Yeah, cause you know this is the first PC game ever that didn't run the way it was supposed to for some people right out of the box. It's unbelievable isn't it?

Atomsk 12-08-2003 11:43 PM

LOL no doubt. oh well there was always a chance things could have worked out. i guess there is a patch due out here any day thats supposed to redeem the game. but we'll see in the end.

Heh, sarcasm is the lowest form of humour =D. But still, Ion Storm have fucked up this one pretty badly, no?

John Romero made your frame-rate his bitch!

Lasereth 12-09-2003 08:54 AM

I don't understand what the big deal is! This game is getting great reviews from everywhere I read. IGN mentioned that it does slow down on the editor's PC, but he also mentioned he was using a 32 MB videocard. What do you expect? 64 MB cards are $70-$100 these days for the absolute best that still play all of today's games. My GeForce 4 TI4200 is about $80 now, and it plays the Half-Life 2 cinema benchmark VERY well.

Performance issues aside, everything else about this game is supposed to be superb. I heard a few complaints about the skill system being taken out since the first one and the absence of different kinds of bullets.

What computers are you guys trying to run it on? Ya can't say a game sucks simply because there's performance issues on some computers. Maybe the computer is old and needs upgrading if it won't play it.

Lestat 12-09-2003 10:30 AM

I heard from another forum, that the game is only 15 hours long.

The Resident Evil games are usually 7-10 hours long. Silent Hill games are about the same thing. Hell, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 are both about 7-15 hours the first time you play them through. Length doesn't mean a whole lot. If the game delivers a great story and has great gameplay, then it's worth it if ya ask me.

NeverBorn 12-09-2003 12:47 PM

With Deus its ALL ABOUT THE STORY..everything else is just filler

nothingx 12-09-2003 04:22 PM

Much to my disappointment my machine just can't hack Deus Ex 2. I played long enought to realize it would be unbearable to go any further and put it down. With Christmas around the corner I should be able to score some upgrades to make it playable.

Lies all lies about it running good on a 32 meg card. the good reviews are coming from xbox consoles. the pc version is a horrible hodge podge of last minute crap. even the developers are crying about how the pc version was forced to the wayside to make more time for the xbox version because of Micro$oft money and pr people who were leaning on the dev team to make their version perfect. they didn't have time to finish the PC version. i've got a bitchen computer and graphics card WAY over recommended specs and it runs like crap. as i said earlier it only runs better with certain tweiks applied

Interesting...because the first Deus Ex was also a resource HOG...too bad you have to wait for a year before you can enjoy the game in full detail, when technology catches up.

yeah i remember that. but it was damn good i only had a few problems with it since i'm usually on the cutting edge. but this is rediculous LOL. oh well remember to put the .exe in windows 2000 compatability mode and you'll get quite a performance increase. if anyone needs help just PM me. i'll tell you what i've figured out so far.

hu-man 12-11-2003 05:07 AM

I'd love to hear what you tweaked to get your DX2 to work well.
I just upgraded my computer and first thing I installed was DX2 (after WinXP of course) -
P4 2.6 - 800MHz FSB
1 gig of 3200 Corsair RAM
120 GB Seagate Barracuda, SATA

And I can run the damn thing at 800x600 - and it's pretty jerky.
I read a thread somewhere and changed the fonts to smaller ones, and moved the HUD out to the sides. Are there things you can do to increase the framerate? I'd love to hear if so.
(I also PMed Atomsk about this, but thought other people would like to know as well)

... i you like a game, cool. if you hate a game, cool.

My favourite arguement is "You can't spell Ignorant without Ign!", quite funny but completely untrue, reviews are a popular base of opinion, simple as that, and opinions are never wrong.

Laladien 12-12-2003 10:35 PM

I enjoyed it, but it pales in comarison to the original... especially when it comes down to game time...

10 hours versus 30+...

Still, it is a lot of fun!

nukeu666 12-31-2003 11:30 AM

Deus Ex 2

has this topic been made yet?
if not.....

how is it?
i've just started playing it and im forced to run it at 640x480 at low gfx on my gf3 :(
1st game i've had to do that in....even halo ran at 800x600

the cutscenes are good...
hopefully weapons ahead are also cool....

Lasereth 12-31-2003 12:22 PM

Yeah, there's already a thread on it: http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....threadid=36044

A few members there had fixes that made the game run better; I'd check it out! It got good reviews. I've never played the first one, so I probably won't check out this one either. It still looks damn cool though!

I have the game but cant play it. for some resaon it wont even start up. it always crashes before I even get a logo screeen. Due to the fact I have tried it on several systems that exceed the recommended specs for everything, I am not impressed with it. I have even tried the patch for it and the other suggestions their website has. If I cant get it to work soon the disc will be coasters

What video card are you using? I've heard some people are having problems because the kind of video card they are using doesn't support "shading" or some other features.

Mr.Deflok 12-31-2003 03:40 PM

The GeForce 4 MX series isn't supported I believe, or that may be Prince of Persia I'm thinking of...

Dilbert1234567 01-01-2004 01:12 AM

i did not like it i could not make it out of the first room due to frame rate issues. 2 FPS is not playable

P4B 2.53 @ 2.849
Radeon 9800 pro 256mb

i dont know waht the problem was but i gave up.

Destrox 01-01-2004 05:50 AM

It ran like a peice of shit sliding down a wall on a outhouse.

This was one of the last 2 years worse port ever made, they barely even did anything to make it suitible for a PC from the Xbox.

isnt that supposed to be good?

Lokus 01-01-2004 01:13 PM

Well, I'm pretty sure the shit would run down the wall fairly slowly. Unless of course it was more diarrhea but then you would have had some trouble throwing it against the wall in the first place.

My recommendations are to turn down the shadows and lighting. Those two items cause major FPS hits. The menu for the video options is kind of strange too. When you exit, it only saves the changes you made on the page you were on. So if you tone down the model detail on page two and then go back to page 1 and change the resolution then save, it'll only save the changes on page 1. That really threw me off. Hooray for menus designed for consoles!

Yes if they would have made the PC version first and then dumbed it down for the X-box instead of porting it to PC from the X-Box alot of the game's problems would've been non-existant.

NeverBorn 01-01-2004 09:09 PM

so buy an x-box and play it there..

An FPS without a mouse? MADNESS! lol

Truth be told, the X-box version will be the better option despite it's controls.

Kllr Wolf 01-02-2004 01:02 AM

The syatem I want it to work on the most, which is my gaming machine, is as follows:

AMD 2800+ Barton
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
1.5 gig ddr 400
Soundblaster Audigy 2 platnium
Gainward Ti 4800 ultra gold
2 maxtor 120gig hdd with 8 meg cache
CD burner
DVD burner

the strange thing is that I can run HALO and all my other games with everything maxed out without a single problem. I would love to try the game, but so far that doesnt look like it will happen.

NeverBorn 01-03-2004 02:18 PM

I'm willing to sacrifice to mouse for better peformance (besides after playing so much Halo you get used to the FPS console controls) and they're really not that bad. They respound well IMHO anyways

Kllr Wolf 01-03-2004 08:28 PM

wee finally found a hidden icon in the games system folder that allowed it to work (after putting it into 2000 compatability mode. It now works perfectly fine with everything cranked up. My question is that for such an advanced game why does it start with a crappy resoution?

a_divine_martyr 01-04-2004 01:40 PM

so those without a new video card can get soem decent FPS?

BuddyHawks 01-04-2004 02:47 PM

I have a respectable system, however I couldn't get the game to run smooth. so I didn't play it. I'll bet it's fun though

homesar83 01-15-2004 09:53 PM

Dx1>Dx2, however, I still liked having more DX to play. Personally, I'd like to see the game redeemed in a third installment.
