IO Interactive sold to Eidos
Here's the press release:
Today IO Interactive – the successful Danish company behind the globally selling Hitman and Freedom Fighters games - enters headlines in media round the globe. This morning it was announced, that IO Interactive takes a further step up the ladder in the international games industry. As of 31 March IO Interactive becomes part of Eidos plc, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software. Selling the company was a joint decision on the part of Nordisk Film (holding 40.3% shares) and the other owners of IO Interactive. ”The owners’ ambition has been for IO Interactive to play an even bigger role in an industry that is undergoing international consolidation into fewer but larger companies. It was logical, therefore, to further strengthen IO Interactive by moving closer to a global developer and publisher of electronic entertainment,” comments Kenneth D. Plummer, Managing Director of Nordisk Film. Nordisk Film will continue to be active in the electronic games market through its cooperation with Sony PlayStation and by investing in building up games and games development companies – latest in Pinkfloor. |
