GTA1 for free! (legal too!)
I'm really impressed.
Rockstar games, has placed GTA1 for free download on thier website (~320 megs, full version) great old game. if it runs too choppily on yours, turn off frame limiter (F8) and try it then. atm its running too fast on mine, so im gonna have to see if theres some way to slow it down. [ EDIT ]: After trawling through some forums, i found the answer to it running too fast. What you have to do is turn sound acceleration off (in Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia -> Advanced) and leave the frame limiter on. that seems to make it quite playable. enjoy :D [ /EDIT] anyway, without any further ado, heres the url: http://www.rockstargames.com/classics/ you have to register and they email you the link to download it. have fun! =) |
I remember getting GTA for free a few years back. There was some website where you could download it in parts for free legally. You can also play the original sim city for free at maxis.com Maybe the music industry could take a few cues from the game industry.

man... DMA/R*N have always had some kicking ideas....
GTA1 was a blast multiplayer.. I remember spending all this cash to set up a 10-base T network to play it and quake multiplayer

thanks.. i'll have to set this up at the office :) w00t!
Thanks for the link as well. Glad to see this is happening on games released after 1985.
kewl thanks
Here is a question. I noticed on the site it mentions Rockstar games and Rockstar north. What is that? Blizzard also has a setup like that. What is the difference? Someone want to explain that one to me
I just got this thing downloaded. Does this run SUPER slow for anyone else?
sweet
"RockStar North" is the scottish wing of RockStar, who were formely DMA design of lemmings fame.
When will they put GTA2 like this?
That game fucking rocked. But at least we can enjoy GTA, for now. :) |
Whoa! Cool! Thanks!
Sigh, still 40 minutes left in the download... |
They claimed it was changed and tweaked for modern os's but its exactly the same as my old cd version. :(
Nice gesture though. |
I just gave the creators of the GTA games my home address. I hope I never make anyone there angry.

Mine still runs like crap? Anyone else have this? I get literally 5 to 6 fps. I run GTA3 on the highest settings and it runs smooth as silk.
Thanks for posting this link! But now you got me addicted to GTA again...hehehe..man we used to spend hours playing multiplayer at work, I can see it happening again!
Bandwith... not enough...bandwith... can't download... not enough... fuck!
and thank you... I will eventually get this damn it! |
1. GTAINSTALLER.ZIP: Either multipart or corrupt ZIP archive
2. Cannot execute "GTAINSTALLER.exe" ....my total lack of computer know-how makes this so much more aggravating... sonsabitches!! |
GTA London, on the PSX, was my favourite of the series. Great story lines and very funny. Would love to see a 3D version (not Getaway, which sucks). The whole 60's Mod thing rules. The PC version makes the old PSX seem totally crap now.
lol, how classic. I used to rock GTA when I was younger. Funny thing is that I'm yet to play GTA 3 at all, or even see it! I hear its come a long long way
I cannot get the GTA Settings to open. It says that DINPUT8.dll could not be found. Can anyone help?
i remember dling gta 2 for free, LEGALLY from the net.
it was www.freeloader.com i dont know if they still offer it |
