Texas Hold Em' Poker
Hey guys hows it going? I was just curious if anyone enjoyed playing poker, specifically the Texas Hold Em' variety, that is often times shown on ESPN and the Travel Channel. In the past couple of months, it has became increasingly popular around my area.
Me and the guys from work have been getting together two nights a week to play some friendly games at each others house, and we are having a ball. I used to get bored easily with other games of poker, however with Hold Em' it moves much faster paced and the action if more furious, this really is a game enjoy playing. So anyone else play? Anyone have any strategies or favorite starting cards? |

Occasionally play it. Just with friends and family. They're not very into it though. I love the tv show (there's actually another thread here on TFP about the tv shows) and would like to enter a tournament if there was a relative cheap one around.
As far as favorite hand to start with, I'd have to say aces.

i love poker, especially hold 'em at the casino. i have my strategies/styles for playing, and depending on the game, i either play really well, or like a real ass. i'm the person you hate to play with because i'm willing to lose a little money to make you scared to risk yours. you won't know what i'm doing. and it's fun playing like an ass.

I love playing Hold 'Em.
When I'm with friends, I'll generally play at least to the flop if I have suited cards, a pair of faces, or a 9-K, 10-A straight draw. When at a casino, I'll play nothing but face pairs, straight-flush draws starting higher than 7, or a 9-K/10-A split. I play very few hands at a casino, but as of yet, I've only walked out in the red once.

Indeed Rounders is a great movie, I'm glad some of you play, anyone ever play online or know any good websites?
Personally i hate sitting to the left of loose players, who are always raising a lot pre flop. I mean i am able to work around it, it just makes me uncomfortable sometimes. I guess thats why my game seems to be stuck at a plateu, I am too afraid sometimes to make the gutsy calls. |

I've just started to learn to play this style. Someone from work invited me to play, $20.00 to get in, and I lost it all, but it was fun. I've tried to learn through empirepoker.com, but my connection is too slow. They let you play for free, or for money there.

Its my favorite game in the world! I play with my friends all the time and on line a bit too. I praise the folks at the Travel Channel for bringing the WPT to mainstream America and the fame it currently enjoys. I think its great that I now have people to play with and they actually are excited about doing it.
My favorite opening hand? I'm all for the Ace, King or King, Queen suited... but I do like having a pair of K's just because when I show'em I get to declare that I had pocket cowboys. Strategy? There's so many of them, but what gives me the biggest rush is when I get to Check/Raise someone. Its just awesome when you know you have the game, but you check to get more money and they fall for it because then when you raise they tend to feel so silly about being trapped that they will often raise again to try and scare you out of it.

i've played online with paradise poker, poker stars, true poker, and another one i can't remember the name of. but i've only played their free versions, i've yet to play with actual money there... i'm gonna do it soon, i think. from what i understand, the three i listed by name are all rather reputable, so you should be able to trust them. i think i'm gonna go with poker stars because, seeing as how chris moneymaker used them and it's well known, i'm guessign that i wouldn't have to worry about them being shifty. i guess for me that's almost as good as personally knowing someone who plays for cash online. as it is, i'm going to be playing in a $10 buy in tourney tonight at a local bar. no-limit holdem. wish me luck! |

Just played at a buddies place on Saturday. Made it to the final four. The all wanted to go to the bar so we split the pot. $125 for me!! I watch it on the travel channel any chance I can. I have it on my palm pilot so I can practice, and I will play over at yahoo once in a while. I think it's a great game.

I play on partypoker.com. There are always tons of people there but its odd because it seems like anyone I meet in RL never plays there. If anyone ever decides to play there let me know cuz you get bonuses for referring people and for being referred.
