How do you burn...
PS2 games? Is it even possible? I have some games I really like that I want to burn to keep them safe. Sometimes my games get scratched up and stop workikng, so i was wondering if this was possible. I heard there was some computer program you can buy, but thought you guys might know.

You'd need a DVD Burner but that's all the information I'll be willing to give you as this thread will easily turn into a thread concerning illegal activities.

yeeeah, im thinking this threads gonna be locked soon
so walk lightly fellas.. The best advice i can give you for protecting ps2 games is to make an image of it on your pc and archive.. Also keep a dvd cleaner nearby, and take better care of your stuff If your ps2 is about 2 years old, it might not be your games, it might be the system. PS2?..Piece of junk is more like it :) |
the ps2 is kind of an enigma to me. it is 'a wonder console' that kicks ass... but it breaks quick. if your is two years old, i'd seriously suggest checkingon a new one.
backing up games is a good idea...... don't go to the dark side, man. stealing shit is just uncool. (i feel like mr mackey, mmmkay?) |
If you have a newer PS2 I don't believe there is any way to make copies of PS2 games even for back-up reasons. You'll get a msg that says it can't play your disc. My understanding is Sony included a new encryption technology in the last generation of PS2s that was released.
Now also considering Sony is talking about selling the PS2 in China now(China is know for high traffic of pirated games.) That said, the odds of someone having a working PS2 game on a non-PS2 disc looks extremely unlikely, especially on the DVD based games. And there is a pc program that says it allows you to copy PS2 games but i'm not sure I'm allowed to give the name of that program... |
As far as back ups! for PS2 are concerned. There are things called MOD chips(20-50 dollars) that are either soldered on or screwed into place within the console-Thus voiding out the warrenty..having said that Whats next. Well, once the MOD chip is in place, they give you the ability, if done properly, to make a backup copy. This copy will work only your machine, and on those who also have installed the MOD chip in there machines.
As far as burning a PS2 disc itself, Software :NERO 6 Ultra , and ALCOHOL120% can do that with minimal fuss, actually super easy, alcohol being the best... I tested it on a Sony drx-120L and worked great, but as said before, without the MODchip its useless. Do some research, all the other info is out there. Good luck |
Yes, i back up ps2 games. I have a boot disc that allows me to play backed up games. Its great, and ive only see it not work on one game, Silent Hill 3, for whatever reason it keeps loading the game,

ok i want to be careful here.... as to not say anything that would be taken with too much thought into it, another thing that people have to consider, is that many of the games have certain base sizes, meaning if ur burning a cd game u need a cd disc with appropriate space... not that many 650 mb cds are still out there. secondly if you must make a backup of your dvd games, and dont have a dvd burner you will need to find a way to downsample, if not remove the video. This in itself is a waste, my advice eb or gamestop has games at el cheapo prices, get an additional copy if your so worried about it. Imagine playing MGS2 without the vids.... useless. Those are my 2 cents. Just shell out the extra cash for the original
