I LOVE MY SP!!!

Don't make it obsolete already nintendo!!

Spaz007 02-05-2004 10:21 AM

They did this before with the Game n' Watch series back in the 80's. Like Oil Panic and it ruled back then I can't wait.

apparently sega is onboard, and there is a chance of one of the screens have "touch-screen) ability.

how cool would it be if the flash memory could be manufactured w/a large writeable portion? you could release an entire PDA OS on the card, with plenty of room to store all sorts of things.

my dream is that Nintendo will allow for a PC interface, and allow users to manipulate code on their computers Lego-Mindstorms style. Not likely, but i think it would take off.

The touchscreen is the most hopeful thing I've heard so far for this new product.

that mock up was great! I'm not to sure on the dual screen thing either.

Mastershredder 02-10-2004 12:59 PM

If that thing had a touch screen, it would be 10x cooler. Sooooo many possibilities... drool... :)

Gameboy + PDA = <3. You'd have a way to store all of your appointments so you'll remember them.... and then you'd allways be late anyway because you'd be too busy playing the latest FF Tactics. ^_^

No way, I want them to hurry up and obsolete the SP so that I can finally afford one. ;)

Maybe it will be a good feature, maybe not. It just depends on what games are made to be compatible with it, and how it is used.

But on another note, I guess I didn't realize there was such a difference between the GBA and the SP that made people upgrade to the SP. I personally hate the thing. Too small for me, and I feel like I am going to break it if I get too mad at a game. Plus, it doesn't come in pink!

Trust me, spend 10 minutes with an SP after trying to play any GBA game on the standard GBA and you'll be turned, and as for the pink colour? Yup, there is one, I think it was a limited edition version though.

That BS picture is gold!

irateplatypus 03-10-2004 10:59 PM

oh man, some of the new details seem very encouraging.

i hate to continually link to IGN, but they have been on top of it more than most other sites.

http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/497/497843p1.html

look at those processor specs! not bad at all for a handheld. the possibility of GBA compatibility is encouraging, not to mention the 802.11 backbone of its wireless hardware. i wonder how long the batteries will last while communicating like that?

i hope the button configuration is similar to the SNES (addition of X and Y keys), i felt that was sorely lacking from the GBA layout.

can't wait till e3.

(i'm 22 years old and i still have streaks of fanboy in me.) :)

irateplatypus, thank you!!!

Wow, one of the screens is touch-sensitive! I wonder how they'll make that durable for little kids and easy to clean.

Electronic Gaming Monthly reports that the dual screens will be on top of each other vertically instead of beside each other. I'm guessing it'll have a similar layout to the GBA SP but with a bigger base.

I don't see how having a touch screen on your lcd would be useful at all. What could you do with your finger smudging up the screen that you couldn't do with a few flicks of your thumb?

BTW, there are pda like programs you can put on your advance or SP. They have a flash memory cartridge that fits the gba and allows you to run all kinds of things from snes games to address books. Do a search on google for mod chips and you can find a bunch.

To me, this dual screen idea seems like something that might be interesting, but right now I'm very content with my SP and don't want to throw another 100+ on the next portable system for at least a few years. Maybe nintendo should move up the release date and improve on their current project so that they can have a true contender for the psp.

The sad part is that the DS isn't the next Gameboy. Nintendo is releasing the next Gameboy possibly at the end of this year (I highly doubt it). The DS is just a side project, probably to try and amaze gamers into buying it instead of the PSP. Yep, there's a possibility that THREE new handheld gaming systems will come out this year. What the hell is wrong with the SP? I'm still playing it more than my PS2/XBox/Gamecube!!
