, recommended is 256. I have 512 and it still takes nearly 2 minutes to load a level.

The rest of my specs... Athlon 2500+ XP, GeForce 4200ti and so on.

What are the rest of you guys experiencing with load times? I have fiddled with the "Preload Skins" option and this doesn't seem to make a big difference.

Now, I'm considering going out and getting another 512MB of RAM, but I'd like to know if anyone else running a similar rig is experiencing the same sort of load delays.

Will a Gig of RAM sooth my pain or not?

Um, i dont have a gig of ram and i run everything super fine with no slow downs at 1600x1200. I have a P4 2.8 with hyper threading and 512 of pc4000 ram and a radeon 9800.

oh and to the_marq my load times are really fast under like a minute. Ram might help you though.

clavus 03-18-2004 12:26 PM

Just picked it up at Fry's. They have it in stock AND it's $10 off (not including the rebate). Sale ends today.

Wyodiver33 03-18-2004 06:01 PM

Well, I bought the DVD SE version today at compUSA. I'm selling my 6-cd version to a guy at work for $25. Lol. DVD rules. The headset is a bit weak. Oh well.

Krycheck 03-18-2004 09:37 PM

Does anyone know if the DVD version has a linux installer?

Wyodiver33 03-18-2004 10:06 PM

From the release notes, not officially supported.
That doesn't mean that you can't get it to work.

cas305 03-19-2004 07:55 AM

You better be fast because it probably won't last long.
