The Freespace concept
Freespace 2 is my most favorite game of all time. Needless to say I also think its the best space sim game ever made. And part of this is due to the fact that in every battle, there are enormous powerful capital ships duking it out with each other. Not only is this a beautiful sight to see, but it also gives you a sence of imersion. I mean, in most action related games you are reminded that you are someone playing a game that requires you to gun down a bunch of objects controled by some dumpass AI, but Freespace eliminates this problem by making you feel truely insignificant.
I am wondering, why is this cocept not borrowed into other games, FPS for example. |
In freelancer you had a similar thing.. I remember duking it out in battles against huge capital ships.. But X^2 looks even better.. ;)

I have one question. How can a space game be a simulation?
|
lol.. never thought of that.. very true.. could be a simulation of what could be ;)
|
Its called a simulation because its "simulates" what it would be like to pilot a spacefighter. In the same way race car games are sims and Mechwarrior games are sims. They "Simulate" hence the titles
