Hm.. other than what has been previously mentioned:

The hyper blaster in Silent Hill
Great Knife in SH2
Bazooka/Tank in GTA 3/VC
Rocket Launcher in Resident Evil that lets you kill everything in 1 hit, even the last boss.

Ha, that great knife is a fuckin Buster Sword. Too bad James Sunderland is such a pussy. He could be a fuckin' bad ass with it, if he didn't just drag it around and take 5 seconds trying to hit an enemy with it.

The Leviathan's alternate fire in UT2004. Boomwhack.

Infernal 04-08-2004 05:17 PM

All the main character's weapon in all the Final Fantasy...

Confederate 04-08-2004 05:31 PM

CheeseButtons 04-08-2004 06:26 PM

Throwing knives in Deus Ex

iktoweya 04-09-2004 06:07 AM

zxello 04-09-2004 10:39 AM

THE TANK IN GTA:VC!!!!!!

bltzkriegmcanon 04-09-2004 10:44 AM

The C4 in Desert Combat. Actually, it's more effective than it is cool. I guess it's pretty damn cool if you like getting some major pwnage on people.

The Atlan Quest weapons in Asheron's Call...

it's been a few years and i might have missed a few steps but...

First you had to obtain 16 motes (a small unit of measurement) of pyreal (a magical gold metal).

Motes were obtained by defeating golems (of any type). If you killed 100 golem you might find one if you were lucky.

After obtaining 16 motes you were required to combind them all into 2 pyreal bars and take them to an NPC located far away inside the bottom of a volcano crater. It was a perilous journey for those of low level.

After reaching the sorceress Silencia and her pet magma golem, you had to purchase a weapon mold of your choosing (sword, unarmed weapon, staff, dagger, axe, etc).

Then you had to combind the pyreal bars with the weapon mold and a weapon skill check was performed. (this would determine the quality of your weapon).

You then took the complete mold and gave it to the pet magma golem who acted as a furnace kiln to complete a very unique looking badass weapon.

There were atleast two grades of weapon that I remember, a superior quality which was medium damage and a peerless quality which was high damage.

The Atlan weapons were no drop/no trade so that if you died the weapon would not be at risk of being left behind with your corpse and you could not give it away to just any player.

Another interesting aspect of Atlan weapon were the Atlan Stones. There were 8 kinds IIRC. These were magial elemental stones of fire, ice, electricity, and acid. Of these four types there were minor and major versions of the stones. The Atlan weapon had a slot in the hilt in which an Atlan stone could be placed thus adding extra elemental damage as well as a uniques sword animation. The fire stone added a flaming/smoking animation, acid added green bubbles, lightning added sparkler effect, and ice had snowflakes...

One the stone was placed it in the hilt it could only be removed with an Atlan tool which was another separate quest. In addition, everytime you removed a stone from the hilt there was a small chance that you could accidently break the stone.

Since certain creatures were susceptible to certain forms of damage, this was a very versatile and highly effective weapon. I think part of the "coolness" factor for me was that it had to be earned rather than given.

Arctic Warfare Magnum Police Model. Oh Yeah.

charlesesl 04-12-2004 05:58 PM

Gravity Gun from HL2 (I know the game is not our yet. But from the trailers, this guy looks really cool.)

Nancy 04-13-2004 05:44 AM

Squall's Lionheart from FFVIII or the shotgun in the Resident Evil games. It's so fun to blast off the Zombie heads :D

keef 04-15-2004 08:51 AM

anyone ever play requiem angel...if so you might remember the tri-barrel combat shotgun

Superbelt 04-16-2004 08:03 AM

Remote Mines from Goldeneye. Especially when you have the button combo to detonate them in mid-air and not have cycle back to the mines.

I have played many 3 v 1 games with my group of friends where I just manhandle them with mines.

Nothing better than them. It's the king of weapons. I wish all FPS's would adopt that weapon.

Dostoevsky 04-16-2004 05:48 PM

I like the number 8 (lightning gun) from quake.

flagpole 04-16-2004 06:57 PM

my standard pistol from deus ex after i had modded the crap out of it. i could kill anything with that thing

In_Stereo 04-17-2004 09:37 PM

Desert Eagle.

In counterstrike, rainbow six, whereever you can find one, i use it.

why, you ask?

1. half-inch bullets! half-inch! what the hell can't you kill with one of those
2. Loud. I like hearing a nice satisfying bang
3. oh how great the satisfaction blasting my rifle-toting opponent in the face while he futilly tries to hurt me with his puny bullets
4. every time i use one i am reminded of the quote from snatch

"... because it says 'replica' on the side of your gun, and desert eagle .50 on the side of mine..."

deagles rule.

Mr.Deflok 04-17-2004 10:48 PM

Sam Fisher's SC-20k owns me too.

-=shikamaru=- 04-18-2004 07:47 PM

Has anyone mentioned the chainsaw from Doom yet?

If you want to get old school, then nothing beats the chainsaw in terms of pure badass-ness. Xcept possibly the BFG 9000

Lasereth 04-18-2004 07:51 PM

The Vigoorian Flails in Ninja Gaiden!

RPD and M60 in Battlefield Vietnam make the list as well!

Gotta love the redeemer in UT, flyable nuke on :D

Can't forget Max Payne 2, where you can dualize them bitches.

Willy 04-19-2004 09:43 PM

Far Cry has the best sniper rifle ever. The machete is real good in it too, almost too good, feels silly to take out 3 guys with machine guns at once using a machete.

KellyC 04-20-2004 05:29 PM

This is an old game but..

NUKE in Star Craft and SC Broodwar.

2 nukes and the entire base is flat.

Wait! I take that back!

The Gauss Gun and Pulse Rifle in Fallout 2. Why? 95% chance to hit any friggin part of the body you want.

Fallout 2 also gets the "badass armor award" for the Advanced Power Armor MKII.

Oh yeah, and my Banshee in Vice City.

GeneralKruge 04-22-2004 08:00 PM

The flare gun from Blood. Shoot some poor bastid, and he shrieks a little- aw, too bad. But THEN he burst into flames and run around screaming in agony "OH IT BURNS IT BURNS AAAUGH MY EYYYEEES!!!"

So satisfying.

Strelich 04-23-2004 10:39 PM

I remember the XP-5 microwave cannon from Crusader: No Regret.

In terms of weapons, they seemed to be scaled by intensity of grisly death. Well, there was the UV-8 ultraviolet gun with the "SPF infinity overdrive" remove skin setting, but the XP-5 had the all-in-one excessive-ness to it.

flagpole 04-24-2004 06:05 PM

How about Halo itself? Power to exterminate all sentient life in one blast makes for a pretty badass weapon

Fremen 04-24-2004 08:24 PM

The air-pump from Dig-dug. ;)
The explosive shotgun shells and arrows from Turok2.
Links' boomerang from various games.
I liked the double Klobbs from Goldeneye and the silenced PP7.

zxello 04-24-2004 10:00 PM

Coconut Beans in Boy and His Blob

LeviticusMky 04-25-2004 12:56 PM

I would also vote for the BFG 9000, but with a correction...

The Acronym BFG actually stands for Big "Fun" Gun.

:)

gorilla 04-25-2004 12:56 PM

The BFG 9000, who doesnt love that gun!?
the glass shard from Manhunt... it gives me chills, actually most of the weapons in Manhunt do... ugh

Dizzet 04-26-2004 02:12 AM

Sam Fischers rifel in Splinter Cell... I just love weapons with so many functions..

Tusko 05-06-2004 07:44 PM

GTC Aeolus- Freespace 2

Pellaz 05-08-2004 01:28 PM

The coolest weapon in a game was the Gem in Castlevania SotN.

It finaly came into it's own in this installment. When the game first came out, everyone on my dorm floor would congregate in my room to take turns playing it, watching people play, and trash talking. No one could figure out why I kept insisting on keeping the Gem, until about a week in when my skills were finaly mastered. Soon, everyone was trying to catch up :D

Simple, powerful, elegant: Gem

Droolage.

I'll second that, wasting friends on the LAN was awesome with those, but they really burned through the ammo. The SPNKR kicked ass too, I loved the huge kick, whooshing noise and smoke trail it had, not to mention you could blow carcasses/people across the map with it. When I think about it, all of the weapons from Marathon are pretty good.

Half-Life's crowbar and rocket launcher are also favourites.

Slightly off topic, but my favourite multiplayer map of all time is 'Thunderdome' from Marathon 2, thanks for bringing back the memories hulk :)

ovr6ftall 05-11-2004 11:34 AM

Crowbar...Half-Life...nuff said.

striderkevin 05-11-2004 10:47 PM

1. Lightsaber from any Star Wars game
2. Strider Hiryu's cipher 'Falchion'
3. Raizan and Bishamon from the Onimusha series
4. I always thought the name 'Ragnarok' was cool for a weapon

MoonbatKillah 05-13-2004 07:35 AM

The BFG 9000 was my first love, but getting real good lightsaber use in Jedi Outcast was a real kick. However, I absolutely love the dual Ballers in the Hitman games. Powerful and always there when you need them.

GregsterGT 05-13-2004 06:46 PM

The Armageddon weapon from Worms Armageddon. Enough said.

urizenxvii 05-14-2004 01:23 PM

concrete donkey!!!

I can't help but value humor over deadliness...thus three nominees:

Ton Of Dirt

Yer Ripsaw

Sheep Strike

I want an ultima weapon just as a display piece. Make it out of like, glass and blue marble or something I guess.

Where's fire?

heccubusiv 05-16-2004 01:04 PM

the gat from unreal tournament... it can shoot a ton of rounds really fast but never overheats or jams

roadkill 05-16-2004 10:53 PM

The Jackhammer from PlanetSide

The Grenade Redeemer

It's a mutator for UT (1) that makes the redeemer spout out hundreds of grenades when it detonates. The game freezes for a half second, and then there's grenades everywhere.

Especially effective in Hall of Giants.

emmdubbs 05-26-2004 04:16 PM

i'm gonna have to say scorpions spear....then simon's whip
