I remember the XP-5 microwave cannon from Crusader: No Regret.

In terms of weapons, they seemed to be scaled by intensity of grisly death. Well, there was the UV-8 ultraviolet gun with the "SPF infinity overdrive" remove skin setting, but the XP-5 had the all-in-one excessive-ness to it.

The coolest weapon in a game was the Gem in Castlevania SotN.

It finaly came into it's own in this installment. When the game first came out, everyone on my dorm floor would congregate in my room to take turns playing it, watching people play, and trash talking. No one could figure out why I kept insisting on keeping the Gem, until about a week in when my skills were finaly mastered. Soon, everyone was trying to catch up

I'll second that, wasting friends on the LAN was awesome with those, but they really burned through the ammo. The SPNKR kicked ass too, I loved the huge kick, whooshing noise and smoke trail it had, not to mention you could blow carcasses/people across the map with it. When I think about it, all of the weapons from Marathon are pretty good.

Half-Life's crowbar and rocket launcher are also favourites.

Slightly off topic, but my favourite multiplayer map of all time is 'Thunderdome' from Marathon 2, thanks for bringing back the memories hulk

The BFG 9000 was my first love, but getting real good lightsaber use in Jedi Outcast was a real kick. However, I absolutely love the dual Ballers in the Hitman games. Powerful and always there when you need them.

The Grenade Redeemer

It's a mutator for UT (1) that makes the redeemer spout out hundreds of grenades when it detonates. The game freezes for a half second, and then there's grenades everywhere.

Especially effective in Hall of Giants.
