Mod chips for PS2

There seems to be a lot of different chips on the market. What is considered the best mod chip to get for the PS2 is you want to play all games, including games that you have made back-up copies of on DVD-R media?

I heard the Messiah was great, but I kinda fell out of the modchip scene when I soldered a wire wrong and it fried my system. I'd like to know if there's any good disc-switching ones that don't require soldering.
