A question about PC games and processor speed

I have a P3 550MHz processor with 384Mb of RAM and a Power Color ATI 9200SE 128MB DDR AGP Video Card.

Are there any gamers out there that know if my old beater will even play games as memory intensive as a flight simulator? Or should I just forget about it and stick with solitare?

I wouldn't hold your breathe. That processor and videocard combo simply won't do it in today's games. It might run older simulators though, but definitely not the new ones. Well, I take that back -- it might run today's simulators, but it'll be way below anything considered playable.

Right on, do you think I would have a problem playing something like Rise Of Nations? Is it just flight sims that would bog my shit down? I know they are pretty tough for anything but the newest, fastest systems.

Rise of Nations might be alright. It's a real-time strategy, right? A friend of mine plays it on his old system and he says it runs fine.

yea its a real time strategy game. Do you how much if any my 128Mb DDR video card will make up for my slow processor speed and low memory? My mobo is maxed out with 3 128Mb cards. I have been in denial for quite some time now and I guess its catching up with me. I need a new computer.

Nope, the best video card in the world won't help that setup much.

I had a Duron 950 (oc'd 800), 512mb RAM, GeForce FX5200 Ultra 128mb. With BF1942, any time it got to over 15 or so people on a server I'd only get like 8-15 fps. Pretty much unplayable.

Upgraded to an Athlon 2700 w/ 1gig RAM and put the same video card in it. I have yet to see it drop below 50fps even with 40+ people playing.

I would not be sure about even RON. I had it on a 1Ghz Duron with 256 megs or RAM and GF3/2/32 meg Radeon and it did not perform that well. Could very well have been the GPU I do not remember what it was at the time it's switched so much.

Really if you want to play new games just throw down the couple hundred to overhaul your system. Or find older games.

you can also increase the size of your swap space to get a preformance boost.

and depending on your version of windows you can disbale some of the things that dont need to be running.

use google
