Gamecube Controller issues
 

I have a gamecube I bought about a month of so ago...just recently it has started to lag to the right. I don't know if its the controller or if its the gamecube itself, but I switched out the controller to one of hte madcatz one and it also doing the same thing.
Anyone have any idea?

Make sure the controller stick isn't turned in any direction when you turn the system on. A known problem that first started with the PS1 and N64 was the controller calibration. If you turn the control stick in any direction and then turn the console on, the controller is then calibrated to be centered wherever you're pointing the stick. In other words, some games would get hung on constantly turning right like you're saying.

My PS2 has this problem, but it's not calibration. I simply turn the control stick to the left really hard and it gets centered back in the middle. It seems more like a calibration issue if both controllers are doing it though!

My g/f's brothers gamecube controllers both got crapped out because they seem to, after awhile of use, become lose and therefor the calibration is off. What we had to do until he got new controllers was hold the stick to where we thought the new center would be and then turn it on.

weird, i've never heard of this issue before, and my controller is fine after 1.5 years of use. How often are you playing the game?/ is the game itself playing slow, or just the conroller's calibration is off?

I have 2 controllers, one that's had fairly gentle use for a year, and one that got the crap bashed out of it within a week of my sister playing it =S. The controllers generally last a long time if you're gentle, but if you get rough they die pretty easily. The only thing I can think of for your problem, sub zero, is that you're holding the stick off-center. Does it do the same thing in the other sockets? If not, you might have a faulty 'cube.

The gameplay is fine except for that...and I'm having that trouble in other games too..so for sure its a hardware problem I think. So turning it off and on in the center recalibrates it then?

You can also hold down X, Y, and Start for three seconds (without touching the stick) to recalibrate it. Haven't had this problem yet with my Cubey, but it happened all the time with my N64 (L,R & Start:D ).

The problem is probably an issue with the controller. Easily fixed, just like most everyone has mentioned.

That being said. Are you using an extension between the system and the controller? I had a problem like this and it turned out to be the extension that I was using and not the actual controller itself.

one of my friend insists on throwing my wavebird wireless one off to the side or on the floor when hes done playing.. its really fucking pissing me off

You should take away his wavebird rights and relegate him to a wired controller. Or you could just tell him that it bothers you and you want him to respect your property. If he gets all uppity about it, he sucks, and you shouldn't be friends with him any more. Don't put up with bullshit behavior.

I am using an extension cord but actually the problem got worse when I took it off. I'm thinking I just might return it. I do play alot of games...but I don't think it should be that yet...hasn't even been two months yet :-/

sub zero, you cant take it back.. it's the controller.. just plug a new one in and see if that helps.
Dont take the console back because you made a ill titted purchase. (well, if you bought it that is..)

madcatz micro controller is prolly one of the best of the times; it reminds me of the old nes max. its very comfie (if you like small controllers) and ive seen it for 10 bux at hollywood video.

This happened to me a couple of days ago. My analog became uncalibrated and was sticking down. It just kept cycling through the options screen. I simply turned it off and turned it back on without touching the controller. I'll have to remember that X, Y, START thing.

X + Y + Start = The end of my frequent problems. Thanks.

Xbox controllers do this too.. every once and awhile you list to the right on my friend's controller

You guys keep giving him the same advice...and it doesn't seem to be working. He also mentioned that he's tried a different controller (in the very first post). That hints to me that the problem might not be controller related.

sub zero, it almost sounds like your problem might be with the box itself. One last test would be to see if plugging the controllers into other GCs causes the same problem. If the problem turns out to be the box, I'd recommend that you try having it replaced.
