RPG Games = PBM's ???

Has anyone experience about playing RPG's using just email?
A little bit like PBM-games.. So that everyone emails his actions and the DM (GM) then actually does (now that I think of it) a heck of a lot work and replies to everyone...

Does it work at all? A lot of work for the DM?

I used to play AD&D but now there's just not enough time to get everyone together, and it would be fun to try it again after almost 10 years... maybe via email?

Is this BTW the place to post about old fashioned RPGs or is it just for computer games?

I use 'play by message board'. My favorite site by far for this kind of thing is called Rondak's Portal (www.rondaksportal.com). It has tons of games available to apply for. Once you are in a game, you post messages on your game's own private message board instead of sending emails to everyone. Some DM's are better than others (I've had 2 just up and disappear one day, leaving the rest of us sitting there with a stalled game), but if you keep trying you'll find a good one.

The site looked interesting.. Lots to explore first to get a clue how it works. The original idea was that I, myself would be the DM and we would play by sending just regular email with friends. Back and forth... The site propably needs memberships and fees to be able to run your own game, or does it, do you know?

Costs nothing at all. I've been a member for at least a couple of years now. I've never run my own game, but I've never seen any indication that it costs money to do so. There's the typical "Donate via PayPal" link, but that's it.

Thanks!
I'm browsing through the portal now and it really looks great.
Maybe I should play first a game on my own and then try DMing..
