Thanks for posting that, I've been wondering what the hype was all about. I wish there was a better quality release somewhere, one that wasn't videotaped from a projection. I'll take it though. Sephiroth looks even more feminine than he did in the game.
Is it still up in the air as to how they are going to release this? I've heard short movie, or interactive demo, or even full video game. I wonder if they've officially released the details at all.

This isn't a video game at all. It will be a straight-to-DVD movie. How long though I do not know.

I thought that "Final Fantasy" the movie was amazing. Even if it didn't have a better-developed-than-80%-of-"real"-movies-these-days plot, it still was technically impressive, and a milestone for digital effects.

I remember as a kid wanting them to make a movie out of final fantasy 2 (us). Well, years later they did make a FF movie, and that was the day my soul was crushed out of existance.
This better not suck Square, because this whole not being a video game was already a kick in the balls, you insist on continuing to do it as well (gimme my money back for FFXI). I'll burn your building down, you foreign bastards.

Personally I can't see how anyone can say that any of the past few FF games have sucked, all of them have been milestones and should be considered as standalone games with their own merits and faults. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who hates Turn Based combat with a passion and has never finished an FF game he's started.
The FF movie was not in essence an FF movie but it was quite impressive technologically. I found it to be too depressing and unmagical for me to go back to and enjoy, however I did buy the DVD. |

Final Fantasy rules, but i agree that making Final Fantasy VII Advent Children into a movie and not a game was a kick in the crotch, i had been waiting for the game since i beat FFVII. However, after watching this trailer, i need a towel, because just like WhoaitsZ, i had an accident. It looks amazing.

FFXI, case in point. 60 dollars, 12 dollars a month, understandable for a mmorpg (a very bad mmorpg), but they take it one further and say you get one character, but have to pay an extra dollar a month for another one. Dumb, that's on par with Sony in terms of money whoring, except their game was somewhat entertaining. FFX-2, what the hell? I refuse to speak of it, I will focus rather on sending Square nasty letters. In short, I hope they all die except Nobuo Uematsu.

Heh, Phaenx, you have every right to be upset and hold your opinion of course.
I completely agree that FFXI is stupid - as far as costs and as far as concept - but I loved FFX (even moreso than FFVII which I was surprised at), I am currently loving FFX-2 (although it IS a bit different and I fully understand why some people would think it's terrible), and I know many people who feel the same way as me and who have also really enjoyed FFVIII and FFIX (I can't have an opinion on those since I haven't had a chance to play them yet). Anyways, let's not turn this thread into a 'does Square presently suck or not' thread - that deserves its own thread because THIS thread is about FFVII Advent Children.

I've never played a Final Fantasy worth ridicule. FF8 had plot issues, but it was still one fantastic game compared to the other games on PS1. Just because the later FF's don't have Cloud, Barret, Red XIII, and the rest of the gang doesn't mean they're bad games. I try to treat them as seperate games since they have nothing to do with each other. FFX-2 is getting great reviews from the only two sources I trust, so I imagine it's a worthy successor to FFX. I haven't played FFXI yet, but most of the reasons you're giving for it sucking is the money, not the gameplay. It may be a bit expensive, but that doesn't mean it's a horrible game. I'm not some new-gen Final Fantasy lover that has never played the old games, either. I've played FF 2 and 3 US, and I have to say that I enjoyed the newer ones much more. Now, onto Advent Children: a thread was posted about this a while ago that got like 1,000,000 replies. I posted a link to the trailer I uploaded. I admit that the movie looks really neat, but I just don't think making this a movie is a good idea. At all. Square has already said why they aren't making a sequel-game from FFVII. It would cost way too much money, take way too many resources, and have much too big of a fan-base to please to get anywhere with it. Can you imagine what a sequel would be like? Any changes in the game at all and many FFVII players would be furious. If Square didn't keep the same gameplay, same characters, same everything then the company would be ridiculed. I say it's a good move to not make a game sequel. This way the Wrath of FFVII Fanboy doesn't come down upon them. Even after saying that I don't want a game-sequel, it doesn't mean I want a movie sequel. I think SquareEnix should leave a game that has a place in our memories alone. Fucking it up would not a be a good move on their part, and making a 40 hour long game that made RPGs cool in the US have an hour long DVD CG sequel has too many areas for screw-ups. -Lasereth

oh God.
I don't have time to watch the high quality ones (they download slow as SHIT), but man... just hearing the music at the beginning gave me a chill. If this movie isn't good, I think I might just go die. And all the Final Fantasy games have been good. I haven't played FF-XI yet, but at some point I would like to. They are separate entities, and comparing one to another is kind of like comparing... oh, let's say, The Big Lebowski to O Brother, Where Art Thou? They may be by the same guys, but they're not the same thing at all. The final fantasy games have basically set the standard for console RPGs, and that's for a good reason, so you might as well get used to it. |

Well, now im confused . So they are just using the characters from FF:VII, in a movie that has nothing to do with anything that happened in FF:VII? But all these characters have backgrounds and storys. Will all that get explained in the movie as well . ohh my .

You can find the entire script for FF7 http://www.kuponut.com/games/ff7/game_script.html]here[/URL]
There are other places, just search it on google. Not to mention some places out there also have scripts for games like Xenogears and Chrono Trigger. |

"I'm pissed at them is what. They keep releasing the dumbest most boring games after FF7. Their goals have gone from producing good quality products to pushing out as much shit as they can, because they know millions of fans they hooked on their good products will buy it because it's final fantasy."
i sort of agree... i mean, instead of just continually releasing a money whoring title like FF, they need to take time (like maybe 5 years, it would he worth it) to release a new ff. remember those old FF7 tv commercials? Holy crap those ruled. |

Watched both of the high quality trailers. It gives a release date of summer 04' on the Japanese one..but there is no release date on the English trailer.(I can only hope it's the same for both )
Wether the movie sucks or not,I could care less. It's nice seeing Cloud and Sephiroth back in action. Can't argue with those graphics either Just a waiting game now -__- |

I didn't think that was Sephiroth in the trailer "back in action." I haven't really read up on it, but I'm pretty sure it's not him. The person in a wheelchair might be him, but that's it. Cloud, on the other hand, (while One Winged Angel blairs in the background badassedly), seems to be doing fine

Well..
I never got to watch the FF movie because everyone jsut scared me away from it...still wanna watch it though one day.
IMHO, I think that FFXI is truly innotiative and actually one of the few to actually pay homage to the original ideas of FFI, basically the idea that people starting up from nothing...know nothing of their destiny and can go on to achieve great things. I guess what gets to most people is the fact of having to pay for it...and what I say is that given the quality of game you are getting...what you are paying is actually cheap. |

For the record, I loved FFVII. Viii was good, and i lost touch untill X witch was also good...I am currently a lvl 19 blm/lvl 15 whm and I also have a lvl 15 war in FFXI. I can't get enought of this game! I am WASTING time that I could be spending either lvling or smithing right now reading various people bash on this awesome game! While, in order to follow the story line, it takes more work to move througth this game than any other FF game I have every played, I believe it is well worth it. I can't seem to find enougth time to spend on this game because there is always something to do. Not to mention the people that i have meet and continue to meet are awesome. This game, while it does have some problems, is one of the funnest games I have played. And the fact that I can keep coming back to it and have something new to try, makes the game worth the sticker price (I payed nothing, as i beta tested the PS2 version)! $12 a month is a small price to pay for a game that is so well maintained and played!
and that is my HUGE opinion |

Regarding FFXI (and I don't like to stray too much off topic so I'll keep this short) I have no doubt that it's a great, fun game. And I would certainly be willing to pay a little extra for it since it has such phenomenal replay value as is inherent in it's nature. However, I simply have something against "subscribing" to a game - it goes against my better judgement. $12 a month may be cheap, but that's $144 a year! If I play it for just 2 years, that's $288! Sorry, but however fun it is, I'd rather buy 8-10 games and enjoy them than pay that price for just one. Nothing against the game, just the money.
