Mafia mod???

I seem to remember awhile back that some user was working on some sort of mod for Mafia that I remember sounding pretty cool. However, I don't remember who this user was and what the mod was about, and a search on TFP didn't turn anything up.

So, user, are you still here, and if so how is the mod going? I'm really curious

That was me Meth! It was the 70's Mod, unfortunately it kinda fell through after heaps of people starting joining trying incorporated Dragon-fucking-ball-Z into the mod for some godforsaken reason. I just got an e-mail from one of the original members asking me rejoin and restore order, reluctantly I've chosen to do so. I won't be skinning anymore but I'll still be plot/mission writing and helping out here and there with the script (both programatically and linguistically).

Here is the plot to the game in it's simplest terms, perhaps it's more of a prologue.

Keep in mind that I wrote this a looooong time ago without any revision:
Quote:
Johnny Angelo was the best hitman any Mafioso could ever have, loyal, never out of line and more importantly non-questioning. With his efforts the Mafioso he worked for were able to rise to the seat of power and dominate the city of Lost Heaven. This Mafioso’s Don loved him so much he treated him like a son, much to the dismay of the Don’s real son as he was treated as second best.

Johnny lived fairly recluse; he vowed never to settle down with a family because of the Angelo Curse. His father and his father’s father all suffered the cruel fate of death for mixing business and pleasure; a fate Johnny was keen on escaping.

He was content with his life despite knowing he could never love someone, he accepted this and got on with things. Until one night his life got tipped right upside down. As he slept in his luxury penthouse apartment the Lost Haven Police Department knocked on his door with an arrest warrant. Making a hasty escape through the window he ran rooftop to rooftop attempting to evade the police as they kept in tight pursuit.

Except for one man, Frank Revell, the police could not keep up with Johnny. Johnny and Frank kept on running until it was not an option anymore and a showdown ensued. The result was Frank shooting down an outdoor TV aerial that injured, trapped and knocked out Johnny.

Johnny spent a week in hospital recovering from his wounds and was promptly sent the police station for interrogation. In the booth Frank recounted a murder case that was apparently the reason why they had arrested Johnny…

Frank was coming home one evening after a slow day at work to find that the front door to his house had been kicked in and all the lights were out in the house. Drawing his gun Frank entered his house began searching in fear for his family. Hearing a creek upstairs he followed it cautiously to see the bathroom light turn on. Inside were his family, his wife and two infantile children bound and gag taped on their knees with a masked man in a white suit and purple shirt holding a rifle over their heads. The masked man and Frank’s eyes caught each other momentarily. As Frank ran to try to save his family the masked man shot Frank in the shoulder, which knocked him out. The man slammed the bathroom door shut and locked it from the inside. The masked man then fired three shots. Recovering quickly from his gunshot wound Frank broke the bathroom door down to find his family executed, a shot to each of their heads and the bathroom window clean open, with the masked man long gone.

Frank went on to say that through a series of tip-offs from an anonymous source they were able to conclude whom the murderer was. The evidence was against Johnny, though he pleaded his innocence to the crime, the murder weapon was found in a nearby bush covered in Johnny’s fingerprints and the suit the murderer was wearing matched a suit in Johnny’s wardrobe.

The news of Johnny’s capture was becoming well known around town, no sooner than hearing about the capture did Johnny’s best friend Jackie Smitts devise a plan to bust him free. By paying off a crooked cop Smitts was able to find out where exactly Johnny was being detained and with this information he stole a Mac truck and drove it through the wall of Johnny’s cell setting him free.

Knowing that his face was familiar and criminal in the city he decided to leave and hide out in Mexico until he saw the time right to return.

Three years later Frank’s reputation as a leading member of the force had fallen, his suspected abuse of a anti-depressant hallucinogenic drug and constant nightmares of watching his family die haunt him day and night. Without a resolve to the situation as Johnny’s whereabouts was unknown he had lost all meaning in life. At the same time Johnny got a call in Mexico from Smitts saying that he knew who set him up and to meet him in Lost Heaven. Johnny saw this the perfect opportunity to come back to town. All he worked for in life was taken away from, he wanted it back and no one would get in his way. His return was private though somehow Frank was tipped off that Johnny was back in town.

And so here our story begins…
Both men have vengeance on their minds, Frank to kill Johnny for killing his family and Johnny to kill those who set him up for ruining his life. Neither man will stop at anything to see retribution for the crimes against them even if it means they have to tear the whole city down.
Quite strange that you should mention this at this point in time, especially seeing as how I recently rejoined the Mod-Team, quite a co-incidence!

At this stage I believe we're able to fuly write cutscenes and scripts, mess with the physics of the game and have built nearly 100 70's era vehicles (think Mustang). We'll be releasing a demo soon too, I'll keep you posted .

Mafia was awesome, they need to make a sequel, or remake it with modern bells-and-whistles, even though the game still looks damn good.

Why modern bells and whistles? If you want a modern story, go get Vice City or San Andreas. One of the most refreshing things about Mafia was its sense of time and place. I found it one of the most immersive games I've ever played. It could stand to have more of a freeform element, I suppose, but the story was so good, you really felt like a hood. And who didn't enjoy unloading a tommy gun into some fool? My favourite mission was probably the airport shootout, where you storm the place and clear it of hoods, ducking into cover and rolling out blasting. Wearing a fedora.

Aww yeah.

Modern bells and whistles does not mean modern story, it means updated graphics, sound, and physics.
