Coolest Weapon in a Game
This question was raised in another forum that I frequent, so I was curious to see what other people had to say about this subject.
In my opinion, the coolest weapons were The Cerebral Bore from Turok 2 - nothin better than launching projectiles at dinosaurs that would latch onto their skull, drill into it, then explode. The Snark from Half-Life - throwing these off the tops of buildings at everything was good fun indeed. |
I'm still in favour of the orignal "Big Fuckin' Gun 9000" from Doom. Mostly cause it has a cool name, but also cause it was staight to the point.
Although in current games I would say my favourite is the Flak Cannon in the UT series. |
the disk in tron 2.0, its all around usefulness cant be beat.
but i love the sound of the wrench in opposing forces. another one was one that you couldnt use, it was being fired at you. the blaster rifle IG88 used in one of the jedi knights i think. the rate of fire was just scary, and even one hit would destroy anything |
lightsaber in jedi outcast or even KOTOR
their dueling actions were awesome |
Taishi Chi's weapons on Dynasty warriors 4, they are two giant stone clubs(closest word for them). They hurt so badly too.
|
i'm a big fan of sniper rifles.
halos sniper rifle comes to mind immediately. i guess for hand to hand or close range weapons i like the Python in Vice City, Goldbrand in Morrowind (although i never got a chance to create my own), and Lionheart (??) from FFVIII. |
Sniper Rifles...hmm I like the American Sniper from MOHAA. For closer battles I absolutely LOVE Halos shotgun..

Say it in the sleaziest, most sadistic way you can and you'll get a glimpse of what my Halo games are like. Love the shottie. Kills Flood dead. A close second would be Ivy's sword in Soul Caliber 2, especially when you pull off a throw from behind your opponent. Absolute bad-assness! Choke, you fucker! Choke! I need a more appealing outside life... |
I like Halo's Pistol. So very very powerful. :)
|
i have always loved the chainsaw in doom i went charging into many a battle with that gaspowered-death-machine:)
|
my faveroite has been the dual pistols in UT. I would get lot more kills with those over any other weapon.
|
Disc Launcher - Tribes 1 or 2. Hands down. :)
When combined with the Elf, its deadly. |
I'm going old-school.
The original C&C Ion Cannon |
Katana in Silent Hill
and The Lightsaber and any shotgun in any game thanks |
needler from halo, just plaing fun, feels great while shooting, and shits blows up dead.
|
Dual Beretta's-Payne
|
Man, the original WSTE-M Combat Shotguns from Marathon jizzed all over Halo's shottie. Double-barreled sawnoff shotguns, one in each hand, alternating fire. Packs more punch than a grenade. Clears a room of Pfhor faster than a fat man clears a pizza.
Droolage. |
The Ripper from Unreal Tournament, which shoots spinning razor discs. Creative and effective.
There's a mod for BF1942 called Wasteland 2042. Overall it kinda sucks, but it has a makeshift weapon about the size of a rocket launcher that shoots a bunch of rebar spikes. That's enjoyable too. |
the best weapon in any game is the one that captain olimar uses in his game. anyone not familiar with him, he is the spaceship commander in PIKMIN. how can u not love using small plantlike things with flowers on their heads to kill big chompy chomp things. if i had to choose a weapon going into a dogfight with halo or cloud or samus, i would go in with a pikmin in each hand! ya! (both yellow of course, so they could be holding bombs.)
|
Im trying to remember the game, its a giant robo anime style first person shooter. You spent half your time in a mech, the other running around on foot..
One of your "weapons" is a cat toy that you need to get some cat out of a cooling grate by squeezing it The real fun is when you're faced with civilians.. when you fire any weapon near a civilian they cringe and yell in terror.. even the cat toy (which makes a "MEZAVCLAW MEZAVCLAW MEZAVCLAW" sound when you "fire" it) much fun |

The RC-P90 from Goldeneye.
The Cerebral Bore from Turok 2. The Firestorm Cannon from Turok 2. The Laptop Gun from Perfect Dark. The Rocket Launcher in Halo. The Slayer Rocket Launcher in Perfect Dark (control the rocket in first person) The Flak Cannon in UT The PKM in Desert Combat The Assault Rifle in Desert Combat The Magsec 4 in Perfect Dark The gun in Perfect Dark that looked like it ate 2X4s as clips (can't remember name) Farsight XR-1 in Perfect Dark (Look through walls 'til the end of the level!!!) The BFG 9000 (no explanation needed) And who can forget the C4 in Battlefield 1942/Desert Combat Good times :) |
The enchanted gladius from Eternal Darkness was pretty badass, but my vote goes to:
The Vulcan cannon in Total Annihilation. A high-speed Big Bertha...gorgeous! |
The Redeemer (UT)
Lightsabers (all SW games) especially the saber-staff. For me, this is the biggest badass weapon all time. |
hmmm......
napalm launcher&dynamite from BLOOD (i love it when the cultists shout 'IT BURNS, IT BURNSSSSS' pitchfork-blood (squish squish) voodoo doll-blood (poke poke ,ur dead) sniper rifle(love the one in mohaa) +3 blessed rustproof magicbane from NETHACK :P lightsaber-offense and defence extreme |
I liked the screwdriver in Vice City, primal....
|
Do mechs themselves count as a weapon?
|
I too love the flak cannon in UT, dual pistols is also fun.
UT really has a lot of great weapons, I liked the razor gun too, was a blast to decap many enemies. Old skool though ? Would have to be the airhook in quake :) It was great to hang in a corner with the rocket launcher, or pull-frag, just a great tool more then a weapon I guess. My current favorite would have to be the Apache in BF1942 : DC :D |
The shrink-ray in Duke Nukem.
Shrink your opponent down, then squish him with your boot. |
I really like the crossbow from XIII, but mostly because of how gratifying head shots are in that game. Other than that, knives all the way... especially in XIII and in SoF. IN THA FACE
|
The gauntlet from Quake III. It's just too much fun.
|
Buriza-Do Kyanon
Balista from v1.08 diablo. +150-200% Enhanced Damage +2.5 Max damage per clvl Adds 32-196 cold damage, 8 Seconds Cold Length +100% Chance of Hit Piercing Target 80% Increased Attack Speed Hit Freezes Target +35 to Dexterity +75-150 Defense combined with guided arrow, add some sockets... oh baby |
Saberstaff (KOTOR and jedi Outcast) one badass weapon
|
How about the Enchanted Elephant Gun that shot Nitro Slugs in Eternal Darkness? Ha ha, everytime he shot it would shove him back. If you loaded and shot both barrels at once, it threw him on the floor. :)
Probably the Custom Shotgun in Resident Evil 2 as well. Most of the weapons in Desert Combat make the list. -Lasereth |
hane to add the little cute doll from a Q2 mod cant remember.
also the sawed off from action quake 2, it blew everything away. |
How about the:
Age of Empires 2 <b>Trebuchet </b> All castles will tremble. It has the coolest sound when firing… <img src="http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Feb/20042278174288427872080.jpg"> <img src="http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Feb/20042275963470613274890.jpg"> |
Going old school here...the spread gun for the original Contra (don't remember?...n you call yourself a gamer..pity).
The auto shotgun for Max Payne 2 cleared many a room Rikimaru's blade from Tenchu (pick any of the three) The snake-headed grappling hook used by Scorpion in Mortal Kombat (this does count as a weapon right?) The RVG minigun in Brute Force. Having dual mini's with Tex is quite fun The plastic bag in Manhunt. Its cool factor is questionable but there is a very disturbing joy derived from using it |
Ultima Weapon. (any of them really, they all rocked)
|
Spider mines in UT2k4
and The Land Shark gun in Armed and Dangerous. Name says it all :D |
This doesn't really count, but a friend of mine made a spaceship dogfighting game called "Orion" back in HS. One of the weapons you could arm your ship with was the "People Gun". You fired stick men (your own crew) at the enemy, it cost you some of your health, but it did more damage to your opponent.
Nothing says "You got served" like beating someone with the People gun. For games that everyone's played, I nominate the wind-up shoe from SMB3. |
spread gun from contra, but only in combination with rapid fire
the pulse rifle from UT with the green energy stream the Red Ryder LE BB gun from fallout 2 the AK-47 in CS the knife from Wolfenstein 3D the MP5SD from Rainbow 6 and, the Disc launcher from tribes 1/2 |
The shotgun in the Metal Slug games... Not just the wave of destruction it unleashes, but the announcer's voice too. He's usually kind of bland on weapon pick-ups, but when you walk over that big 'S' icon... "SHAAWTGUN !!" :D
|
the VAPOR cannon (ut2k3)
dual 'gangsta' style enforcers homing rounds from SuperC sniper rifle (halo) and the Concrete Donkey . |
crap, i forgot about the flyswatter from mario paint. there just isnt any other weapon in any game that compares to the rapid fly swatting techniques as that!!
|
Quote:
i also enjoy running down the street with that nasty chainsaw. |
My favorite weapon was the Blaster in Tribes 2.
It was probably the WORST weapon ever made in any game. And I was the only one I ever saw who used it effectively. Nothing better then seeing: "So-and-So was pinged to death by Mantus" when you kill some one. :D I hear they are replacing it with a shotgun in Tribes Vengence :( ...I hope they atleast keep the shocklance which comes in as my second favorite weapon. |
Funniest- The Ice/Freezing gun in Duke Nukem 3d... However, a close runner-up is the shrinking gun where you'd run up and step on the guy to kill him afterwards ;)
Best "real" gun - Kar98 from DoD... Oooooh baby that handles nicely Coolest - Lightsaber from Jedi Outkast2 (never played the 1st one). It was all right in single player, but when I played MP and you could do saber-only duels with people... That just brought a whole new level of deathmatch to me! |
Quote:
And what the hell are they thinking, removing the blaster? Blasphamy! Sickening to see a renegades based gun to be put into base! |
A couple of favorites:
Flamethrower from fallout. The first time you fire it and see the enemy dance around and burn. The Cannon from Serious Sam. A big cannon. Fun. |
The sheepinator from racthet and clank: going commando. nothing's more fun than turning your enemies into sheep
|
The F2000 from Splinter Cell (tweet, tweet, hiss...).
And hacking remote turrets in Deus Ex - then watching on camera as they get mowed down by their own weapons. But I'm just a sneak. |
Flak gun in UT
Sniper rifle and pistol in HALO normal shotgun in Doom II PP7, "D5K"(MP5), RCP 90, Moonraker in Goldeneye BAR in MOH Frontline (well the 20 round clip gets annoying, but other than that) |
Re: Coolest Weapon in a Game

Well barring those two I'd have to say the sniper rifle from 1942. I just find the sound of firing follwed by the bolt action reload sound really satisfying. |
I'm going with the classics...swords...the awesomest weapons ever.
Link's Master Sword- any Zelda Cloud's Buster Sword- FF VII |
Quote:
|
The armageddon off of the worms series. Nothing says uncertainty quite like it. Either that or the Holy Hand Grenade, which is cool because of the Monty Python reference.
|
The VooDoo Doll from Blood 2 always makes me smile.
As does the Concussion Rifle from Jedi Knight... Nothing like hitting someone with a condensed blast of air.. |
The stake-shooter from the Painkiller demo is mighty fun... boring a stake through the head of a zombie, pinning him to the wall... oh yeah.
Also, the World's Most Interesting Bomb from MDK made me laugh. A lot... |
steyr scout in cs
the ion painter in ut2k3 is really cool, not very practical though. and of course, saber weapons in Jedi Knight, rawk on \m/ |
gauss gun in syndicate
|
Quote:
The Topsy-Turvy bomb has it's own cool factor, though :) The Flamewall in Rise Of The Triad was rather effective as well. |
Catapolts from Age of Mythology
PPsH from Call of Duty Malotov Cocktails from Grand Theft Auto 2 Nail Gun from Quake Redeemer from Unreal Tournament Beretta from MAx Payne |
Translocator
nothing like a telefrag |
Shoot, I liked the huge hurkin' sword you got in the first N64 zelda game - nothing like packing a piece of steel as large as you are!
|
Remote mines goldeneye
|
Railgun in quake 2 multiplayer, but with some modifications that turned off the annoying trail and made the sound better. It was a lot of fun to tag people with it. Bip... you're dead. Bip... you too. ALL MUST SURRENDER TO THE PLASMA TRAIL!
|
fibre wire in hitman. nasty.
|
This is a tough question because there are so many great ones to choose from. A few that come to mind are the chainsaw in GTA: Vice City, Railgun from Quake, Remote Mines in Goldeneye, and tons of cool weapons in Diablo II.
However, in all my gaming, this is the best weapon ever: The Black Sword in Ultima VII, Part I Why you ask? Well first of all, you have to forge the weapon yourself, which was a pretty long task gathering everything. Secondly, you entrap a deamon inside of it so the sword can talk to you. Third, it is super powerfull, and last, it is the ONLY way (that I know of) to kill Lord British! What else could you want? |
All the guns in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. A personal favorite would have to be the Plasma Storm.
|
Quake III's railgun, because accuracy is well-rewarded.
|
Fly-by-wire rockets in Perfect Dark.
The purple spiked shell in Mario Kart. The Chronoscepter in Turok. The Shield Rod/Alucard Shield combo in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (so ridiculously overpowered, you can kill anything, even Dracula, in like 2 seconds.) |
Sephiroth's Masamune, Link's Master Sword, the Taser in Syphon Filter and Squall's Gunblade.
|
i liked the ff8 gunblades, i thought they cool!
|
red shells from Mario Kart, are always a classic.
|
The Guy Fawks Traitor Bomb from Armed and Dangerous(Just cause of the name), and the sniper rifle in Halo. Course, if you got a modded XBox so you can use the Halo Cashe editor, the assult rifle with fuel rod gun ammo is sweet. Call it the "Carpet Bomber"
|
I forgot about the Cyborg Ninja's sword in MGS. That thing's fuckin awesome.
|
i liked the rcp-90 or whatever from goldeneye, the pistol from halo, the laptop gun from perfect dark, and i love to play instagibs with the railgun on quake 3 :D
edit : corrected goldeney gun, i had like c3 - po or something, wtf :/ |
Half-Life: The Crowbar
haha |
Quote:
|
The Redeemer
|
Super Mario Bro's 3- the bear suit that lets you turn into a statue
Nintendo 64 James Bond- Assault Rifle, rcp30 Quake evolution or revolution?- Dont know the name but its like a mini gun but bigger( copper colored), you'll never find a gun sicker than that one.... |
I have to agree with the Armed & Dangerous crowd; the Land Shark is the funniest weapon I've ever seen.
The BFG 9000 has to have propz. One of my other favorites is the Strangelove version of the Redeemer for UT2K. Basically you rode the Redeemer a la Dr. Strangelove. Hilarious, and the fastest way to get from one end of the map to the other! |
|
The giggling proxy mines in Unreal Tournament were a winner for me. Perhaps not the best weapon in that game, but they were highly amusing. Such happy little things dancing and having a good ole time, just waiting for a passer-by to join the explosive cheer. :D

Some people have waaay too much time on their hands. |
Actually, in that case it's way too much money on their hands. The blacksmith probably doesn't give a damn what projects he works on so long as he gets paid.
|
Precision Rifle, from Red Faction, mmmmm, that's good murder.
|
nice !
Quote:
for fps the combat shotgun in requiem angel is pretty tight. |
the Rail Gun from doom3.. it takes skill to use that thing.
|

The Shirt, Final Fantasy
cuz...it's a shirt! you hold it up and it casts spells. Saves magic points and looks funny. |
The screw attack.
Oh, and the bear suit is called a Tanooki suit. |

|
The Panzerfaust in Wolfenstein ET.
Especially in the Helms Deep map. That Zelda sword is pretty cool, too. |
Lightsabre, hands down!
|
i was always partial to the Golden gun from Goldeneye.
also, fireplants from mario games were pretty cool. |
Got to go with RCP-90 from goldeneye and the AWP and AK-47 from Counterstrike.
|
link's sword in the a link to the past and in ocarina of time is bad-ass
|
Gunblade from FF8.
|
I like simon belmont's whip in super castlevania IV, because if you hold down the button you can flail it around in any direction and play around with it
