Anyone heard anything on Final Fantasy Online? Supposedly it's fairly good.. It's only been out 3 days or so, but I've not heard anything really negative.
|
There's a thread that recommends MMORPGs around here somewhere. Dig down a page or two and it gives like 9,000 opinions on which MMORPG is the best. I've heard good things from all of them, so it's really just personal choice. I'd go with FFXI right now, but that's just me. I'm waiting for World of Warcraft which will come out in 2010. :)
-Lasereth |
yeah wow is taken forever to come out. Hopeful its cuz they are making it good -p and not cuz they suck. Personaly i liked blizzards former games but i dont know if they can do the whole MMRPG. Yes they did on diablo but wow is going to be a little diffrent i hope.
|
I'm just waiting to see how EQ 2 is when it finally makes it to the shelves. I'm sitting on Horizons right now as a settling point until then.
|
I just got done playing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I played it for pc, which I would not recommend to anybody here. The amount of frustration connected with using a WASD setup and trying to do the moves and time them right is just too damn hard for the game to be anywhere near as enjoyable as it would be on a console. There's just something about having a form-fitting controller in your hands, and being able to use a pressure-sensitive analog stick for movement that just makes things incredibly easier. The game is pretty damn fun, but the frustration just makes this game not worth it at all on pc, better to go with one of the console versions.

Game selection
If you're looking for a good multiplayer game, I'd definitely go with Battlefield 1942. It's got good gameplay, and the ability to mod has really made it open up, check out moddb.com for what's being worked on for mods for it, and for other games your interested in.

Looking for a new PC Game: Need Advice
Heya everyone... Basically, I am looking for computer game, most likely something with excellent online play, to consume some of my time... any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I am not really privy to a specific game type, throw any ideas you want out there, with a synopsis, if you don't mind- Thanks a ton! |
Warcraft 3 with expansion is my favorite game. I can't go a day without playing a game online.
Also Battlefield 1942 with expansions and mods (FPS) Diablo 2 with expansion (action/RPG) all of these multiplayer games will fill many hours of your time and have you addicted fast. also, Enemy Territory is a fun team based FPS and is free to download...so you must get it. |
Can try and download America's Army if you're into FPS stuff...It's free and keeps me entertained from time to time.
|
I have to put up another suggestion for Battlefield 1942. Try the Desert Combat mod -- I haven't stopped playing it since I found it.
-Lasereth |
If you want a mmorpg, check out the thread(s) on Dark Age of Camelot.
|
you could try Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's online only and FREE.....
|
The lovely Amelia and I have a pc and she liked games like
American McGee's Alice Asylum the Douglas Adams game..... can't remember the title...... Myst Me I like Madden Yahoo fantasy baseball and have found a new cool fantasy/sim baseball game online for free at simdynasty. It's cool you play a full season and have the option to buy a team and go on. It's addictive for me I love baseball, but on the single seasons if you start out badly even with 162 game schedule you don't recover well. Of course like Yahoo depends on if you get into an active leage with trades and so forth. I also like RISK, plop in Ultimate RISK and I'm set for the next few hours. |
Quote:
|
That would be the one. Out os all those and some of her others, I felt Alice and Asylum were the best. I even enjoyed playing Alice.
Are there any online games like RISK available? |
A great title that might go under the radar of the average TFP'er is Metriod: Zero Mission, newly released for the GBA.
A lot of us grew up with the Metroid games back when console and PC styles were truly apples and oranges. Metroid basically blew the lid off the explorable, continuous world in an action game. Super Metroid was quite a worthy follow-up. The other games in the series have been adequate, but not nearly as great. Zero Mission is the original, completely re-done and with a lot more content. A must-buy for people who own GBAs. My only warning would be that if you're skilled at the Metroid-style game, it will seem both short and easy. Still a wonderful game, though. Best Metroid yet. |
I have call of duty, it's the best war game ever. My only complaint is that they didn't put any vehicles that you can use, and Unreal Tournament 2004 will be coming out soon enough and you can use vehicles in that if you like that game.
|
omfg! a game roccomendation!
i just rented I Ninja and absolutely loved it. silly game, lots of challenges, and great gameplay. if you're looking for something to rent or wanna take a chance on something new, pick it up and see what you think.
|
Planetside is the game to test your system...Everybody I have ever talked to said this game takes a stong PC to handel, is yours up to the challange?
|
Go and buy Ninja Gaiden right now!!!!
It's AWESOME!!!! (and quite hard) |
For PC right now:
FAR CRY UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004 For X-Box right now: SPLINTER CELL: PANDORA TOMORROW For PS2 right now: FORBIDDEN SIREN For GameCube right now: METAL GEAR SOLID: TWIN SNAKES |
Far Cry
Maybe Half-Life 2 |
Far Cry, just looks incredible if your PC can handle it.
Unreal Tournament 2004 contains by far the best vehicular combat of any game out there. Easy to pick up, and impossible to master because you can always do something better. (Besides, who doesn't want to drive a car that has 15 foot blades shoot out from each side to cut down opponents? :D) Oh yes, how about this for a deal: FREEDOM FIGHTERS $10 at Best Buy. Buy this game. |

I just finished Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. The PC version is solid, and multiplayer looks kinda cool.
I wouldn't pay $50 for the single player campaign alone. The production value is rather high, but the level design loses steam as the game progresses, and the game is kinda on the short side (though it's kind of on the medium side for games these days.) A gamer of decent skill should finish it in under 15 hours. I'm not sure how long it took me, but it couldn't have been any more than that. So, I give it an 85%. My main complaints are spotty level design, and relative shortness. It's strong parts are a good storyline, a good mix of action and stealth, good graphics, and solid gameplay. It really has its moments. |
I just rented and beat prince of persia the sands of time for ps2 and I would highly recommend this game to anyone. Its old, but if you havent played it, its definitely worth a look.
|
Chronicles of Riddick:Escape From Butcher Bay.
It's true: It's the best looking Xbox game out right now. |
yeah ive got a game u may like? its depends weather u like rollercoasters or not. if u do reply back to me? im hooked to it !!!!!!!!! from joanne18481.
u build your own theme park and keep your customers happy . u get lots of rollercoasters and food and any thing u get in a theme park !!!!!!!!! . im 23 and from wales. ive just started on this website too |
I just got Wario Ware Inc. for the GBA.
It is hilariously awesome and I highly recomend it. |
Up and coming, I recommend:
MMO: World of Warcraft (PC) Everquest II (PC) RTS: WarHammer 40k: Dawn of War (PC) Armies of Exigo (PC) RPG: Fable (Xbox) KOTOR II (Xbox) I've either played, tested or seen first-hand all of the above games, and they are quite impressive. EDIT: Except KOTOR II... I haven't played or beta'd it... but I mean, come on... it's GOTTA be good, right? |
If you want to get a great RPG game that is a Diablo 2 / World of Warcraft style game, get Guild Wars. It was supposed to come out in September but it got pushed back until late this year/early next year. Get it, it's going to be a great game with developers who used to work for Blizzard.
|
Still far and away my favorite game is Deus Ex. The first one. Totally brilliant. It's all about sneaking up behind some poor unsuspecting guard and clubbing him in the back of the head...
The best part of that game is that allowed you to solve all the levels in a wide variety of ways - You could be all stealth, or screw it and go all out guns blazing... or totally avoid conflict. Also, any game that lets you customize your character, growing your skills as you progress gets major points in my book. It allows for excellent replayability and adaptability to each player's distinct style. So, if you haven't played Deus Ex, get it. Enjoy. d: ) |
MGS3 all the way when it comes out, its gonna be the BOMB!!!
|
Nothing beats Halo xbox LAN action (until Halo 2, but I digress). Oooh that or playing Battlefied 1942, everyone should give the demo a try, it has the best level in the game and there are still 50+ servers for it all the time. Also, America's Army is an extremely solid FPS simulation (http://www.americasarmy.com/) and is free because it's a recruitment tool.
|
Farcry for the ragdoll physics...CS: Source(out now) and Unreal Tournament 2004 (non stop fun...crazy in a LAN)
|
Beyond Good and Evil.
On the short side, but it's cheap and a hell of alot of fun! It's very atmospheric, you feel so involved in the storyline. Plus there are loads of side bits to do and you get to keep upgrading your hovercraft with new thingys. A bit like Zelda: OoT but shorter.. and obviously nothing like it at all. |
For RPG's I really enjoyed Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, and SWKoTR.
|
Max Payne 2 shouldnt be very expensive now and was really fun to play. I recommend that game. it has different cool playing mods to it, like this "endurance" one that happens in small levels and enemies pop out and you have to survive for as long as you can. i had hours of fun with that, plus the bullet time =
gotta love bullet time while diving to the side as you pass in front of a door, firing dual Mac 10s into baddies' bodies..looks so damn cool :D |
yo
sup guys first post was on top thought i put somethin :)
|
battlefield vietnam. its like unreal but has realistic settings.
|
UT2004 hands down. Best multiplayer FPS on PC.
|
If I were you i would probably get Dark Age of Camelot, Thief: Deadly Shadows, or Doom 3. They test the system well and are extremely addicting.
|
Pro Evolution Soccer 4/Winning Eleven online is the way forward
Can be laggy but it makes a change from CS or UT |
City of Heroes has just come out in the UK. It's so much fun, you make rediculously named characters (some of mine so far: Santa X, Mantilope, Joe Bazooka, Kraftwerk Orange.. the character creating is so much fun I spend most of my time just making characters), and hit the streets solving crimes. Justice is far more rewarding than wailing on kobolds.
Any UK TFPers want to start a supergroup? |
I have to recommend Battlefield Vietnam. It is truly one of the most in-depth and all-around fun games I have ever played. The single player mode isn't much to speak of, but the multiplayer is top notch. It has tons of driveable vehicles and the maps are enormous. I whole heartedly reccomend this game for any FPS fans who are looking for a great multiplayer experience. Battlefield 2, somewhat of a sequel, is just around the corner. It comes out in June and looks to be way better than BF: Vietnam or BF: 1942.
|
Does anyone know of a game that is set in the old west, gunfighter type stuff? I'm looking for something on the PC.
|
I'm looking for new RPGs to get through Spring Break. I just ordered Torment for like 6 bucks at Amazon. I saw it mentioned here a bit.
I LOVE Morrowind, HATE first-person shooters. I like the feel of MMOs, but I hate playing with other people. :p |

the new PSP is pretty cool!
|
PC:
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War God of War (when it comes out) SW:KOTOR II Xbox: Jade Empire SW:KOTOR II PSP: Lumines Ridge Racers |
Only been playing a couple of hours but I can recommend Beyond Good and Evil. Excellent visuals and sound with what seems like a good storyline. Have heard its quite short but as long as its good....
Its at bargain prices over here in the UK so I am sure it can be picked up cheap in the US. |
Game suggestion
I'm a relatively new PC gamer...but I have to say the games that converted me from the console were:
NeverWinter Nights and CITY OF HEROES!!!! :) City of Heroes is a FANTASTIC game...online based, so it's very interactive. There is a monthly fee, but I have to admit that I don't mind paying it because it so darn FUN...instead of going to a movie once a month, I play CoH :) !!! www.cityofheroes.com Check it out :) As for the Console... I really like Balder's Gate for PS2 and for XBOX I would recommend FABLE :) As you can see I tend to be more into RPG's :) |
Quote:
A couple of hours? You're nearly done with it, then. It was an amazing game, but under eight hours on my first playthrough? Rediculous. I sat down and went through again in about 3 hours, then returned it for a full refund ;) Can I back RE4 enough? No? Okay, go buy it now! |
Knowing that hulk I might try and finish it this week. Got a PS1 and GBA SP coming my way this week. Thought I had better get a PS1 before I get a PS2. Have turned to a bit of a collector now which is bad for my bank balance.
Another recent title to recommend is Mario Party 6 - multiplayer only though. Excellent fun with some unlockables which make it worthwhile to play again and again. Please dont laugh me off the forums for recommending that. |
Would any of y'all have some recomendations for strategy/RPG for the Xbox? I've really been trying to find a Dynasty Warriors Tactics type game for it, but with little luck, confounded by the fact that I'm too cheap to buy a PS2. I'm really looking for turn based strat, almost a Civ style game.
Right now, my puny library consists of: Fable, LotR: The Third Age and KOTOR II. Hopefully that gives some insight into my taste. Thanks! ~Liz |
Jade Empire. Awesome game from Bioware. It's an RPG.
|
Already on my que with Gamefly. :-D
|
halo, by far far away in a galaxy a long long time ago
|
i'm going to go ahead an peg another vote for Ninja Gaiden. It's got old-school arcade style, smooth handling, and when you pull off all these flash moves, you just feel like the shit. Much entertaining. Also, quite difficult, and very replayable.
|
Well, I am looking for games, mostly for the PC but maybe some PS2 games as well.
I am... unable to go to stores that have games. Researching games without knowing what I am looking for with the "internet" that I have is an endevor worthy of an epic. Strategy games such as Warcraft, Age of Empires and Command and Conquer are not what I am looking for. I've got too many of those as it is. I cannot play any type of online game. Imagine my dismay when I found out I couldnt play HL2 w/o verifying it online first, after installing it. I love RPG's in the Final Fantasy format (I'm a fan of compelling stories). I am kind of burnt out on games such as Diablo II, Sacred, Morrowind, and Neverwinter Nights. Though if there is a new one that is really good, I wouldnt mind trying to look it up. Flight Simulators are good. MS Flight Sim 2004 is on its way already. I like modern air combat sims as opposed to the older non-jet aircraft. FPS's are great. Again I would rather have either completely sci-fi weapons or more modern weapons that the military would use. I am not a fan of history... Mostly what I am looking for is something that either has really good replay value, or just lasts long enough, but not get boring. I've got a year of sitting on my ass and getting paid for it and I need some entertainment. Any suggestions are appreciated. |
^^^ I'd suggest trying FarCry. It is a single player FPS with modern weapons and vehicles. Absolutely beautiful game with huge environments.
|
Totally not new but I have just started playing Sam and Max for the PC.
Went for a more light hearted game as I have not really played since Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (20 hrs+) Only been playing for about half an hour but it seems cool. Takes me back to the Threepwood days. The Day Of The Tentacle and Sam and Max double pack is out over here at a very cheap price. No idea if it has a US release? Well worth picking up |
I don't know if anybody will respond to this, but...
I'm looking for platform games. 2d side scrollers for the PC. Something like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or Super Mario Bros. I know there have got to be some really good homebrew side-scrollers out there. I don't really mean the crap people make in Klik 'n' Play and try to pass off as real games, but some actual fun games. Something I could maybe use my gamepad with and kill some time. Anybody know of any? (for pc) |

Shameless plug for Indigo Prophecy. Tons of fun, great atmosphere and good replay value so far.
|

Bit of a late response: Duke Nukem had a 2D scrolling shoot em up - possibly Manhattan Project? Have you ever tried emulating? When I was over in Orlando in November there was a Contra/Castlevania double pack in the bargain section. This featured Castlevania 1-3 and two Contra titles. |
Civilization IV
If you would like to play an addictive game try Civilization IV. It is probably the most addicting game I have played next to a football game during football season. Better graphics, better gameplay, and overall new interface is outstanding. Plus you can play it in multiplayer, although it is based on waiting for the other players to finish their turn, but it is adjustable. Try the Demo it only allows for an hour worth of gameplay, but it'll get you hooked.
|
I recently got hooked playing Dungeon siege II, and if you like RPG you might want to try World of warcraft (but that is addictive as all hell, and has no end)
|
RPG wise, I play Guild Wars occasionally. I'm not a big fan of RPGs, but GW is fun, especially guild battles and PvE (until you beat the PvE campaign).
Some of my more favorite games.. that people HAVE to try.. are: 1) Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2) 2) Burnout 3: Takedown (PS2) 3) SSX Tricky and SSX 3 (Gamecube) 4) Mario Kart: Double Dash (Gamecube) Other games I like but don't strongly care for: 1) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) 2) Zelda: The Windwaker (Gamecube) I'm pretty sure I own a few other PS2/GC games but I don't remember them anymore. |
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for PC - if you have a fast gaming PC this one is about the best modern warfare FPS experience I've had ... I'm not sure if that holds true for the console versions of this game. It's not as "Hollywood" as these shooters tend to be and is quite immersive.
HL-2 - OK. If what you want is a "Hollywood"/Sci-Fi experience this one never let me down. Not a dull moment. Guild Wars!!! - prepare to lose several months of your life because this game is addictive ... and without a subscription fee!!! I love this game! |
Excuse me? Everquest II beats the ever loving sheezy out of GW, considering your big enough of a tool to shell out $15 a month for your nerdy desires... :)
|
Hey guys, I haven't been around in a long while, thought I'd post up what I've been doing here because it very much involves gaming. How about some Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It's very free and it's probably the best online FPS. I'm in a clan now, the guys in it are really cool and we'd love having y'all on our servers, we have a 2.55 XP save server, and two 2.60 ETPro servers, one of which is set up for 3v3 TWL. Our website is http://www.evilrtcw2.com/forums . The other game I've been playing is OGame, which is a free MMO browser-based strategy game. Sign up at http://www.ogame.org/ . I'm in universe 22 at 3:131:6 and in universe 13 at 2:22:9, named EvilNumber1Dad
|
Definitely get FEAR, that game is visually stunning.
|
I only have a Gamecube and Xbox right now, though I figure I'll have a Wii and 360 fairly soon as well as being open to older games if I can find a rom...and I've been through every generation of gaming from the end of the Atari onward, so I'll try to help out with some favorites of mine over the times (in no order) and see what kind of help I can give:
The Mario series (SM64 being my favorite), Perfect Dark, every Mega Man game on the NES (MM4's my fave), the Metal Gear series from MGS1 on (including the VR Missions game) though I dislike Splinter Cell, Mario Power Tennis, Final Fantasy 7 (though FF3/6 is the only other FF I can bring myself to play more than afew hours into it), Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Comix Zone, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (though I dislike GTA3 and have yet to really try Vice City), the Legend of Zelda series (LoZ:WW's my fave), and -- recently -- the Prince of Persia series That's as much help as I know how to give right now. |
All are great games suggested, I would suggest World of Warcraft. Lots of fun!
|
it for enjoy fear you'll love bioshock. no multiplayer but its very badass. the atmosphere of the game is just great
|
Bioshock has my vouch, I loved it, but lost time to play it and beat it on hard.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R is another good game, but it's a tatical FPS but still fun. That new jericho game looks good too, I'm gona play it soon, and tell how much I did/didn't enjoy it. |
I am looking for another MMORPG.
I have only played WoW - so I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything like that. The graphics interest me more than anything. Anyone tried Rappelz? |
This is the best time for PC gaming for ages. So many good ones, and plenty more on the horizon
For the moment though. Get the Orange Box Half Life 2, the the two expansion packs, Team Fortress 2 ( an on-line multi player shooter with classes) and the greatest game of the year so far...Portal. A first person puzzle game with some wicked dark humour and truly inventive game play 5 of the best games ever for the price of one. Bargain of the century |
For the holidaze I got an xbox360. I've been playing 2 games exclusively: Dirt, and Forza Motorsport 2. Super cool games. The graphics and driving physics are life-like. I feel like Marcus Gronholm!
|
well, I gotta say Crysis is a must buy  provided you can run it of course, bloody brilliant single player
|
Get Sins of a Solar Empire, its a crazy good space combat fighter. You could think of it like a Age of Empires on a space level. You can zoom into to planet views and see ships orbiting a planet or zoom out to intergalactic level.
|
I loved it
Quote:

Hey guys, I've got a PS3
Is Killzone 2 worth my time, or not? Thanks! |
Hey I am hoping I can gain some expert advice on the topic of building a new gaming PC. This is pretty foreign territory for me and I'm just wondering what type of budget someone would need to be able to buy a computer capabale of running games such as the new COD, GTA, and the new Starcraft (whenever it does eventually come out). Aside from a monitor and a keyboard I'd need to buy everything else. Anyways, I figured this would be a good place to begin my search for a PC. Any sort of web resources or advice y'all can offer is much appreciated!

Looks like this thread hasn't been bumped in a while but figured I'd give it a shot anyway.
I am not quite as avid a gamer as I used to be, however I still enjoy buying a game once in a while, playing the hell out of it for a couple weeks and completely dropping it. So I'm trying to decide which game I should get next. I'm thinking... the new GTA (gay tony) or Bad Company 2. I love the GTA series, and I love multiplayer FPS's, so I know I'll like both, but I only want to buy one. What do you guys think? |
