Planetside, Great Game!

ok so who plays planetside? VS? NC? TR?
Personally im TR. Terran Republic. im an infiltrator, that means im cloaked. its pretty awsome. This game is really fun. As you level up in rank you become better and more stratigic and it makes the game fun because you command lower officers. So who Plays? and What do you think of the game? Why do you like it?

The knock on Planetside has been why pay a monthly fee for a FPS when you could just as well play a plethora of other FPSs without the monthly fee.

I didn't pick up Planetside since I tend to play a game till I'm burned out then I won't play for a while. Pay to play would make me play even when I didn't want to just to get my money's worth.

Fun for a while, but it gets old after about a month. I used to play a few months ago and when I did I was an elmo. It's so fun flying a reaver.

I can't think of a video game that's more different every time you play.
Planetside limits your character to specific amount of abilities. In order to be able to do everything in the game, you have to switch between skills, or develope three or four different characters. Here are some examples of the different things you can do in the game.
air vehicle pilot, ground vehicle driver.
exo-suit for anti-air, anti-vehicle, or anti-infantry.
infantry for anti-air, anti-vehicle, or anti-infantry. You can also specialize for indoor, or outdoor.
specialty infantry for sniping, recon, infiltration, defense, supply, medical
Since it's currently not possible to have all the abilities, you have to collect a variety of players into your squad per play session. Since the squad leader and members are different from night to night, each night is a different experience.

The monthy fee covers server maintenance, gameplay upgrades (which have been good lately), bug fixes (which most other games take four years to get around to doing, if ever), and keeping cheaters out.
Also, I don't know any other FPS games that have 100 vs 100 vs 100 people battles every night. That's worth $12 a month to me, especially considering buying lunch costs $140 a month. Four bottles of booze (one per week) costs $160 a month.
$12 a month to play? No problem.

The devs don't talk a whole lot about what they are working on at the moment. That's true. Usually, the bug fixes and game balances come out ten minutes after they announce it publicly. But there have been plenty of them, and the game is much improved over when it came out just a few months ago. This game is huge! It takes time to get it right.
As far as skill goes, it all depends on what game you are comparing it against, and what weapon you use. There are a few weapons, that after three months of playing, I'm finally taking the time to test them out. And they are HARD to use, but very powerful. So, this is a matter of opinion really.

As far as the game getting old, I just haven't hit that point yet, or maybe I have more patience. Every time I get a little bored with one thing, there's always something else for me to try out.

I'm not trying to knock your opinions, but I can't see these arguements applying to this game.
So, I'm asking, what games do you play that satisfy your arguements against PlanetSide? If there's a better game, I want to know what it is, please.

Planetside was developed under SOE's brilliant "get-it-out-the-door-fast-and-fix-bugs-later-maybe" development policy, and it will be at least a year before 1) major bugs and gameplay issues are fixed, and 2) content and playability options promised years before will be actually availale.

I strongly suggest against purchasing any game developed under SOE. They care only about deadlines, not the level of functionality of the product they are pushing out the door. Vivendi is the same way, and tried to pressure Blizzard into adhering to strict timelines.

Got the install file for the 7 day trial, but I can't get the code from gamespy that you need to sign up. It says some bollocks about checking my security settings, but they're all set to default.

I bought it when it came out... I played for about a month and realized that it was crap. The premise is cool and all but its takes to long to do anything.Who wants to spend an hour just getting to a battle.

It's a pretty good game. I played during beta and cringed at the thought of paying a monthly service for a glorified FPS, but once you get into it you realise you get more entertainment and replay value then EverQuest.

I haven't actually played it but we get so many customers at work (EB Games) returning the game saying that they cannot connect online and that their CD Keys are invalid.

Looks quite neat though.

I played for awhile and in truth had a lot of fun. But it did lose it's appeal after awhile. I have to agree with everyone that paying
12$ a month just wasn't worth it anymore

This game is fun for the free month they give you (for me the fun lasted about 3 weeks). I cannot see how anybody would pay monthly for it.

I beta tested it since day 1 with my Outfit SMF. Let me say never once was it the same thing over and over. I was always doing new shit. The concept of the game is awesome, it's just the shit they did to it that made it bad. Compensating for the noobs making respawns longer etc. It used to be nonstop fun for hours with friends. I mean hell I had some good all nighters on that game.

Btw Vanguard owns.

They gutted it a couple months before the game came out.

No economy....means less to do.

No missions...means same shit over and over.

I played in beta from almost the start and it got boring after 2 weeks of the same crap. They need to add some new content such as a viable economy (which will not happen) or they need to add some stuff on all that water..

I don't mind the idea of paying monthy for a game that sports that many online players, but I am one of the lucky few who got the game and hasn't been able to play it since I did. Luckily I didn't pay for it (gamespot.com has a promotion for planetside where you can d/l for free and play for a free month, if you don't mind using your bandwidth for 1.3 gigs)

So, I played my first weekend of Planetside LAG!!!!!

Being a huge fan of Tribes, I like this game and what its trying to do. When there's no lag, which has been rare, the game is awesome. So much fun.

Game Highlights:
-being a tailgunner in a bomber while a fighter came up behind and tried to shoot us down. I got my first aerial kill.

- trying to defend a tower against several tanks and aircraft, the enemy had surrounded the whole base – it looked like the Alamo.

-just watching the whole battle from a ridge as tanks and gunships have at it. Real purty…

How has the lag been for everybody else? During major battles my computer froze up completely, or the lag was so bad I had to leave. I have a pretty high end system, with a cable modem, that has never lagged up on any other online games I play (HALO, RtCW, Call of Duty). Is there a way to make a better connection

Like Plan9 said.

We played for about the free month. It was a blast and i did have a great time playing. But it boring for a monthly pay game.

It is a fun game still to this date. If it were free i would play again.

Right now call of duty has my attention till WoW.

Ciao

BTW i played Vanu and NC

eh

think of planetside as a trial and error of things to come. sure it has alot of 'cool' features, but, there are alot of things that need dire help before ill pay a monthly fee to play it.
